mrs. betty rogers collins

 

Mrs. Betty Rogers Collins, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 1999.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Collins.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother.  Mrs. Collins was born on July 26, 1925 in Union County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Frank Randall Rogers and Lois Roberta Seabolt Rogers.  She was owner of Collins Department Store in Blairsville for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Kent of Canton GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Mamie Rogers; Charles and Omah Rogers; Don and Ann Rogers; Tommy and Jean Rogers; Clark and Jo Ann Rogers; and brother, Bobby Rogers; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Orvin Lance; granddaughter and her husband, Kim and Bryan Murschel; granddaughters, Kayce Epperson and Haley Kent; four great grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Olivia and Molly; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 1999 from First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Special music was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth Plott.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers”: Terry Rogers, Robbie Rogers, Tommy Randall Rogers, Robert Rogers, Larry and Gary Lance.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Union County Building Fund or to Union General Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Dorothy “dot” reece cooper

 

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Reece Cooper, age 56 of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 28, 1999 in Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Union County, Georgia on Monday, March1, 1943, a daughter of the late Josiah Reece and Avie Burnette Reece.  Mrs. Cooper had lived in Marietta for the past 40 years and was employed by the Federal Government as a management analyst.  She was a member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church and when in Blairsville, she attended Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Mr. Benny Cooper, of Marietta; her mother-in-law, Laura Cooper; daughter, Kaye Cooper of Marietta; sister, Cheryl Jujuan Cosner of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. David Hayes and Rev. Dean Head officiating.  Special music was presented by Blake Cooper and Mildred LeCroy.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Larry Hutson, J.E. Hutson, Douglas Queen, Johnny Burnette, Richard Reece, Jimmy Lance, and Bobby Queen.  Interment was in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

mrs. lena mae sargent thomas

 

Mrs. Lena Mae Sargent Thomas, age 79, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 1, 1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Towns County, Georgia, on Sunday, March 7, 1920, a daughter of the late Claude Sargent and Minnie Stephens Sargent.  Mrs. Thomas was a lifelong resident of this area.  She was a homemaker and was the widow of the late John Thomas, who passed away in 1998.  Mrs. Thomas was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters and son in law: Barbara and Randall Edwards, of Alpharetta, GA; Byrdene and Bill Wilson, of Douglasville, GA; Rebecca and Kenneth Dyer, of Blairsville; and Robin and Rick Volker, of Norcross, GA; sons and daughter in law: James and Sharon Thomas, of Lilburn, GA; and Robert and Dorothy Thomas, of Dawsonville, GA’; sisters, Mae Belle Collins, of Tunnel Hill, GA; and Vina Martin and Susie Gillian, both of Dalton; five grandchildren: Matthew Dyer, of Blairsville; Meredith Thomas of Lilburn Thomas Scott Edwards, of the U.S. Air Force,  Allison Thomas of Dawson-ville; and James Andrews Thomas, II, of Lilburn; many nieces and nephews and  other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 2, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Special music was presented by R. Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Thomas Scott Edwards, James Andrew Thomas, II; Matthew Charles Dyer, Leon Davenport, J.D. Stephens, and Roy Hamby.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.
