MR. eugene “gene” conley

 

Mr. Eugene “Gene” Conley, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, November, 14, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Conley was born in Bartow County, Georgia on Friday, October 11, 1912, a son of the late Josiah Eugene Conley and Nancy Adeline Spurlin Conley.  He was a member and deacon of Zebulon Baptist Church, and had lived in Blairsville for most of his life.  Mr. Conley worked for many years in the Blairsville area as a carpenter.  He had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.  A son, Josiah Eugene Conley, III, passed away in 1998.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline Watkins Conley, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Doris and Johnnie Kelly, of Powder Springs, GA, and Elaine and Jerry Stover, of Oakwood, GA; daughter-in-law, Ina Lou Conley, of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Edna Long, of Wallins Creek, KY; 5 grandchildren also survive, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 16, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Reverend Randy Hughes and Reverend James Rice officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  Interment was in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers-Leonard Sosebee, Junior Bridges, David Chatham, Jerry Stover, Barry Stover, John Young, and Rusty McGiboney.

MRS. ruby nell mitchell dyer

 

Mrs. Ruby Nell Mitchell Dyer, age 69, of Fain Branch Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday morning November 21, 2000 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Dyer was born on April 11, 1931 in Union County, the daughter of Etta Lee Young and the late Grady England.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Dyer in 1995.

Surviving Mrs. Dyer are one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dwight Young of Young Harris; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Larry and patty Dyer, Rick and Sue Dyer, and jerry and Lynn Dyer, all of Blairsville; mother, Etta Lee Harris of Cleveland; two sisters, Mildred Grizzle of Gainesville and Opal Rush of Blairsville; one brother, Charles Mitchell of Cleveland; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at 11 am from the New Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny beaver, Rev. Willis Garrett, Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by Craig Summers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Eugene Pope, James Postell, Bo Conley, Eddie Alexander, Darren Rowan, and Zack Beaver.  Interment followed in the Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery.

MRS. pauline clara young mccarter

 

Mrs. Pauline Young McCarter, age 78, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. McCarter was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday, September 3, 1922 a daughter of the late Zeke Young and Birdie Ingram Young.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a homemaker.  Mrs. McCarter was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Paulette, in 1951, and her husband, Howard McCarter in 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Dora Colwell and Paula Davenport; three sons, W.H. McCarter, Jim McCarter, and John McCarter, all of Blairsville; a sister, Loujine Shuler of Walden, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 24, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. George Cline and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Bill McCarter, Jeff McCarter, Jimmy McCarter, Jay McCarter, Joe Colwell, Jason McCarter, and Daniel Davenport.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

rev. harold w. jensen

 

Rev. Harold W. Jensen, age 97, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 18, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Rev. Jensen was born in Maistee, Michigan, on Tuesday, December 20, 1902, a son of the late Soren Jensen and Hansene Neilsen Jensen.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during World War II.  Rev. Jensen was a Methodist minister, who retired in 1968 from Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church.  He lived in Andrews, North Carolina and in 1979 moved to Blairsville.

Survivors include his wife, Helen C. Jensen, of Blairsville; and daughter and son-in-law, Elsa Jensen Davis and Rev. Paul B. Davis, Jr.; Angela (Colby) Simmons, and Amy (Robert) Lester; great grandchildren, Andrea Davis, Alex Simmons, Anna Lester and Shane Simmons; a niece and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 20, 2000 at 2 pm from First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev. Charles Black and Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Peachtree, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Union County.

MR. claude max everett

 

Mr. Claude Max Everett, age 67, of Buford, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 24, 2000 in Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Mr. Everett was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, April 3, 1933, a son of the late Fulmer Everett and Bonnie Queen Everett.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Everett was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Deyton Everett of the home; three sons, Rickey Everett of Carnesville, Georgia, Frank Everett of Buford, Georgia, Claude, Jr. of Carnesville, Georgia; daughter, Claudia E. Pruitt of Buford; a sister, Ethel Wimpey of Blairsville; and two brothers Cecil Everett of Ft. Payne, Alabama, and Charles Everett of Blairsville; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 27, 2000 at 1 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Wade Plott officiating.  Special music was presented by The Trackrock Trio Singers.  The following friends served as pallbearers: Dean Wimpey, bobby Lance, Danny Everett, Knox Everett, Ronnie Gray, and Sharon Stanley.  Interment was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors presented by North Georgia honor Guard.
