l.b. collins

 

Mr. L.B. Collins, age 85, of L.B. Collins drive Blairsville, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 in the Union General hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Collins was born on March 26, 1921 in Union County, the son of the late E.S. Collins and the late Oria Souther Collins.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He had served in the CCC Camp.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Ezra and J.T. Collins and a sister, Cora Dover.  Mr. Collins was a member of Track Rock Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Collins are his loving wife of sixty-four years, Jessie Plott Collins of Blairsville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Edith and Charles Murphy of Blairsville, Opal and Ray Young of Blairsville, Nancy Coffey of Rincon, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Nina Collins of Blue Ridge, Frank and Nancy Collins of Blairsville; one sister, Clara Duckworth of Blairsville; twelve grandchildren, William Young, Rita Brown, Dustin Young, Shane Murphy, Steven Murphy, Jason Collins, Matthew Collins, Cory Collins, Sabrina Smith, Shannon Foster, Anthony Baldridge and Lindsey Baldridge; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday December 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wade Plott and Rev. Jerry Young officiating.  Special music was presented by the Track Rock Quarter, Herman Garrett and Trisha Cook.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, William Young, Dustin Young, Shane Murphy, Steven Murphy, Jason Collins and Cory Collins.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Thomas Barry and David Copp.  Interment followed in the Track Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

estelle stringer todd

 

Mrs. Estelle Stringer Todd, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 in Union County Nursing Home, in Blairsville.  Mrs. Todd was born Saturday, January 25, 1919, in Smith County, MS to the late Hines Stringer and Cynthia Atwood Stringer.  She had resided in Ellisville, MS before moving to Blairsville three years ago.  She was a member of West Ellisville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Aaron Ervin Todd, and tow brothers, Dee and Hurston Stringer.

Survivors include: daughter, Sara Valentine of Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Rex and Rosiland Todd of Blairsville; brother, Franklin Stringer of Ellisville; sister, Evelyn Cowan of Aberdeen, MS, grandson, Michael Valentine of Orlando, FL, granddaughters, Michele McBroom of Lawrenceville, GA, Angela Saxon of Seneca, SC, and Holly Cantrell of Jackson, GA; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 10 a.m. from the Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, MS with Rev. David Allen officiating.  Music was provided by Keith McBroom.  Interment was in Ellisville Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Pat Butler, Heath Butler, Larry Brewer, Ricky Simmons, Thomas Lee Todd and Stanley Todd.

alfred ernest dixon

 

Mr. Alfred Ernest Dixon, age 93, of Stable Gate Dr., Blairsville passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 following an extended illness.  Mr. Dixon was born on March 20, 1913 in Hamilton Ontartio Canada, the son of the late Ernest Victor Dixon and the late Ann Sarah Fuller Dixon.  He retired in 1975 from Niagara Mohawk Electric after over forty-two years of service.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Dixon; a brother, Douglas (Bud) Dixon; son, David Dixon.  Mr. Dixon was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Dixon are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dale Allison of Blairsville, Joan and Roy Mons of Walworth, NY; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Deb Dixon of Moline, IL; three grandchildren, Christa Brockway, Stephen Allison, Caleb Dixon, five great-grandchildren, Hope, Grace, Thomas, Nathanel and Joy, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 from the Coosa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating.  The family met with friends following the services at the church.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church in Mr. Dixon’s memory.

clara jane burnett

 

Mrs. Clara Jane Burnett, age 82, of Suches, GA, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at her residence.  Mrs. Burnett was born Saturday, July 5, 1924 in Union County, GA to the late Jim Hood and Ollie Sexton Hood.  She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was preceded in death by daughter, Opal Burnett, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

Survivors include: husband, of 63 years, Dewey Burnett of Suches, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Robert and Joanne Burnett of Suches, GA; daughter, Patricia Burnett of Suches, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Gladys and Bruce Jones of Dahlonega, GA; brother, George Hood of Cleveland, GA; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Lyle officiating.  Music was provided by Kim Gooch.  Interment was in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Bob Williams, Steve Lewis, Danny Burnett, Clay Williams, Zach Williams, Eddie Hood, and Steve Hood.

margaret hensley morgan

 

Mrs. Margaret Hensley Morgan, age 85, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2006 in NorthEast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.  Mrs. Morgan was born Saturday, April 16, 1921 in Jackson County, NC, to the late Jule Hensley and the late Lury Sutton Hensley.  Mrs. Morgan was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Morgan; two brothers, Luther and Marcus Hensley a niece, Martha Raper.

Survivors include: brother, Corbit Hensley of Gastonia, NC; sister-in-law, Mary (Marcus) Hensley, of Blairsville, GA; nieces and nephews: Joy and Willie lackey, of Gastonia; Brenda and Thom Gay, of Blairsville; Elizabeth and Keith Dyer, of Morganton, GA; Jerry and Dot Hensley, of Gastonia; Waymon and Shanna Morgan, of Blairsville; Hoyt (Martha) Raper, of Blairsville; great nieces and nephews: Julie Raper, Michelle Hensley Crunkleton and family; Dawn Hensley, Emma Morgan and Kaitlyn Carter, Michael and Stacy Raper, Roy and Sheena Johnson, Jason Owensby, Christ Hensley; great-great-niece and nephews: Kaley Raper and Michael and Zackery Raper.  Many other family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. R.L. Martin and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was provided by Joe and Julie Gray.    Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Albert Davenport, Jimmy Davis, Michael Brey, Roy Phillips, Thom Gay and Max Cochran.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-8, Monday, December 18.

ernest glenn johnson

 

Mr. Ernest Glenn Johnson, age 65, of Golden Ridge Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Johnson was born on Janauary 17, 1941 in Evanston, IL, the son of the late Else Von Reinsperq Johnson and William Glenn Johnson.  He retired in 2001 from the United Systems and Software Inc. where he served as their Accountant.  Mr. John was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his father, William Glenn Johnson of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas W. and Robin Johnson of Orlando, FL; one sister, Margaret C. Johnson of Clarkston, MI; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 from the funeral home chapel with Dr. Phillip Meeks officiating.  The family met with friends following the services.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Johnson’s memory.

hans frederick pink

 

Mr. Hans Frederick Pink, age 85, of Coosa Run Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 following an extended illness.  Mr. Pink was born on June 26, 1921 in Kiel, Germany, the son of the late August Albert Pink and the late Emma Homann Pink.  He lived in Atlanta from 1953 to 1954 and moved to Big Canoe and lived there until he moved to Blairsville in 1999.  He was a Professional photographer.  Mr. Pink was a veteran of the US Army.  He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Ann Pink in 2002.  Mr. Pink was active as one of Jehova’s Witnesses for over fifty years.

Surviving Mr. Pink are two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and Olivier King of Blairsville, Suzanne may Johnston of Flowery Branch, GA; four grandchildren, former son-in-law, Ron May, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, December 23, 2006 from the Kingdom Hall on paradise Rd. with Rod Scogin officiating.
