mr. charlie claude johnson

 

Mr. Charlie Claude Johnson, age 80, of John Smith Rd. East, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Johnson was born on Aug. 20, 1925 in lake City, SC, the son of the late E.B. Johnson and the late Bertha Mason Johnson.  He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.  He and his wife had made their home in Blairsville for the past twenty years, moving here from Atlanta and had also lived in Castleberry, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.  Mr. Johnson was a member of St. Clare’s Episcopal Church.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his loving wife of sixty years, Barbara Olyott Johnson of Blairsville; two sons, Stephen Alan Johnson of Gainesville, FL, Randy W. Johnson of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the rev. Susan Johnson officiating.  Special music was presented by Susan Johnson and Roy Johnson.  Military Honors were conducted by the North GA Honor Guard.  Visitation at the funeral home was held on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.

mr. ronald eugene garrett

 

Mr. Ronald Eugene Garrett, age 50, of Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at Our Lady of perpetual Help in Atlanta, following an extended illness.  Mr. Garrett was born on June 4, 1955, in Murphy NC, the son of Owen F. Garrett and Edna J. McDonald.  He was a rock mason and a life long resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Ronald Garrett, Jr.  Mr. Garrett was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Garrett are three sisters Pat and husband Kenneth Mayo of Atlanta, Debra and husband Mike Stephens of Blairsville, Susie Densmore of Atlanta; one brother Douglas and wife Kathy Garrett of Atlanta.  Many other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.  Interment followed in the Peachtree Baptist Memorial Cemetery.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, John Barrett, Dewayne Cannon, Mike Stephens, Kevin Mullins, Steven Mayo, Kenneth Mayo and Jesse Garrett.

mr. john edward jones

 

Mr. John Edward Jones, age 83, of Boulder City, Nevada, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2005.  Mr. Jones was born Wednesday, May 10, 1922 in Union County, Georgia to the late Edgar Elbert Jones and Mary Pearl Colwell Jones.  His father was Sheriff of Union County for 28 years, and before that, he had served as an U.S. Marshall.  His grandfather, John W. Jones, had also served as Sheriff of Union County, and had also been an U.S. Marshall.  Edward graduated from Union County High School and attended Young Harris College.  He served in the U.S. navy during WWII from February 19, 1942 until his discharge on September 9, 1946.  Ed enlisted in the Navy and rose to the rank of Ensign JG.  He survived the sinking of his ship, the USS Liedstown, in the Mediterranean off the coast of Algiers.  He served alter in the Pacific Theater, on the USS Massachusetts.  After the war he worked for the U.S. Postal Service briefly before settling in California in 1947.  There he eventually owned his own business.  He was known for his great sense of humor and was much loved by his family.  He was preceded in death by infant brothers, Donald and Dennis, brother, Bobby, sisters, Maxine Moore, Virginia Davenport, Madge Mashburn, Mary Ragsdale and Jessie Sweat.

Survivors include: sister, Barbara Photianos of Blairsville, GA, brother, William Candler Jones of Hemet, CA, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Jones officiating.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were: Ray Rogers, Charles Rogers, Chris Photianos, Stephen Photianos, Adam Irvin, Gary Davenport.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Tuesday, December 20.

Barbara D. Shields October 31, 1932December 17, 2005

Born October 31st, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, one of seven children to Mary and Clement Folmer.  Mom lived most of her life in Naples, Florida and moved to the North Georgia Mountains three years ago when she retired from Wal-Mart.

Preceded in death by: her husband James F. Shields of Blairsville; sisters: Mary and Elmyra; brother, Clement (Buster), John and Edward.

