Mr. Riley
John Stephens age 69 of Town Mtn.
Rd., Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 in the
Northeast Georgia
Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr.
Stephens was born on May 9, 1941 in
Murphy, NC, the son of the late Lee Stephens and the late Addie Jackson
Stephens. Riley was a lifelong resident
of Union County. Before retirement he
was employed at Builderway of Blairsville and then for Union County for
several
years. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Doris Dell (Dotti) Brown Stephens in 2002, five brothers, Frank,
Cecil,
Carter, Bill and Claude Stephens and by two sisters, Elizabeth Wages
and Alline
Noble. Mr. Stephens was a member of New
Harmony Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr.
Stephens are one son, Greg Stephens of Blairsville, special friend,
DeBronda
Mullins of Blairsville, a chosen daughter, Crystal Murphy of
Blairsville, three
brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Libby Stevens of Blairsville,
Henry and
Martha Stephens of Dalton, Gene and Anita Stephens of Santa Rosa, FL,
several
nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday Dec. 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Wade Plott officiating. Special
music was presented by Scott and Tammy
Lance. The following gentleman served as
pallbearers: Anthony Stephens, Danny Stephens, Curtis Stephens, Drake
Stephens,
Johnny Stevens and Charles Ash. Interment followed in the Rich Cemetery
where
he will rest next to his wife, Dotti. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12-2 p.m.
prior to
the services.

Memorial
services for May Lou Voshall will
be at 11 a.m., December 11 at the First United Methodist Church of
Union County
in Blairsville, GA. Ms. Voshall died
November 23, 2010 at the age of 76. She
was born January 3, 1934 in Muskegon, MI of the late Merita Wilks
Bright and
Merle Leroy Bright, Sr. She married Dave
Voshall of Massillon, OH in 1952 and nurtured a family of three sons
and two
daughters.
Survivors include four children;
Thom Voshall (Vicki) of
Woodstock, GA; Karen Canaday (Frank) of Buford, GA; Glenda Dzuba (John
Alex) of
Dawsonville, GA; Bob Voshall (Heather) of Alabaster, AL; sister Bonnie
DeMarr
(Ron) of largo, FL; and five grandchildren.
During their marriage of 46 years,
Lou and Dave traveled throughout the U.S. before settling in a log home
in the
north GA mountain community of Blairsville.
For the past 11 years Ms. Voshall taught pre-school at the
Christian
school of her church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the FUMC Child Enrichment Center and mailed to the First United
Methodist Church, 938 Hwy 515, Blairsville, GA 30512.

Rev.
Phillip Woodrow Jackson age 61 of Eagle Bend Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Wednesday Dec. 1, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Rev. Jackson was born on Oct. 24, 1949 in
Murphy, NC, the son of the late Joe Jackson and the late Esta Anderson
Jackson.
Phillip was a preacher for over thirty
years and really loved the Lord. He also
loved hunting and fishing. He was a
loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He
attended Loving Grace Friendship Church,
Jones Creek Church of God and was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist
Church in
Andrews, NC.
Surviving
Rev. Jackson are his loving wife of seventeen years, Rita Taylor
Jackson of
Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Tammy Jackson of
Hiawassee, Derrek and Abby Jackson of Blairsville, two step daughters
and sons-in-law,
Tracy and Tommy Holbrooks of Blairsville, Wendy and Steve Burrell of
Blairsville, one sister, Gail Ford, one niece, Renee Lord, one nephew,
Jason
Ford, two grandchildren, Jason and Willow Jackson, five step
grandchildren,
Kayla Nelder, Josh and Hannah Holbrooks, Donovan and Ethan Green, a
host of
church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.

services were held on Friday Dec. 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain

Chapel with the Rev. Anthony Dye and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. Special music was presented by the Deacons of
Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The following
gentleman served as pallbearers, Stanley Gibson, Tommy Holbrooks, Perry
Groves,
Nathan Noblet, Josh Holbrooks, and Lesley Groves. Interment
followed in the Liberty Hill
Methodist Church Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral

Mrs.
Julia "Claudette" Sparks age 74 of Nottely Dam Rd., Blairsville
passed away on Wednesday Dec. 1, 2010 in Chatanooga, (sic) TN following
a brief
illness. Mrs. Sparks was born on July
11, 1936 in Union County, the daughter of the late Rev. Claude Pettett
and the
late Beulah Mae Patterson Pettett. Before
retirement she had been employed at Union General Hospital for several
years. Claudette loved to sing gospel
songs in church
and loved to crotchet. She was a loving
mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her husband,
Ralph Sparks in 2005. Claudette was a
member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Sparks are one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Faye Brown of
Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, David and Sandra Pettett of
Marietta, one sister, Carolyn Shaw of Conyers, GA, five grandchildren,
Melinda
Groves, Brannon Jones, Heather Brown, Deana Brown, Farrah Brown all of
Blairsville, four great grandchildren, Tylan, Dustin, Drake and Dawson,
several
nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

services were held on Saturday Dec. 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain

Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hughes and Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.

