Carol
Wilson Nix,
age 69 of Blairsville, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at her
home. Mrs. Nix was born March 28, 1942 in
Blairsville, GA to the late Lincoln Wilson and the late Mary Reece
Wilson. She was a member of Coosa United
Methodist Church
in Blairsville and had been a local businesswoman for many years owning
and
operating Carol's Resthaven Florist in Blairsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray
Nix, brother, Mickey Wilson, sister, Esto McElroy, brother, James
Wilson and
brother, Bill Wilson.
She will
be fondly
remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family:

and son-in-law, Sara and Danny Smith, son and daughter-in-law, Raymond
and
Nikki Nix, son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Kim Nix, all of

Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Jim Aiken, Rev. Katie Strals and
Rev. Jan
Deveraux officiating. Special Music was
provided by James Stephens, Michelle Hughes, Marcia Barrett & The
Coosa
Sisters. The following gentlemen were
selected to serve as pallbearers: Frank McElroy, Johnny McElroy, Jackie
Jones,
Stuart Jones, Jimmy Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Michael Wilson, Mark Wilson,
Roger
Wilson, Tim Hunter, Devin Chapman, Josh Jones, James Brindle and
Anthony
Wilson. Interment followed in Union
Memory Gardens. The family will received

Mr. Adam
Paul
Carter, age 82 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, November 26,
2011 at
Hertitage (sic) Healthcare of Blue Ridge, GA.
Mr. Carter was born on September 8, 1929 in Newark, NJ, to the
late Adam
& Wanda Haybert Carter. He was a
United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Adam
was a proud graduate of Florida
International University and then completed a Masters degree program at
Nova
University in Public Administration. Adam
retired as a Lieutenant from Dade County Police Department in Florida
where he
had also served as a Sergeant in Miami Police Department.
He was an active member in the Police Benevolent
Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. Adam
was preceded in death by his father, Adam
Valentine Carter; mother, Wanda Ghelfi Carter and brother, Robert
Carter.
Mr.
Carter will be
fondly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his
family: loving
wife of 42 years, Mikele Stander Carter of Blairsville; beloved
daughters,
Wanda Price of Davenport, FL and Cindy Collins of Marietta, GA;
step-son, Peter
Aydelotte of Melbourne Shores, FL; sister & brother-in-law, Bernice
&
Edward Derrer of Hoschton, GA; grandchildren, Jason Aydelotte, Erin
Garrett,
Alexandra Aydelotte, Jillian Aydelotte, Wilson Collins, Ashley Collins
and Adam
Price and 4 great- Grandchildren.

plans to scatter the cremated remains at the Grand Teton National Park

Mr. Don
McClure, age 78 of McDonough, GA
passed away November 17, 2011. Don was
born in Blairsville, GA to the late Virgil C. and Iowa Elliott McClure.
Her
served his country in the United States Army and retired from Bolden
Die Supply
Company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting,
gardening flowers and vegetables and was a known jokester.
Survivors include his wife of 46
years, Shirley Patterson McClure; daughter, Sandy (Mark) Montgomery;
granddaughter, Jessica Montgomery all of McDonough; numerous nieces and
nephews. Memorial services were
conducted Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2 PM from the Chapel of
Haisten
Funeral Home. Pastor Joe Durham
officiated. Friends visited the family
one hour prior to the service.

Jane
Berry Thompson,
age 73, of Blairsville, GA, passed away in the early morning hours of
Monday,
November 21, 2011 in Altus House Hospice in Atlanta, GA.
Jane
Berry Thompson
was born in Ducktown, TN, in 1938, to the late Cautus Berry and the
late Lorena
Crawford. Most of her school years were
spent in Blairsville, where she played basketball and in 1957 was named
Miss
Union County. She then attended the
University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega
sorority. Married in 1959, she spent
several years in
Virginia, before moving back to Georgia. Jane
was involved in numerous local
organizations, including Friends of the Library and Relay For Life. She was a recent member of the City Council
and had a special interest in the Union County Historical Society and
the
Historic Courthouse, where she worked for numerous years. She received the Union County Historical
Society's 2009 Preservationist of the Year award.
Jane was
a loving
mother, sister, co-worker, and friend who will be missed by many. She had a special love for her grandchildren
and her great-grandson. She is survived
by her two daughters, Tish Harner (Charlie) of Alpharetta, GA, and
Laurie
Higgins (Doug) of Lawrenceville, GA; five grandchildren: Katie Jane,
Jill,
Suzanne, Billy, and Melanie; plus one great grandchild, Michael. She is also survived by her two brothers,
George Berry and Jerry Penland. Jane
considered all her friends and co-workers as part of her extended
family. She will be missed by all.
Funeral
services for
Jane were held on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Dr. John Kay officiating. Special music was presented by Jeff Bauman,
and granddaughter Suzannah Harner, on the violin. Serving
as pallbearers were Jillian Harner,
Suzannah Harner, Melanie Harner, Katherine Soto, and William Tomcho. Serving as honorary escort to the family were
Will Penland, Amy Damera, Jack Berry, Crawford Berry, Ollie Hudgins,
Harry
Hudgins, and Ginny Hudgins. Burial was
in Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation
at the funeral home was held on
Friday, November 25, 2011, with the family especially meeting with
friends
between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.

