Park, FL, Miriam and Fred Hull of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Dr. Allen

Hughes of Abbington, VA and Vonda Puckett of Resno, CA; seven grandchildren;

William Nelson, age 82, of

He was elected to the Fort Pierce City Commission. Mr. Nelson served as Chairman of the Draft
Board and the Civil Service Board. He
served on the Fort Pierce Utility Authority and helped with the Salvation Army. He was very active in the

children, Walter W. “Bill” Nelson and his wife, Linda Ross Nelson of Boca
Raton, Florida, and Jo Ann Nelson and her husband, Robert L. Kennerly of
Lawrenceville, Georgia; two grandchildren, Melanie Nelson Torma of Pompano
Beach, Florida and Heather Nelson Wilde, of Okeechobee, Florida; and a sister,
Margaret Barton and her husband, Ilda Barton of Vista, California, and many
cousins, nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Nelson.

services are scheduled for Thursday, March 15, 2001 at 11 am from First United
Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Eddie Herring and Rev. Troy Acree
officiating.

Mrs. Mae
Roberts Acker, age 85, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia,
passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001 in A.G. Rhodes Nursing Home in Atlanta.
Mrs.
Acker was born in Graham County, North Carolina, on Wednesday, Mar 5, 1915, a
daughter of the late Harvey Moore and Annie Sizemore Moore. Although a native or Robbinsville, North
Carolina, Mrs. Acker lived in Blairsville through the years of 1930-1950’s. Mrs. Acker lived in Atlanta for the past 40 years. She had attended Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church in Blairsville. Mrs. Acker was
preceded in death by husband, Daniel Roberts, and husband, George Acker.
Surviving
are daughters, Rosella Townley of Forest Park, Georgia, Jerilean Baugheum of
Madison, Georgia, Betty Little of Snellville, Georgia, Shirley Hendrick of
Morganton, North Carolina; brothers, Daniel Roberts, Jr. and Jimmy Roberts,
both of Alto, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren
and two great great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews and many friends
also surviving.
Graveside
funeral services were held Sunday, March 11, 2001 at 2 pm from Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville with Rev. O.L. McCullough
officiating. Ser-ving as pallbearers
were the following gentlemen: David Ivy, James Lee, P.D. Royal, and Larry
Hendricks. Interment was in Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

richard eugene jacobs, sr.
Mr.
Richard Eugene Jacobs, Sr., age 67, of Lake Drive, Blairsville, passed away on
Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Okeechobee, FL, following an extended illness. Mr. Jacobs was born on August 8, 1933 in
Dixon, IL, the son of the late Henry W. Jacobs and the late Gladys Blackford
Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs was a service station
owner and operator. He was of the
Presbyterian Faith.
Surviving
Mr. Jacobs are one son, Richard Jacobs, Jr of Blairsville; one daughter and
son-in-law, Deborah and Robert Beals of West Palm Beach, FL; three
grandchildren, Ashley and Greg Beals, and Joey Jacobs, many other relatives and
friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2001 at 3 pm from the Jacobs Family
Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Friends and neighbors served as pallbearers
for Mr. Jacobs. Interment followed in
the family cemetery.

Mrs.
Pamela Rice palmer, age 41, of Marietta, formerly of Blairsville, passed away
at her home in Marietta on Monday, March 5, 2001 following an extended
illness. Mrs. Palmer was born on May 6,
1959 in Towns County, the daughter of James Rice and the late Mildred Louise
Conley Rice. She had attended Union
County Schools and had lived most of her life in this area. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her mother,
Mildred Louise Rice in 2000.
Surviving
Mrs. Palmer are a daughter, Heather Smith of La Port, IN; a son and
daughter-in-law, Josh and Trina Rice of new Buffalo, MI; father, Rev. James
Rice of Blairsville; sister, Amy Rice Bowles of Blairsville; brother, Mike Rice
of Korea; four grandchildren, Matthew Volschek, Amber Smith, Gage and Stefan
Rice, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, March 9, 2001 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Rice and Rev. Ray Harper officiating. Special music was presented by Brandon
Davenport and Rev. Shannon Kitchens. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bradley Rice, Johnny Hooper, Cody Bowles, Freddie Rice, Billy Joe Rice,
and Bethel Rice. Nephews served as
honorary pallbearers. Interment followed
in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.
