MRS. ethel wimpey rawlins

 

Mrs. Ethel Wimpey Rawlins, age 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2000 in Union County, Georgia.

Mrs. Rawlins was born in Union County, Georgia, on Saturday, July 5, 1913.Her parents were the late John and Nellie Duckworth Wimpey.Mrs. Rawlins was a lifelong resident of this area and taught school for 41 years.She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, Union County Hospital Auxiliary, and Union County Retired Teachers.Her husband, Claud Rawlins, passed away in 1984.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Nelle and Sheldon Henderson of Blairsville, and grace and Carson Ownbey of Blairsville; a sister, Ruby Parks of Blue Ridge; grandson, Davy Henderson and granddaughter Amber Ownbey, also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 30, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.Special music was presented by Mrs. Martha Cone, and Mrs. Patsy Davenport.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:Sam Ensley, Bill Duckworth, Danny Brown, Bob Ensley, John Turner, Jr. and Brannon Dyer.Serving as honorary escort to the family were members of Union County Retired Teachers and Union General Hospital Auxiliary.Interment was in Choestoe Cemetery.

MRS. jonnie duvall deaver

 

Mrs. Jonnie Duvall Deaver, age 81, of Deaver Road, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2000 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.Mrs. Deaver was born on March 10 1919 in Union County, the daughter of the late Nellie Stephens Duvall.She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County, and was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Ivy Log Baptist church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Deaver in 1985 and an infant son, Charles Edward Deaver in 1946.

Surviving Mrs. Deaver are one son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Janie Deaver of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Danny Young of Blairsville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Chris and Charles Yarborough of Gray, GA and Ruby Norton of Eatonton, GA; four grandchildren, Robin and Tim Deaver, Kyle and Kacie Young, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at 2 pm from the Ivy Log Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.Special music was presented by the First Baptist church of Young Harris.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:Tim Deaver, Kyle Young, Fred Gray, Devin Roberts Jim Elliott and Bruce Gray.Interment followed in the Ivy Log Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. elbert chastain

 

Mr. Elbert Chastain, age 79, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2000 in the Veteranís Administration Hospital in Decatur, Georgia.

Mr. Chastain was born in Polk County, Tennessee on Friday, may 27, 1921 a son of the late George Washington Chastain and Azalene Towery Chastain.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European Theatre.He had lived in Atlanta for many years, but moved back to the Blairsville area in 1991.Mr. Chastain was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Smith Chastain, in 1963.

Surviving are three sisters Gusta Clement of Grayson, Georgia, Myrtle Rhodes of Blue Ridge, Georgia and Reba Patterson of Blairsville; a host of nieces and nephews also survive along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at 10 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Vernon Davenport officiatingSpecial music was presented by The Faith Singers.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:Brian Hood, Clifford Chastain, Gerald Clement, David Emerson, George Emerson and McCoy Walker.Interment was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. charlie fortenberry

 

Mr. Charlie Fortenberry age 72 of Canupp Dr. Blairsville, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2000 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following an extended illness.Mr. Fortenberry was born on June 7, 1928 in Fannin County, the son of the late Thomas Harrelson Fortenberry and the late Phena Milsaps Fortenberry.He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was of the Methodist faith.He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Townsend, Bessie Sosebee, and Elbe Fortenberry, and three brothers, Clint, Frank, and Freddie Fortenberry.

Surviving Mr. Fortenberry are two sisters, Bertie Mae Davis of Detroit, MI., and Virginia Dyer also of Detroit, several nieces and nephews.Many other relative and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 3, 2000 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.Special music was presented by Randy and Tammy Hughes and Jessica Miller.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:Leonard Sosebee, Joe Sosebee, Robert Sosebee, Jimmy Townsend, Mike Jenkins and Gary Jenkins.Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.
