Mrs. Sherry Burnette Southerland, age 55, of Blairsville, GA passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at her home.  Mrs. Southerland was born Wednesday, may 14, 1952 in Towns County, GA.  Sherry attended New Liberty Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mia Plott.

Survivors include: parents, Anceberry and Donnie Harkins Burnette of Blairsville, GA; daughters, Lisa Burnette, Sonya Burnette and Christy Couret, all of Blairsville; sons, Franklin Plott of Young Harris, GA and Chad Plott of Blairsville; brothers, Johnny, Gary and Ronnie Burnette, all of Blairsville and sisters, Kathryn Lloyd and Tami Lee, both of Blairsville; 21 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec3ember 3, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Danny White officiating.  Special music was presented by The Travelling Pilgrims.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Gary Burnette, Ronnie Burnette, Johnny Burnette, Jamie Burnette, Bobby Thompson, and Danny Jones.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort: Jacob Willis, and Cody Franklin.  Interment followed in the Owltown Church of God Cemetery.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 10-11, Monday, December 3.

connie kelley

 

Mrs. Connie Kelley, age 75, of Blairsville, GA, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, November 27, 2007.  Mrs. Kelley was born Tuesday, March 1, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late Raymond VonElsky and the late Helena Anton VonElsky.  Connie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  She was preceded in death by a son, Kent Kelley.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Charmaine and Michael Buttrill of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Sylvie Kelley of Blairsville, GA; grandson, Rodney Kelley and granddaughters, Jamie and Cristal Kelley.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 30, 2007 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the  Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Special music was presented by R. Terry Hooper and Ryan Showalter.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Thursday, November 29.

alicia gayle jones

 

Mrs. Alicia Gayle Jones, age 53, of Nottley Dam Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Jones was born on June 1, 1954 in Cobb County, GA, the daughter of John Brown and Claudette Pettitt Brown.  She had been a Respiratory Therapist for several years and had worked in several local hospitals.  Alicia was a loving and caring person and had touched many people over the years.  She was a loving daughter, mother and especially grandmother and a friend to all who knew her.  Alicia was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Jones are one daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Darren Groves of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Brannon and Leslie Jones of Blairsville; mother, Claudette Sparks of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Faye Brown of Blairsville; uncle and aunt, David and Sandra Pettitt of Marietta; aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Richard Shaw of Monroe, GA; special friend, Katie Abercrombie of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Dustin (Bubba) and Luther (Tylan) Jones, Dawson and Drake Groves; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by Scott Lance and Marty Groves.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Junior arrant, Chad Sisum, Jeff Nicholson, Keith Jones, Jay Stubberfield and Eddie Davis.  Interment was held in the Pine Top Baptist Church Cemetery.

pauline poteete watkins

 

Pauline Poteete Watkins, age 90, of Blairsville, GA passed away Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA.  A native and lifelong resident of Union County, GA; she was the daughter of the late Emory and Georgia Mauney Poteete.  She was a homemaker and attended Zion Hill Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence William Watkins in 1998; a son, Billy Watkins and a daughter, Louise Odom.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Lee Watkins and his wife Judy of Blairsville, GA; two grandsons, Tommy Watkins and Tony Watkins and three great-granddaughters Ashley Amber and Hailey Watkins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC with the Rev. Bryan Souther officiating.    Interment was in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, GA.  Pallbearers were David Wilson, Tommy Watkins, Tony Watkins, Kendill Foster, Lee beaver and Kenny Beaver.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.

howard walters

 

Howard Walters was born into the eternal heavens on November 17, 2007,  He was 82.

Howard is survived by his daughter Wendy, son-in-law Chuck, and grandchildren: Preston, Coral and Marina, all of Acworth, GA; his son, John, daughter-in-law, Jill, and grandchildren: Steven and Brian, of Key Largo, FL.

Howard was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Midway in the Pacific during World War II and retired from the boat business.

His ashes will join his wife’s ashes just offshore in Key Largo and a celebration will be held in Blairsville in January for his friends.  His love of boats followed him to his last days, having him just finish rebuilding his dream of his wooded 1956 Century Boat, the “Wendy Jo III

helyne lucy “sue” patton

 

Mrs. Helyne Lucy “Sue” Patton, age 73, of Grassy Knoll Road, Blairsville, GA, formerly of Windermere, FL, was called to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 2, 207.  Mrs. Patton was born on December 13, 1933 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Alfred Erwin Lucy and the late Helyne Croft Lucy.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert John Lucy.  She devoted her life to her husband and family and will be cherished in their hearts forever.  She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her and by all the “special friends” that loved and cared for her at the Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Patton is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Robert Morris Patton of Blairsville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan McMillan of College park, FL, Cathy and ken Flood of Blairsville, Becky and Bob Ivey of Windermere, FL; five grandchildren, Brandy McMillan, Rob Ivey, Brad Ivey, Stephanie Flood and Kelly Flood; one great-grandchild, Alexis Flood; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.  Special music was presented by Naomi Cummings.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Joe Teague, Adam Gaddis, “J.R.” Murphy, Nick DiMartino, Charles Long and Phillip Meeks.  Interment followed in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Sue Patton.