Hazel
Griffeth Massey, age 99, passed away
November 21st in Blairsville, GA where she had been living for the past
thirteen years.
Hazel was born to William and Icie
Griffeth on May 4, 1912 in Madison County, GA.
She married Seaborn Otha Massey, Jr. in 1936 and had one son,
Rolyn
Stanley Massey in 1937.
She lived in the Madison
County/Athens area most of her life and moved to Atlanta to live with
her son
and daughter-in-law, Barry Gober Massey when she retired in 1970.
Hazel is survived by her son, Rolyn,
his wife, Barry, two grandchildren, Susan Massey Patrick and Jeremy
Massey, one
great-grandchild, Rachel Justis, and three step-grandchildren, Justin,
Amber,
and April Patrick.
Hazel was buried in a graveside
service at Gordon’s chapel church in the Sandford Community, Madison
County,
GA.

Bentley
William Bowman, of Blairsville, the infant son of Brittne Josack passed
away on
Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Blairsville.
Bentley
was
cherished and deeply loved, and will be missed by his family: mother
Brittne;
grandfather, Derek Josack; uncle Derek Josack, Jr.; great-grandparents:
Elizabeth and Albert Sims. Bentley's

Mr. Otis
Garfield
McCollum, age 77, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, November 18,
2011.
Mr.
McCollum was born
in Blairsville on April 6, 1934, a son of the late Norman and the late
Bonnie
McCollum. A lifelong resident of
Blairsville, he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr.
McCollum had served his country in the
U.S. Army. Besides his parents, he had
been preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Lee Weaver, and Anna Lou
Akins.
Mr.
McCollum is
survived by his sisters and brothers, and their families: Clint
McCollum, Jimmy
McCollum, Charlene Hamby, Cathy Newton, and Billy McCollum, all of
Blairsville.
Funeral
services were
held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville. Military
Honors were presented by North Georgia Honor Guard. Visitation
with the family was held at the
funeral home on the day of the funeral, starting at 12 noon. Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs.
Vivian Jones, age 66, of Jones RD, Blairsville, passed away Wednesday,
November
23, 2011 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Vivian was born January 15, 1945 in Clayton,
GA, daughter of the late Grady and Hazel McGaha McNabb. She
served as Pastor’s Wife of Fairview over
27 years. Vivian was also preceded in
death by a sister, Libby Duke. She was a
member of Zebulon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Rev. Tommy Jones of
Blairsville, daughters, Tammy and Randy Hughes of Blairsville and
Terrie Sparks
of Blairsville, granddaughters, Jessica and David Johnson of
Blairsville and
Chelsea Sparks of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends.

Mr.
Glynn Eldred Kite, age 85, of Honeysuckle Drive, Blairsville, passed
away,
Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Union General Hospital. Mr.
Kite was born February 21, 1926, in
College Park, GA, son of the late Robert Carl and Rosa Cannaday Kite. He moved to this area in 1987 from Stone
Mountain, GA. He was a WWII US Navy
Veteran. Mr. Kite worked for Kraft Foods for over 35 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather
and great grandfather. He was preceded
in death by brothers, Roy and Carlton Kite, and daughter, Linda Rene
Moe. Mr. Kite was a member of Coosa United
Methodist Church and was a member of the Church Choir.
Survivors
include his loving wife of 64 years, Louise Kite of Blairsville,
children,
Sharon and Eugene Witt of Emory, TX, and Julie and Ken Allman of
Dawsonville,
GA, brother, W.L. Kite of McDonough, GA, grandchildren, Chris and Holly
Witt,
David and Amy Witt and Tiffany Dozier, great grandchildren, Kyndall
Witt, Cason
Witt, Avery Witt and Bryson Witt.

services were held at 12:00 noon, Monday, November 28, 2011 at Coosa

Clyde Kenade Buchanan, age 88, of Commerce, formerly of Blairsville,
passed
away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Athens Regional Hospital following

May 30, 1923 in Blue Ridge, GA son of the late Erastus and Dessie Mae
Bryant
Buchanan. He liked to work on cars,
loved western movies and cowboy music. He
was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Clyde was preced (sic) in death by his wife
Eula Lee Buchanan, daughter, Gail Lane and son, Tommy Buchanan. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include children, Inez and Alan Green of Commerce, Jimmy and

Buchanan of Blairsville, Johnny and Ina Lee Buchanan of Ball Ground,
sister,
Irene and Bill Henson of McCaysville, 9 grandchildren and several great
grandchildren.

Mildred
Bradley, born February 11, 1918, Baptist Faith, resident of Union
County
Nursing Home for the last 5 years, where she received the most loving
and precious
care possible. She lived happy and
secure under that care to the very end. Hospice
was wonderful in easing her and the family through her final days.
Survived
by her loving family: son, George Wayne Johnson and wife, Charlotte of
Charlotte, NC and daughter, Pricilla Greve and husband David, of
Blairsville,
GA, two grandsons, Ephrem Brisard and wife, Beth of Clearwater, FL, and
Nathan
Greve, and wife, Melissa of Naples, FL, great grandchildren, Keegan
Brisard,
Kody Greve, Kaylin Brown and Kerstin Brown, also close to heart, two
special
nieces, Faye Ragsdale of Clearwater, FL and Bobbie Miller of Petal, MS.
Born
in
the mountains of Big Stone Gap, VA, to a farming family, Mildred left
at an
early age for Florida in search of her career. An
independent woman for her generation, she
built a successful reweaving business in Tampa, Florida, and continued
to
reweave for close to 60 some years. She
was well k (sic) known in the Tampa Bay area as the best in her trade. Her greatest joy was time spent tailoring and
sewing beautiful clothing.
Though
most of her life was spent in Florida, her love for the mountains never
waived,
and she was happy to be back in her beloved mountains for the later
years of
her life. As she loved to say “she w as
back with her people in her beautiful mountains”. (sic)
She
will
be dearly missed by her loving family.
Memorial
services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Mountain
View
Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. In
lieu of flowers make memorial donations to
Union County Nursing Home Bird Seed Fund.
