MRS. ellen elizabeth mcghin

 

Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth McGhin Lipscomb, age 76, of Jordan Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Rome passed away on Tuesday December 19,2 000 at her daughters home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Lipscomb was born on April 18, 1924 in Live Oak, FL, the daughter of the late William N. McGhin and the late nanny J. Abernathy McGhin.  She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rome.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Lipscomb, a daughter, Geneva Claudette, two brothers, Ira and Hubert McGhin, and a sister, Helen Sewell.

Surviving Mrs. Lipscomb are one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ronnie Jordan of Blairsville; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Bill and Mary Lipscomb of Marietta, George Jr. and Melinda Lipscomb of Shannon, GA, Larry and Geraldine Lipscomb of Bremen, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Charles Baxter of Adairesville; sixteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 1 am from the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Ed Skortz, Elder Mike Duman, and Matt Beasley officiating.  Special music was conducted by Barbara Jordan.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Tracy, Daniel and Van Lipscomb, Steve Matin, B.J. Wright, Chris Waddell and Greg White.  Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery in Adairesville.

matthew justin mashburn

 

Matthew Justin Mashburn, age 16, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2000 in Union County, Georgia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Matthew was born in Towns County, Georgia, on Sunday, July 22, 1984.  Matthew had lived in this area for all of his life.  He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, and was a student at Union County High School.  He had been preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Logan Mashburn.

Surviving are his parents, Thomas and Peggy Sue Hedgecock Mashburn, of the home; two brothers, Ronnie Laban Mashburn and Thomas Lee Mashburn; a sister, Karen Mashburn of Blairsville; paternal grandmother, Lois Mashburn of Murphy, North Carolina; and maternal grandparents, Laban and Ivalee Hedgecock of Blairsville; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. George Cline and Rev. Luther Thomas officiating.  Special music was presented by The Mashburn Family.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Steve Mashburn, Calvin Mashburn, Eric Lingerfelt, Michael Lingerfelt, Ricky Hedgecock, and Ray Mull.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Craig Beasley and David Hedgecock.  Interment was in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. william lee “bill” colwell

 

Mr. William Lee “Bill” Colwell, age 74, of Tipton, Michigan, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2000 in Lynwood Manor Nursing Home in Adrian, Michigan, following an extended illness.

Mr. Colwell was born in Union County, Georgia on Wednesday August 11, 1913, a son of the late Ketran Colwell and Mattie Burns Colwell.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.  Mr. Colwell had attended Miracle Life Revival Church, in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Surviving are daughter, Sharon Lee Colwell, of Ypsilanti; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dennis Deck of Tipton, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Robert McLaughlin, of Pinckney, Michigan; and daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Michael Garris, of Saline, Michigan; two sisters, Ruth and Mary Colwell, of Blairsville; nine grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law; and one great grandchild also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Pastor James rock officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Baptist Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Tom Greer, Leon Davenport, Dennis Deck, Bob McLaughlin, Henry Markwalter, and Roy Rogers.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Rev. Horace Potts.  Interment was in Colwell Cemetery in Blairsville.
