Mrs. Mary Ruth Garrett, age 79, of
Blairsville, GA, passed from this life to heaven on Thursday, December
6, 2012,
at her home.
Mary was born on March 28, 1933, in
Towns County, GA, a daughter of the late Garnie C. Fortenberry and the
late
Bonnie Kirby Fortenberry. In 1951 she married Carl Garrett and they
have always
made their home in Blairsville. They had one son, Larry. Mary worked at
the
Union County Hardware Store for many years and later at the Union
County Co-op.
She was an excellent seamstress and did alterations as well. She had
bravely
battled cancer for the past year. Mary was a member of Shady Grove
Methodist
Church.
Mary Ruth is survived by her son
Larry and his wife Janet; grandsons, Jim Matt and wife Connie; and
Joseph. She
had two great grandsons, Scott and Robby Garrett and one great
granddaughter,
Hailey Garrett. Mary is also survived by her sister Barbara Everett and
brother
Claxton Fortenberry and his wife Linda. She was preceded in death by
her
husband Carl Garrett; her parents, Garn Fortenberry and wife, Bonnie
Kirby
Fortenberry; brothers: Bobby and Earl Fortenberry; and her sister,
Betty
Turner. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive, and many,
many
friends.
Funeral services for Mary Ruth were
held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special
music was
presented by The Kelley Trio. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers:
Jim Garrett, Joe Garrett, Scot Garrett, Larry Farley, Joel Turner, and
Kelly
Gunter, with burial in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation at the
funeral home was held on Friday evening, December 7, 2012, between the
hours of
6 until 9 p.m.

Mrs. Ursula Helen
Davis, age 74, of Hidden Lake RD, Blairsville passed away at her home
on
Thursday, December 6, 2012. She was born in Berlin Germany to the late
Erich
and Helene Deutschman Bochow. She was a loving mother, sister and
grandmother.
Ursula was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church, and her church
and her
Lord were a very important part of her life. She was preceded in death
by her
husband, John Samuel Davis in 2002 and a brother Horst Bochow.
Survivors include five sons, John S. and Ashley Davis IV of
Blairsville, GA,
David C. and Petra Schaefer of Grayson, GA, Thomas S. Schaefer of
Corpus
Cristy, TX, Dale V. Schaefer of Spring, TX and Michael and Lisa
Schaefer of
Hayesville, NC, sisters-in-law, Shirley and Gordon Cavanaugh and Mary
Puckett
both of Snellville, GA, several grandchildren, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 10, 2012 at Coosa United
Methodist
Church with Rev. Jason Helton officiating. Music was by Cynthia Lumme.
Pallbearers were Bo Berry, Chad Spiva, Jeremy Adams, Jason Karnes,
Terry
Sosebee and Taylor Smith. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In
lieu of
flowers the family requests that you may made memorial contributions to
Coosa
U.M.C. Cemetery Fund in memory of Mrs. Davis.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday
evening from 6
until 8 p.m.

Delores E. Clarke, age
88, of Wilmar Circle, Blairsville passed away at her home on Monday,
December
3, 2012 following an extended illness. She was born in South Dakota on
April
17, 1924 one of 13 children to the late Leroy and Helen Ruth Mincks.
She and
her husband, Charles B. Clarke, Sr., lived in Dayton, Ohio and raised
their
three children there, then in 1960 they moved to Boynton Beach, FL and
then in
1980 to Blairsville. Delores was in the Hospital Auxillary (sic) for
years and
loved helping at the nursing home and hospital. She was preceded to her
Heavenly Home by her husband, Charles, son Michael, grandson Chad
Clarke III,
son-in-law, Ron Blanton, brothers, Clifford, Leo and Lamoine Mincks and
a
sister, Lorreine Harkness. A member of Antioch Baptist Church, Delores
was
loved and beloved and will be missed by all.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Karolyn Clarke of
Blairsville, daughter, Linda Blanton of Lakeworth, FL, brothers, Gary
and Nancy
Mincks of Vermillion, SD, Darryl and Beverly Mincks of Burbank, SD,
Kenneth and
Lois Mincks of Warsaw, MO, sisters Inez and Robert Neilsen of Burbank,
SD, Opal
Johnson of Omaha, NE, Betty and Clarence Cogdill of Rogue River, OR,
Marjorie
Nickell Humbolt, KS, Helen and Otto Kudlacek of St. Louis, MO, four
grandchildren, Wendy Wummer, Jeff Blanton, Patti Tito and Danielle
Tryzbiak,
six great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2012 at
Antioch
Baptist Church with Rev. George Cline officiating. Music was by Betty
Gurr. In
lieu of flowers make memorial donations to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee
or
Union County Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. Interment was in Antioch
Baptist Church

