MR. clinton andrew droze

 

Mr. Clinton Andrew Droze, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2001 in Union County, Georgia.

Mr. Droze was born in Pickens County, South Carolina, on Monday, July 14, 1924, a son of the late Isaac Andrew Droze and Bertha Jewell Droze.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in World War II.  He was a member of the 272nd Field Artillery Batallion from 1943-1946 and served in the European Theatre.  Mr. Droze attended Charleston Southern University, Rice University, and Wharton University in England.  He worked with National Airlines from 1957-1979, before the company was purchased by Pan-Am.  Mr. Droze retired in 1980, as a general manager.  For the past twenty years, Mr. Droze had made Blairsville his home, moving here from Charleston, South Carolina.  Mr. Droze was active in The Gideons International, being a member for over 40 years.  He held many positions with The Gideons, and served in the Blairsville and Charleston camps.  After moving to Union County, Mr. Droze was employed for many years as a bus driver for Union County Board of Education.  A son, Clinton Andrew Droze, Jr. passed away in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Lewis Droze of the home; his mother, Bertha Droze of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn Droze Garrett and Paul Garrett, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina and Jane Droze Pridgen and Paul Pridgen of Edenton, North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, David Earle and Christina Droze of Charleston and Mark Lenwod and Trysh Droze of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts; brothers, Samuel David Droze of Oceanside California, Charles Droze of Charleston and Robert Droze of Alabama; nine grandchildren, Matthew Droze Garrett, Parker Garrett, David Pridgen, Adam Droze Garrett, Jenna Garrett, Drew Prodgen, Rebekah Droze, Harrison Ziegler Droze, and Verity Droze.  Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 11 am from Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Pridgen and Pastor James Brock officiating.  Special music was presented by Nell Rice and Cindy Ernst.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Matthew and Parker Garrett, David Pridgen, Adam and Paul Garrett, and Mark Ernst.  Serving as honorary escort were all past and current deacons of Faith Baptist Church.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

MR. bernie appel

 

Mr. Bernie Appel, age 52, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, January 22, 2001, in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta.

Born in Germany on Friday, January 21, 1949, Mr. Appel moved to Blairsville from Atlanta eight years ago.  He was a restaurant chef.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dora Lee Anderson Appel, of Blairsville; many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  David Franklin, Kenneth Adams, Tim Rich, Jamie Anderson, Brandon Anderson, and Davey Henderson.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. virge kelley

 

Mr. Virge Kelley, age 89, of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2001.  Mr. Kelley was a lifelong resident of Union County and a member of the Blairsville First Baptist Church.  He was born on April 11, 1911 in Union County, the son of Jake and Mina Rogers Kelley.  Virge had a long and varied career in law enforcement.  After working in the Civilian Conservation corps, he went on to work for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a security officer.  He had also been a Union County deputy and served as sheriff of Union County from 1948 until 1956.  He worked as a security officer for Tennessee Copper Company for 1956 to 1971, and worked as a public safety officer for the Union County School System from 1978 until 1994.  Virge had also been very active in local politics, having served as the chairman of the executive committee of the Union County Democratic Party for many years.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Snow Addington Kelley in 1994.

Survivors include his daughters, Ella Sue Hamby and Betty K Williams, both of Blairsville; sister, Maude Powers of Detroit, MI; grandsons Jim Williams and Tony Hamby, both of Blairsville; and great grandchildren, Blake and Candace Williams and Kristin and Kyle Hamby.  Many other relatives and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 26, 2001 at 2 pm from the Blairsville First Baptist Church with Rev. B.A. Buchanan and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  A eulogy was provided by Sheriff Bill Hutson.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

MRS. katie irene richards kendall

 

Mrs. Katie Irene Richards Kendall, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2001, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Kendall was born in Fannin County, GA, on Saturday, January 21, 1911, a daughter of the late John Henry Richards and Betty Chambers Richards.  She was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Kendall was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Waldon Kendall and her sons, Neal Calvin Kendall, R.H. Kendall, and Roy Ray Kendall.

Survivors include brothers; Howard Richards, of Blairsville; Hubert Richards, of Marietta; Floyd Richards of Palo Cedro, California; Harold Foster, of Marietta; and Arkie Davenport of Dalton GA; sister: Betty Jo Kirby, of Wood-stock, GA; six grandchildren: Jimmy Kendall, of Morganton; Johnny Kendall, of Blairsville; Linda Melton, of Blairsville; Calvin Kendall, of Blue Ridge; Rodney Kendall, of Blue Ridge; and Michael Kendall, of Atlanta; two great grandchildren: Ashley Kendall and Kelsey Kendall; many friends and other relatives also survived.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 29, 2001, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Rodney Kendall, Calvin Kendall, Johnny Kendall, Jimmy Kendall, Sylvan Butt, and Shannon Queen.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
