dorothy aleen mashburn

 

Mrs. Dorothy Aleen Mashburn, age 77, of Gainesville formerly of Blairsville passed away on Monday, November 20, 2006 in the North East Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mrs. Mashburn was born on May 16, 1929 in Union County, the daughter of the late Garnett L. Owenby and the late Bonnie Mae Erwin Owenby.  She was a native of Union County and had lived in the Gainesville area since 1968.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendall O. Mashburn in 1999; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Mashburn; a sister, Mildred Butt; brothers, Bill, Audie, J.D. and Charles Owenby Jr.  Mrs. Mashburn was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Mashburn are two daughters and one son-in-law, Thersha Major of Oakwood, GA, Judy and Don Skelly of Aliso Viejo, CA; four sons and daughters-in-law, Morris and Missy Mashburn of Blairsville, Mike and Lisa Mashburn of Blairsville, Jerry and Pam Mashburn of Gainesville, Jack and Laraine Mashburn of Cleveland, GA; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dillard and Rose Owenby of Flint, MI, Ray and Betty Owenby of Flint, MI, Jimmy and Jimmie Owenby of Hiawassee, Johnny (Pee Wee) and Gail Owenby of Blairsville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Brenda and Robert Wallace of Blairsville, Melvalynn and John Ledford of Blairsville, Shirley Brown of Adairsville, GA; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Matthew, Adam, Jody and Travis Mashburn, Chad Sosebee, Ricky Major, Justin Seltrecht and Corey Mallard.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8pm.

bluford marion dyer

 

Mr. Bluford Marion Dyer, age 73 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, December 1, 2006 at Embracing Arms Hospice in Snellville.  Mr. Dyer was born Sunday, November 26, 1933 in Union County, GA to the late Marion Jewell Dyer and the late Azie Collins Dyer.  Mr. Dyer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  He was a farmer and had also served for many years on the ASCS board.  Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jo Shook Dyer in 2004.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Jounida and Keith Porter of Jefferson, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Wayne Hedden of Blairsville, GA; sisters, Ethelene Dyer Jones of Milledgeville, GA, Louise Dyer of Commerce, GA and Linda Fortenberry, Brenda Murphy and Janice Lance, all of Blairsville; brothers, Eugene Dyer, Lloyd Shelton and Troy Dyer, all of Blairsville, GA; grandson, Luke Hedden; granddaughter, Leslie Hedden and grandsons, Blaze Porter and Sky Porter.  Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Keith Jones officiating.  A Eulogy was provided by Mr. Bob Gibby.  Music was provided by Minister R. Terry Hooper and Ryan Showalter.  Interment followed in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Blaze Porter, Sky Porter, Luke Hedden, Marty Gibby, Sylvan Dyer and A.J. Shook.

IN lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Alzheimer’s Association headquarters, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601.

joseph anthony leone

 

Joseph Anthony Leone, age 93, of Blairsville, GA and St. Lucie West, FL, died Sunday, December 10, 2006, after a short illness in Blairsville.  Born in Westfield, NY, JOE Was a resident of Chautauqua County, NY for 62 years.  He was a professional jazz musician for 80 years, a piano technician, and owner of three music stores in western New York State.  A World War II Air Force veteran, Joe was also a fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Piano Technicians Guild, the Musicians’ Union, and The World Music & jazz Society.  He was most recently the pianist with the “Vintage Notes’ band in Union County, GA and the “King’s Isle Trio” in St. Lucie West, FL.

Joe was loved by family and friends for his infectious smile, animated storytelling, and his genuine interest in other people.  His charm was both effortless and undeniable, demonstrated in his exuberant piano playing, absurd puns, and traditional Italian cooking.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anne Marie (Furnar) Leone; two daughters, JoAnne Leone of Blairsville, GA, and Carol Leone Smith of Dallas, TX; son-in-law, Regan Smith; grandchildren Ryan and Olivia Smith of Dallas, and brother John Leone of East Hampton, New York.  His brother Salvatore Leone and sister Connie Bivona predecease him.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 12th, at St. Francis of Assisi Church.  The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the scholarship fund of The World Music 7 Jazz Society, c/o Charles Milne, WMJS President, 828-389-8919, Email: wmjs@brmemc.net