Mr. Ralph L. Hogsed,
age 83, of Wind Chime Lane, Blairsville, passed away peacefully on
Sunday, December
9, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Hogsed
was born on Nov. 2, 1929 in Murphy, NC, the son of the late George
Hogsed and
the late Myrtle Hartness Hogsed. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.
Ralph
was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was
an avid
horse racing fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Smith
Hogsed in
2008 and a grand daughter, Brooke Michelle Hogsed. Mr. Hogsed was a
member of
Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Hogsed are this fiancée, Willie Mae Colwell of Blairsville, two
sons and
daughters-in-law, Gary and Ginny Hogsed of Blairsville, Ricky and Sandy
Hogsed
of Marietta, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Archambault
of
Blairsville, Lisa and Gary Butler of Blairsville, one sister, Etta Mae
Watkins
of Akron, OH, five grandchildren, James L. Ezell, Christopher Hogsed,
Ricky,
Jonathon and Skye Butler, two great grandchildren, Brandon and Allyssa
Hogsed,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Thursday, Dec.13, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the
Mountain
View Chapel with the rev. (sic) Stacy Dyer officiating. Special music
will be
presented by the Harmony Grove Church Choir. The following gentleman
will serve
as pallbearers, Ricky, Gary and Skye Butler, Christopher Hogsed, James
Ezell,
Jeff Deaver and Matthew Bowie. Interment will follow in the Harmony
Grove
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the
funeral home
on Wednesday evening from 6-9pm.

Mrs. Sally Ann Gregory,
age 61 of Brookstone Way, Blue Ridge formerly of Blairsville, passé
(sic) away on Saturday, December 8, 2012
in the
Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Gregory
was born
on Dec. 23, 1950 in Hollywood, FL, the daughter of the late Dale
Matthewson and
the late Sarah Watkins Matthewson. Sally was a loving mother,
grandmother,
great grandmother and was a friend to many. She loved animals and
people. She
had lived in Blairsville for twenty eight years before moving to Blue
Ridge in
2007. Mrs. Gregory was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mrs. Gregory are one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Doug Green of
Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Mary Matthewson of
Cleveland, GA, five grandchildren, Sarah, Christian, Kaitlyn, Hannah
and Jacob,
two great grandchildren, Kyler and Karson, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
A
memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In
lieu of
flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to
the
Union County Humane Society in Mrs. Gregory’s memory.

Mrs. Penny Lynn
Pittman, age 39, of Cedar Wood Lane, Blairsville passed away Thursday,
December
6, 2012 at Union General Hospital. She was born December 23, 1972 in
Murphy,
NC. She had lived here for the past 15 years and was a lifelong
resident of
Cherokee and Union counties. Penny was a loving mother, daughter,
sister and
was a friend to many. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard
Ross
Maney. Penny was of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.
Survivors include, her mother, Aylene Maney of Murphy, NC, fiancé, Nick
DeGolyer of Blairsville, GA, children, Amber and Jonathan Camacho of
Mexico,
Kourtney and Alex Craze of McCaysville, GA, Johnny Doll of Alpharetta,
GA,
sisters, Arlene Hughes of Blairsville, GA and Janeane Hatchett of
Murphy, NC, future
mother-in-law, Carli DeGolyer of Blairsville, GA.
A Memorial service was held on Tuesday Dec. 11, 2012 at 5 p.m.
from New
Hope Fellowship Church with Rev. Max Pittman officiating. In lieu of
flowers if
you wish, the family requests that you may make donations to help
defray
expenses in Penny’s memory. The family met with friends following the
services
at the church.

CONSTANCE PRISCILLA ADAMS BROWN
Constance Priscilla
Adams Brown, age 88, of Blairsville, GA passed away Saturday, December
1, 2012
at Fannin Regional Hospital. She was born on July 30, 1924 in
Plainfield, NJ to
the late Ralph Newton Adams and Josephine Gauthier Adams. Mrs. Brown
was a
school teacher for Toledo, Ohio Public Schools for many years. She was
of the
Episcopalian Faith. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband,
Jack
Gordon Brown and daughter, Judith P. Brown.
Survivors include her
sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence A. and Kate Brown of Venice, FL and
Stephen
F. and Maureen Brown of Sylvania, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca
S. and
Brian Erickson of Murphy, NC; grandchildren, Stephanie G. Brown, Jordan
G.
Brown, Eric Brown, Amy Callis, Jeff Brown and Laurie Brown and
great-grandchildren, Orion, Ilyana and Paisley.
Mrs. Brown was cremated
