Mr.
Paul W. Puett, Sr., age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday,
December
27, 2008 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Puett was born Thursday, August 11, 1921
in Union County, GA, to the late Andy Puett and the late Corea Ellis
Puett. A lifelong resident of Union
County, Mr. Puett was a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church.
In addition to farming, Mr. Puett worked for
TVA for over 20 years and also worked as a mail carrier.
Paul was a WWII Army Veteran, having served
in the European Theatre. He was preceded
in death by sisters, Euna Moore and Geneva Perkins.
Surviving
family members include his loving wife, Verna Floyd Puett of
Blairsville;
daughter & son-in-law, carol Lynn and Ed Meyer of Delray Beach, FL;
son
& daughter-in-law, Paul Jr. and Electa Puett of Blairsville; son,
Ronnie
Puett of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter & son-in-law, Paula and Terry
Hooper
of Blairsville; sisters: Viola Presley of Snellville, GA, and Kathleen
Spooner
of Tucker, GA; grandchildren: Steven Meyer, Vanessa Alderson, Matthew
Puett and
Terrell, Terah and Teren Hooper and great grandchildren, Paxton and
Shayne
Meyer and Amelia Alderson. Many nieces,
nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 2PM from the Chapel of
the
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Black and Rev. Jerry Karnes
officiating. Music was provided by Ken
and Elaine Young, Martha Davenport and Michael Thompson.
Interment followed in Ivy Log Baptist Church
Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were the
following gentlemen: Carson Ownbey, Bruce Gray, Harold Atkins, jack
Moore,
Matthew Puett and Steven Meyer.
The family
received friends at the funeral home from 5-8 PM, Monday, December 29.
IN lieu of
flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Ivy Log
Cemetery
Fund or to the Ivy Log Baptist Church Building Fund; c/o Mazie gray,

Log Road, Blairsville, GA 30512.

Mr.
Thurman Chaffin age 89 of Dean Gap Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Wednesday
Dec. 24, 208 in the Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Mr. Chaffin was born on Aug. 20,
1919 in
Gainesboro, TN, the son of the late Darvis Chaffin and the late Ova
Loftis
Chaffin. He was a veteran of the US Army
of WWII and was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM.
Thurman was manager of the City of
Blairsville Water Department for over twenty years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather
and great grandfather. MR. Chaffin
attended Blairsville Church of Christ.
Surviving
Mr. Chaffin are his loving wife of sixty-two years, Iris Nadine Allen
Chaffin
of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bill Parker of
Blairsville, Winnie and Coy Youngblood of Blairsville, one brother,
Hugh
Chaffin of Lewisburg, TN, three grandchildren, Penny Zeger, Scott Hamby
and
Yolanda Rowland, three great grandchildren, Roxanne Zeger, Ashley
Rowland and
Kristena Zeger, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 from the Mountain View
Chapel with
Minister Terry Stuart officiating. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers, David Zeger, Jeff Rowland,
Kenneth
Denson, Scott Hamby, Danny Denson and Lakelan Barham.
Interment followed in the Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery. The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
