helen viola wroblewski

Mrs. Helen Viola Wroblewski (nee Szczecinski), age 92, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville, Georgia.

Mrs. Wroblewski was born April 23, 1918, in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of the late Sebastian Szczecinski and Eva Czeladka Szczecinski.  She was always considered a “good luck” baby to her parents, as her father, who was entering the US Army in WWI, was given leave with the birth of his first child.  WWI was winding down before the leave was concluded and Sebastian Szczecinski did not have to go to war.  Helen was preceded in death by her husband, D. [David] Stefan Wroblewski, and younger siblings, Katherine (Kay) Szczecinski Katowich, Stella Szczecinski Lobay, and Stanley (Stas) Szczecinski.

Schooled in the secretarial arts, and having proficiency for typing and stenography, Mrs. Wroblewski worked for various companies, and was a legal secretary/stenographer for many prominent legal firms in New York City.  Before and after her retirement, Helen continued many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, collecting music recordings (especially polka music!), reading mystery novels and watching her much-loved New York Mets and Atlanta Braves.  She was active in her community wherever she lived, but her greatest joy later in life was being involved with her grandsons’ school band programs, being a “band grandma’ known as “Miss Helen” who always was there to lend a hand or fundraise selling her baked goods or crocheted doilies.

Surviving Mrs. Wroblewski are her daughter and son-law, (sic), Stephanie Wroblewski Isaacs and Harvey Isaacs of Young Harris, GA; sister, Agnes Szczecinski of formerly Staten Island, NY, now Paramus, NJ; two grandsons, Daniel Isaacs of Young Harris, GA and Jason Isaacs of Atlanta, GA; many nieces, nephews (grand and great also); and also many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services and internment will be in New York, where Helen will rejoin her beloved Stefan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials/donations may be made out to the Towns County Band, c/o Isaacs, PO Box 982, Young Harris, GA.  All donations will be used to benefit the Towns County Band students for instruments, uniforms and other needs.  Supporting band was one of Helen’s joys.  Thank you from our family and Miss Helen.

Mountain View Funeral Home will handle the transport arrangements from  Blairsville.  You may sign the family guest book and send condolences online at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com
