Mr.
Billy Carver, Jr., age 54, of Banner Elk, NC, formerly of Blairsville,
GA.
Passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998 in Sloop Hospital in Crosnore, NC.
Mr. Carver
was born in Union County, GA. On Monday, June 12,
1944, a son
of Maggie Roberts Carver and the late William Boyd carver, Sr.
He was a
member of the Presbyterian Church in Banner Elk.
Surviving
are his mother, Maggie Carver Parker, of Helen, GA; brother, Bobby
Carver, of
Fayetteville, GA; and sister, Phyllis Shipes, of Cumming, GA; nieces
and
nephews; and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. from
the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Kyle
Woodfin officiating.
Special
music was presented by The Roberts Family.
The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Keith
Buchanan, Jimmy Roberts, Mike Boss, Jimmy Hopkins, Todd Hopkins, and
Worth
Roberts.
Interment
was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
Cemetery. Cochran Funeral Home of
Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr.
Ishmael ‘Ish’ Dyer, age 85, of Blairsville, GA. Passed away Friday,
NOV., 20,
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Dyer
was born in Union county, GA. On
Friday, Nov. 22, 1912, a son of the late Narve Andrew Dyer and Laura
Townsen
Dyer.
Mr. Dyer
attended school at the New Liberty School house,
and his first public job was in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camps,
located
in the general vicinity of Goose Creek.
He and
his wife, Nellie, were married in 1963, after the
construction of the main highway. Mr.
Dyer was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.
Surviving are
his wife, Nellie A. Dyer, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law,
Vivian and
Rev. Harry E. Poovey, of Monroe NC; son and daughters-in-law, Jack H.
and Jane
Dyer, of Calhoun, GA; son and his fiancée, Charles L. Dyer and Cynthia
Lambert,
both of Ocean Springs, MS; and daughter son son-in-law, Geraldine and
David
Coker, of Blairsville; sister Norma McDonald, of New Smyrna Beach, FL;
grandchildren: Lisa Green, of Raleigh, NC; Allen Poovey, of Monroe, NC;
Ted
Dyer of Trenton, GA; Jeff Dyer, of Calhoun, GA; Kendra Dyer and Carley
Dyer,
both of Alexandria, VA; Sara Cooper, of Houston, TX; and Molly Coker,
of
Blairsville, GA; three great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. from
Choestoe Baptist Church with Dr. Harry E. Poovey and Rev. James Geer
officiating.
Interment
was in the Choestoe Cemetery, under the direction
of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA.

Mrs.
Laura Pickelsimer Parker, age 93, of Blairsville passed away Monday,
November
23, 1998 at Union General Hospital. Mrs.
Parker was born in Fannin County, the daughter of the late Elijah and
Mary Emma
Cook Pickelsimer. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Newman J. Parker, son Earl Parker, grandson Hoe
Parker,
and granddaughter Tonia Parker Tanner.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker, and a member of Pleasant Grove
Baptist
Church.
Survivors
include sons and daughters-in-law Jack and Peggy parker of Blairsville;
Zane
and Charlotte Parker of Greensbora, SC; Bill and Pat Parker of
Blairsville; son
Ray Parker of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Wayne
Colwell
of Blairsville; jean and Bill Kendall of Hiawassee; Jane and Jim
Collins of
Blairsville; daughter-in-law Betty Spiva Parker of Athens; brother and
sister-in-law Roy and Grace Pickelsimer of Akron, Ohio; 15
grandchildren and 11
great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at 2
p.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with the
Rev. Emon
Jones officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers were: mike Parker,
Gary Kendall, Jason Brown, Greg Parker, Justin Collins and Mickey King,
Jr.

Mr.
Rufus H. Page, age 87, of Blairsville, GA. Passed away Thursday, Nov.
26, 1998 in
Union General Hospital.
Mr. Page
was born Jan. 22, 1911 in Spartanburg, SC, a son of the late Rufus H.
and Alice
Wheeler Page.
He moved to
Blairsville five and a half years ago from Haywood County, NC. Mr. Page was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in
WWII, and a member of the St. Clare’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors
include: wife, Helen Page of the home; children, Harry page of
Marietta, GA.,
Dolly Evans of Atlanta, GA., Alice Duryea of Blairsville, GA., Lela
Fasciano of
Roswell, GA., and Johnny Jones of Lake Junaluska, NC.;
10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial
services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 28 at St.
Clare’s Episcopal Church with Father Carter Maddox officiating.

GA. was in charge of arrangements.
