Mr.
Phillip Warner Baxter, Sr. age 80 of the
Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in
the
Chestatee Hospital in Dahlonega following an extended illness. Mr. Baxter was born on November 10, 1931 in
Elberton, GA, the son of the late Jesse James Baxter and the late Agnes
Estes
Cox Baxter. Phil was a veteran of the US
Air Force during the Korean War. He was
a lifelong resident of Union County Phil
had served as Justice of the Peace and Magistrate of Union County for
several
years in the 1980s. He was a loving
father, brother and grandfather. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Eiko Baxter in 2008.
Mr. Baxter was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Baxter are two daughters
and one son-in-law, Suzan Baxter of Blairsville, Tammy and Mike Vaughn
of
Blairsville, four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Rebecca
Baxter of
Phenix City, AL, Bill Baxter of Blairsville, Phillip Baxter of
Hiawassee,
Michael and Millie Baxter of Blairsville, one brother and
sister-in-law, Larry
and Cecilia Baxter of Lawrenceville, five grandchildren, Jessie Vaughn,
Katie
Baxter, Haley Baxter, Krissy Carman and Melodie Baxter, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Memorial
services were held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 5 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Special
music presented by Scott Lance. Military
Honors were conducted by the North
GA Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers if
you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Shop With A
Cop
P.O. Box 307, Blairsville, GA 30514 in memory of Mr. Baxter. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on Friday from 4-5 p.m. prior to the services.

Gladys
June Thompson Young passed away on
December 17, 2012 after an extended illness.
She was born on June 25, 1926 in Wenonah, NJ, she has resided in
Blairsville for the past 36 years. She
is preceded in death by her husband Lucius Young; two brothers, Woody
and
George Thompson; two sisters Helen Zook and Alice Dewitt and her
son-in-law
Edward F. King. Her life was filled with
travels around the U.S., beautiful tunes from the organ and harmonica
(which
she played), and a big smile that could always warm a heart. In the 40s, she began working as a
switchboard operator for the N.J. Bell Telephone Co.
Later thru her years, she devoted herself as
a Sunday school teacher, secretary at Underwood Hospital in Woodbury,
NJ, owner
of a motel, Blue Waters, in Treasure Island, FL, and retired from her
job as a
secretary at Pinellas Co. Public Schools in Florida.
During her retirement years, she really built
our genealogical roots. She had her
peace here in the North Georgia Mountains to properly digest our
history and
place it where it belonged. She always
made it to her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's events as
their
friends will remember her as "Nana."
Surviving family is her son, William
Ringel of Greenville, TN and daughter, Dianne R. King of Blairsville,
GA,
grandchildren, Ken Ringel, Kevin Ringel, Laura Makuk, Holmes, Danny
Ringel, and
Pam King Passmore, great-grandchildren, Aaron Ringel, Kyle Ringel,
Joshua
Ringel, Megan Holmes Sawyer, Matthew Holmes, Mallory Holmes, Haley
Passmore,
and Kameron Passmore; great great-grandchildren Mariah Ringel,
sister-in-law
Donna Thompson, brother and sister-in-law Walter and Mae Young, many
nieces and
nephews but one especially Jack Zook, also, her kind and loving
caregiver Gwen
Garrett.
A memorial service will be held at a
later date with interment to follow in the Georgia National Cemetery
where she
will rest next to her beloved husband, Lucius.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation in
memory of
Mrs. Young.

Shirley
Jean Carr Reynolds passed away on
December 20, 2012, due to respiratory complications from pneumonia. Born on April 10, 1936, Shirley was raised
near Chicago, IL. She spent most of her
adult life in Sarasota, FL.
Eight years ago she retired to
Blairsville, GA where she worked at Home Depot for a few years, in
order to
help subsidize her quilting hobby. A
member of the Misty Mountain Quilt Guild, Shirley enjoyed her crafting,
her
travel and cooking. She had an easy
appreciation for life and loved to laugh at its ironies.
She was loved and will be missed by
her sons, Kevin D. Reynolds, and wife, Virginia Reynolds, Curtis L.
Reynolds,
and wife Sharon Reynolds, all of Indiana; her sister and best friend,
Janan
Bartell of Blairsville, GA, her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth d.
and Carol
Carr of Sarasota, F; grandchildren Aaron Reynolds, Alysia (Nathan)
Smith,
Daniel Reynolds; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be planned
in the spring. condolences may be sent

Mr. Toye
Ray Holton, age 34, of Blairsville
passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Resaca, GA following a
brief
illness. Toye was born on November 8,
1978 in Calhoun, GA the son of Jimmy Ray Holton and Pamela Elaine Torch
Holton. He was a lifelong resident of
Union County. He loved to hunt and fish
and enjoyed being outdoors. he was a
loving dad, son, brother and uncle. Mr.
Holton was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Holton are his father,
Jimmy Holton of Resaca, GA, his mother, Pam Olton of Blairsville, one
daughter,
Haley Allen of Blairsville, one brother, Jesse Holton of Blairsville,
nephews,
Zackery Holton of Blairsville, several cousins, aunts, uncles, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday December 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with
Rev.
Jack Sanford and Rev. Clayton Reeves officiating. Special
music presented by Paul Slack. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers,
Eddie Lamb, Loyd Slack, Paul slack, Eric Collins, Jarred Garrett and
RL. Byers.
Interment followed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the
family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mr. Don
Ray Lance, age 76, of Hiram, passed
away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Lance
was born
on January 31, 1936 in Blairsville, GA the son of the late James C.
Lance and
the late Mahlissa Adeline Spiva Lance.
Mr. Lance worked as a manager with General Motors and was a
member of
the Narroway Baptist Church. Mr. Lance
was a member of the Paulding County Shrine Club, the Blairsville
Masonic Lodge
and the Allegheny Lodge #114. In
addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Don
Michael lance,
in 2010; sisters and brothers, Albert, Auburn, jay, Champ, Bruce,
Charles,
Johnny, JuAnn, Susie, Betty Jean and Gracie Ann.
Mr. Lance
is
survived by his wife, Doris Tibbitts Lance; a daughter, Leyta Lance
Jordan of
Young Harris; step-daughter, Susan and Warney Conley of Kennesaw;
step-son,
Jimmy and Beverly Rose of Douglasville; five grandchildren, Ashley Lynn
Schurtz, Amber Brown, Michael Shane Lance, Kelly Alaina Jordan, and
Laura
Jessica Jordan; three great grandchildren; other step-grandchildren and
step-great grandchildren; a sister, Bobbie Lance Everett of
Blairsville; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Lance were
held on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Narroway Baptist
Church with
Reverend Todd Tibbitts and Reverend Jimmy Tibbitts officiating. Mr. Lance lay in state from 2 p.m. until the
funeral hour. Interment followed in the
church cemetery with the Masons having charge of the graveside rites. The Paulding County Shrine Club and Fulmer
Lance served as pallbearers and the local Masons served as honorary
pallbearers.
The family received friends at the
funeral home on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
and on
Sunday, December 23, 2012 from 9 a.m. until they left in procession for
the
church.