Survived by her sister, Catherine Amaro of Blairsville, her three children and their spouses: Gail and Skip Brehm of Blairsville; Gwen and Randy Hayes of Clermont, Florida; and Clement (Chip) and Julie Shields of Naples, Florida; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Services to be held later this summer.

mrs. marion louise (granny) evans

 

Mrs. Marion Louise (Granny) Evans, age 70, of Triple r Garage Circle, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Evans was born on Aug. 7, 1935 in Ann Arbor, MI, the daughter of the late Stuart Holmes and the late Margarett Maples Evans.  Mrs. Evans owned and operated Granny’s consignment shop in Blairsville for several years.  Mrs. Evans was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Evans are one son, David (Bubba) Evans, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Misty Evans, Penny (Hunt) and David Roane, Peggy and Pete DeJoseph all of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Cathy Holmes of Waco, TX, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Kay and John Adamak of New Mexico, Gail Holmes of New Mexico, other family members include, Brandy Nicholson, George Schmeltz and Holly Albietz, eleven grandchildren, Sheba, Cheyene and Dakota Herr, Billy and his wife Chasidy Schmeltz, Caleb and Dallas Mitchell, Kale and Terakah Evans, Morgan and Courtney Nicholson and Chance Schmeltz, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9-2 prior to the services.

mrs. inez redgrave

 

Mrs. Inez Redgrave, age 84, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Redgrave was born Friday, April 29, 1921 in Madison, FL the late T.S. and Mattie (Humphries) Hampton.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, Order of the Eastern Star #190, Bethany White Shrine and Federation of Woman’s Club of America.  Mrs. Redgrave moved to Blairsville in 2000 from Orlando, FL.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Redgrave, Jr.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, John and Nisia Redgrave III of Blairsville, GA, 5 grandchildren, Charles Earp, Beth Duncan, Jenny Rucker, Jilly Bergeron and John Redgrave IV and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Music was provided by Keith DeFoor and grandson, John.  Interment followed in Arlington Memorial Gardens in Atlanta, GA.

The family received friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.

mr. yul (roy) kuk kim

 

Mr. Yul (Roy) Kuk Kim, age 46, of Mt. Valley Ct., Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Kim was born on April 20, 1959 in Korea, the son of the late Jae Hak Kim and the late Young Ja Shim Kim.  He had made his home in Blairsville for the past seven years.  He was employed at the time of his death by Sun Poultry.

Surviving Mr. Kim are two daughters, In Ae Kim of Atlanta, Sin Ae Kim of Seoul Korea; two sisters, three brothers all of Korea, his fiancée, Yong Deslandes of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steven Kim officiating.  Interment will follow at a later date in Korea.  Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to a favorite charity of your choice in Mr. Kim’s memory.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.

mr. verlin dye

 

Mr. Verlin Dye, age 86, of Cory, North Carolina, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2005 in Rex Nursing Care of Apex, NC, surrounded by his loving family.  He was loved and will be missed by all.

Mr. Dye was born Sunday, October 19, 1919 in Union County, Georgia to the late Sam Dye and Lillie (Barnes) Dye.  He was a WWII Army Veteran and retired from Gregory Poole Equipment of Raleigh after 22 years of service.

Survivors include: wife, Roselene Dye of Cory, NC, daughter & son-in-law, Betty and Glenn Finch of Fuquay Varina, NC, daughter & son-in-law, Brenda and Dan Honeycutt of Apex, NC, son & daughter-in-law, Rodney and Debbie Dye of Angier, NC, daughter, Shirley Dye of Apex, NC, brother and sister-in-law, Vergal and Mary Dye of Brasstown, NC; grandchildren, Sherry, Steven, Becky, Tonya, Shawn, Jason, Tara, Brandon and Chris; great-grandchildren, Shanon, Benjamin, Daniel, Elizabeth, Jessica, Samantha, jasmine, Christopher Wilkie, Amber, Justin, Christopher Lawson, Taylor, Liam and Madelyn Rose.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 22, 2005 at 11 AM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Tony Gilbert officiating.  Music was provided by Troy Phillips Family.  Interment followed in Pine Log Cemetery, Brasstown, North Carolina, with military honors conducted by The North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were: Steven Finch, Shawn Lawson, Jason Dye, William Peebles, Kevin Ennis and Joey Green.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Wednesday, December 21and in North Carolina on Monday, December 19, 2005, at Apex Funeral Home in Apex, North Carolina.