Mr. Harry
W. Madducks of Blairsville, GA,
formerly of Hermitage, PA, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010,
following
an illness. He was 101 years old.
Mr.
Madducks was
born in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the only child of Daniel and Charlotte
Madducks. He attended New Castle High
School and graduated from Westminster College in 1932 with a Bachelor’s
degree
in Business. During World War II, he
served with the Second Army for four years and retired from the Army
Reserves
after 28 years with the rank of Major.
He was married to Evelyn Cochran Madducks on June 12, 1936. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1997. Mr. Madducks retired from the Westinghouse
Electric Corporation in Sharon, PA, as an Industrial Engineer in 1917
after 30
years of service. Following his
retirement Mr. Madducks served as an Insurance Manager for the retiree
medical
benefits for the Westinghouse Retiree’s Association for 11 years. Mr. Madducks was also a 50 years member of
Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church where he served for many years
as an
usher.
Mr.
Madducks is
survived by a daughter, Kaye Darlene Hetrick and husband John of
Marietta, GA;
three grandchildren; John P. Hetrick, wife Kris, of Centerville, VA;
Rahn A.
Hetrick, retired U.S. Navy; Lon K. Hetrick, of Sugar Hill, GA; and 5
great
grandchildren: John, Andrew, Hans, Haley, and Heidi Hetrick.
A funeral service was held at
Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Sharon, PA, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday,
November
30. 2010, with Rev. Richard Carlson, pastor of the Oakland Avenue
United
Methodist Church officiating. Friends
called upon the family at the funeral home for one hour prior to the
funeral
service. The burial took place at
Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr.
Fred
Orlen Rogers age 96 of Byers Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday
December
4, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Rogers was born on July 30, 1914 in Union
County, the son of the late Otto Rogers and the late Ader Patterson
Rogers. Fred was a proud veteran of the US
Army of
WWII, receiving three Purple Hearts and Five Bronze Stars. He was also awarded as an Expert Marksman with
a rifle. He was a loving father,
grandfather and great grandfather. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie Dockery in 2008 and by two
brothers,
Lester and Woodrow Rogers and by a sister, Faye Thomas. Mr.
Rogers was a member of the Church Of God
in Fostoria, OH.
Surviving
Mr. Rogers are two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Baggett of
Blairsville, Vicky and Howard Ohler of Fendly (sic), OH, two sons and
one
daughter-in-law, James and Beverly Rogers of Holland, OH, Charles
Rogers of
Blairsville, nine grandchildren, Brian Davenport, Sheila Partin, Sherry
Langston, Bret Davenport, Jordan Ohler, Bethany Needler, Drew Ohler,
Phillip
Morris and Kimberly Rogers, seventeen great grandchildren, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Chapel with the Rev. Ketron Moss officiating. Special
music will be presented by Martha
Davenport and Sheila Partin. The
following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Eddy Partin, Jordan
Ohler,
Brian, Bret, Slade and Cody Davenport. Interment
will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery will he will rest
by his
wife Valerie. The North Georgia Honor
Guard will conduct military Honors. The

Gregory Anderson, age 66 of Marietta,
died Sunday, November 28, 2010. A native
of Suches, GA, she was born on March 10, 1944.
She is survived by her husband, Roy

Edna
Grace Riens, age 88, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Union County Nursing
Home in
Blairsville.
Ms. Riens was born in Clay County, Florida
on May 19, 1922, a daughter of the late Henry and Ina Rose (DeBolt)
Sapp. She moved to Blairsville in 1998
after a
career as a Dental Technician. Ms. Riens
was preceded in death by her son, Zane Henry Riens; a daughter, Helen
Celeste
Becker; and brother, Henry E. Sapp.
Surviving family members include sons,
William Fred Riens of Middleburg, Florida and Glen A. Riens of
Valdosta,
Georgia; daughters, Patricia J. Braun of Blairsville and Denise I.
Jarmon of
Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Avis Pearson of Marshall, North
Carolina;
numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs.
Sonia Hendry age 88 of Madola Rd., Epworth, GA passed away on
Thursday Dec. 2, 2010 in Stonehenge Assisted Living following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Hendry was born on July
10, 1922 in Liverpool, England, the daughter of the late Louey and Ada
Boyarski. She was a veteran and Captain in
the British Armed Forces. She was
employed as a court reporter during the Neremberg (sic) Trials. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling,
square dancing, knitting, gardening and was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her husband,
William Hendry in 2006, a son, Stephen Hendry in 1975 and a brother,
Tannum
Boyarski. Mrs. Hendry was of the
Catholic faith.
Surviving
Mrs. Hendry are one daughter, Dianne Hendry of Epworth, one son, Mark
Hendry of
Blue Ridge, one sister, Celia Rogansky of Liverpool, England, one
brother
,Kenneth Boyars of Pleasant Hill, CA, three grandchildren, Denver, Kent
and
Neva, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No

Mr.
Marshall Wilson Carnright age 68, of Duncan View Dr., Blairsville
passed away
on Tuesday Nov. 30, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following an
extended
illness. Mr. Carnright was born on July
2, 1942 in Troy, PA, the son (sic) the late Edmond Wilson Carnright. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM.
Marshall served as Chief of Police in
Pound, VA. for several years. He was a
loving father, brother and grandfather. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Carnright. Marshall
was of the Church of God faith.
Surviving
Mr. Carnright are one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kim Carnright
of
Canton, GA, two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan Russo of Cherry
Hill, NJ.,
Marsha and Neil Turner of Ellijay, GA, one sister, six grandchildren
Mike
Turner, John Carnright, Jake Turner, Jennifer Carnright, Kate Turner
and Lucas
Russo, many other relatives and friends also survive.
