Mrs.
Opal Joyce Sampson, age 89, of Blairsville, GA. passed away Tuesday,
December
9, 1997 following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Sampson was born in Gibson County, IN., the daughter of
Alonzo and
Lillie Trippet Morrison. She was the
widow of the late Wendall Sampson who passed away in 1991.
Surviving
are her daughter and son-in-law Georganne and Rice
White of Houston, TX.; grandchildren,
Margaret Leigh
Hall and R.P. White III; great grandchildren, Alexander P. hall and
Oliver W.
hall.
Memorial
serviced (six) were held Wednesday, December 10,
1997 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Banister Funeral Home in Young
Harris
with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.

Mr.
Coleman Nix, age 90, of 40 Maynard Street, Winder, Georgia passed away
Saturday, December 13, 1997 after an extended illness.
Mr. Nix was born January
12, 1907 in
Union County. He was a member of the
Church of God of Prophecy in Braselton.
He was the son of the late Jim and Ruthie Hunter Nix. He was retired from the logging
industry. He was preceded in death by
his wife Jessie Daniel Nix.
Survivers
(sic) include 7 daughters, Key Robinson of Young
Harris, Lila Lee of Auburn, Mae Brown of Braselton, Jean Gooch of
Braselton,
Teresa McDaniel of Monroe, Blondean Gooch of Braselton, Lorraine Hanson of
Braselton
Funeral
services were held Monday, December 15, 1997 from the Church of the
Lord Jesus
Christ. Rev. G.H. Hammond and Rev. Tommy
Baker officiated. Interment was in
Braselton Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

Mr.
Carl E. Hagan, age 65, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Sunday,
December 14,
1997.
Mr. Hagan was a native
of Gilmer County, and had served in the Air Force.
He had lived in this area for seven years coming
here from Ellijay, GA. Mr. Hagan was a
member of Faith Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving
are his wife, Marian Roth Hagan, of Blairsville; son, Ricky Hagan of
Delaware;
daughter, Carla Sills of Virginia beach, VA.; son, David Hagan, of
Virginia;
and daughter, Pattie Tucker of Delaware; sisters, Dollie Weaver and Sue
Ratcliffe, both of Ellijay; Clara Williams of Savannah, GA.; and
brother, Phil
Hagan of Ellijay; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other
relatives also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, December 18, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Faith
Baptist
Church with Pastor James Brock and Pastor Paul Stevenson officiating. Members of the North Georgia Honor Guard
presented Military Honors at the graveside at Schrougetown Cemetery in
Ellijay. Music was performed by Gloria
Johnson, Pastor James Brock and Sammy Nichols.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Charles Sutton,
Sammy
Nichols, Bob Meredith, Norman Bachelor and Ken Owen.

Mrs. Mary
Parker Gooch, age 63, of Atlanta, GA. And
native of the Suches area, passed away Monday, December
15, 1997.
Mrs.
Gooch had lived in the Atlanta area for the past 45
years. She attended Woody Gap School and
worked for Napa Auto Parts in distribution for over 30 years, as Public
relations Coordinator. Mrs. Gooch was a
member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Suches.
Surviving
are brothers, John H. Parker of Suches, Henry A.
Parker of Dawsonville, Harold Parker of Morganton, James Parker of
Romulus, Michigan, Gene Parker of
Atlanta; sister, Adell Floyd of Fayetteville, GA., Minnie Watkins of
Suches and
Gladys Gilreath of Marietta, GA.; many nieces, nephews and other
relatives also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev.
Paul
Tritt officiating. Nephews served as
pallbearers. Honorary Escort to the
family were employees of Napa in Norcross. Interment was held in Coopers Creek Baptist
Church Cemetery. Sylvan and Linda
Pickelsimer provided music.

Mrs.
Sara L. Summerford, age 80, of Blue Ridge, Georgia formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away Wednesday morning, December 17, 1997.
Mrs.
Summerford was a native of Ben Hill County, Georgia and
was a member of The House of Prayer Interdenominational Church.
Surviving
are her husband, E.E. “Red” Summerford, of Blue
Ridge; a daughter, Annie Hall of Acworth, GA.; three grandchildren,
Robin Hall
Bewley of Acworth, Eddie Hall of Dallas, GA., and Hap Hal of
Huntsville, AL.;
two great grandchildren, Valyn Hall and Lindsey Hall, both of Marietta,
GA.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, December 20, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Interment was in The House of Prayer
Cemetery. Music was performed by Hap,
Eddie and Jerry Hall. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Richard Daetwyler, Bob Millage, Mark
Sosebee,
Tommy Green, Dr. David Gowder, and Harold Pruitt.

Mr.,
Frances
Hinson Rawlins, age 73, of Blairsville, passed away December 15 at her
residence after a short illness.
Mrs.
Rawlins was a native of Jeff Davis County where she
resided most of her life prior to moving to Blairsville, where she
lived for
the past four years. She was a member of
the First United Methodist Church, and the daughter of the late Him and
Florence Lee Hinson,.
She attended the Georgia state College for Women, taught school
in Jeff
Davis County several years, and was retired form the Jeff Davis County
Department of Family and Children’s Services.
Survivors
include two daughters, Nancy Reagin of Baxley, and Susie Thompkins of
Macon;
two sons, Rusty Rawlins of Dublin, and Wesley Rawlins of Augusta; one
brother,
Mike Hinson of Blue Ridge; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held December 18 at
the Hazlehurst First United Methodist
Church. Dr. Ben Blosson,
and the Reverend Mike Morgan officiated with burial in the Hazlehurst
City
Cemetery.
Active
pallbearers were Stephen Reagin, Joshua Reagin, Trey
Rawlins, Scott Hinson, Marky Hall, and Alan Cole.
Honorary
pallbearers were friends who attended the service.
Music was
rendered by Susie Mayo, Tanya Burns, Danny Burns, Gino Mayo, randy
Rentz, and Nathan Smith.

Mrs.
Georgia Sullivan, age 92, of Blairsville passed away Monday morning in
the
Union County Nursing Home. Mrs. Sullivan
was a life-long resident of Union County and a member of Confidence
Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Elbert Sullivan in 1958.
Survivors
include: daughter, Mary Hills; and son, Dormas
Sullivan; and sister, Imogene Hutson, all of Blairsville; 2
grandchildren, 2
great-grandchildren and many other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Cochran
Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Reverend John Strickland officiating. Interment will be in the Confidence Methodist
Church Cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Tuesday anytime after 4 p.m.
Music
will be by The Faith Singers.
Pallbearers
are: Michael Sullivan, Richard Sullivan, Bill Hutson,
Tommy Elrod, Bob Jones, and Neal Moon.
