MRs. willaree q. davenport

 

Mrs. Willaree Q. Davenport, age 72, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, March 16, 2001 at her home, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Davenport was born in Fannin County, GA, on Saturday, December 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Jewel Clifton Pierce and Annie Lee Hood Pierce.  She was a lifelong resident of this area, and was retired from Levi-Strauss Company in Blue Ridge.  Mrs. Davenport was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church, where she was also a choir member.  Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Claud Davenport, in 1999.

Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Stanley of Blue Ridge; son, Eddie Queen of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Chubs Patterson of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Geary and Ginger Queen of Spartanburg, SC; step-daughter, Mildred Cook of Blairsville; step-daughter and her husband, Melba and Tommy Jackson of Blairsville; step-daughter and her husband, Margie and Milton Alexander of Blairsville; step-daughter-in-law, Debbie Davenport of Lawrenceville, GA; step-daughter and her husband Mazie and Bruce Gray; step-daughter and her husband, Martha and Johnny Brackett; step-son and his wife, Gary and Paula Davenport, all of Blairsville; sister and her husband, jean and Cleve Oliver of McCaysville, GA; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. from Youngstown Baptist Church, with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Jonathan Hood officiating.  Special music was presented by Lewis Smith, Ned Wilcoxon, Hoard Brys, Kelley Brewer, and Hank McClure.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jeremy Henderson, Jeffrey Potts, Shannon Carroll, Keith Brewer, Wesley McClure, and Michael Tate.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were: deacons of Youngstown Baptist Church, and Dr. Don Pruitt.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

joshua isaih miller underwood

 

Little Joshua Isaih Miller Underwood, age 5 months, went to be with Jesus on Monday, March 12, 2001 at his home on Boxwood Dr. in Blairsville following a sudden illness.  Joshua was born on Oct. 17, 2000 in Union Co.  He was the son of Jeremiah David Underwood and Dawn Marie Miller.  He was attending New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving Joshua are his parents, Jeremiah Underwood and Dawn Miller of Blairsville; one brother; Gabriel David Underwood of Blairsville; maternal grandparents, John and Katherine Robinett of Blairsville; paternal grandparents, Horace Underwood and Kimberly Owen, both of Blairsville; aunts, Jessica Underwood and Kimberly Owen; uncles, Michael Colwell, Kevin Owen, and Danny Patterson; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 15, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Williams and Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.   The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Robinett, Horace Underwood, Danny Patterson and Michael Colwell.  Interment followed in the Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery.

MRs. Elsie kercher taylor

 

Mrs. Elsie Kercher Taylor, age 73, of Wren Drive, Blairsville passed away on Saturday evening, March 17, 2001, in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Taylor was born on May 26, 1927 in Camden, NJ, the daughter of the late Robert Kercher and the late Alice Bancroft Kercher.

Surviving Mrs. Taylor are loving husband, Leroy Taylor of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Rick Vincent of San Antonio, TX; son, Leroy Taylor, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sons and daughters-in-law, Guy and Brenda Taylor of Ft. Myers, FL, and Larry and Glenda Taylor of Ft. St. Lucie, FL; one brother, William Kercher of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sisters, Anna Jean Rider of York, PA, and Sally Simpson of Delray Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Sommer Taylor, Joshua, Sarah and Phillip Vincent, Michael and Veena Taylor and Hannah Vincent; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mrs. Taylor were held on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at 7 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel.  Giving the eulogy was her husband, Leroy Taylor.  A collection of her favorite hymns were played for the service.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Taylors’ memory.

MR. arne eriksen

 

Mr. Arne Eriksen, age 74, of Bucksnort Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday, March 16, 2001, in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mr. Eriksen was born on March 28, 1926, in Oslo, Norway, the son of the late Erling Eriksen and the late Signe Christiansen Eriksen.  Mr. Eriksen was an army WWII veteran, a member of Sons of Norway, and was a Royal Norwegian yacht Club member.

Surviving Mr. Eriksen are his loving wife, Joyce Vanhorne Eriksen of Blairsville; one daughter, Linda Louise Otey of St. Louis, MO; one son, Erik Eriksen of Ludlo, MA; three grandchildren, Seth Otey,  Solveig and Stephen Eriksen; three nephews; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services and the interment will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the St. Clares Episcopal Church in Blairsville in Mr. Eriksens’ memory.

mr. roland irwin dick

 

Mr. Roland Irwin Dick, age 65, of Stablegate Drive, Blairsville, passed away at his home on early Sunday morning, March 18, 2001, following an extended illness.  Mr. Dick was born on March 15, 1936, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of the late Willia Arthur Dick and The late Geraldine Dick.  Mr. Dick was a member of the Victorious Assembly of God in Murphy, he was an Elder at Clarks Hill Christian Church and was also in a quartet group.  He enjoyed the Civic Theater.

Surviving Mr. Dick are his loving wife of twenty years, Sharon Klinker Dick of Blairsville; one son, Steven C. Dick of Dayton, IN; five daughters; Lisa M. Roudebush of Lafayette, IN, Cheryl D. Kemp of Fairfield, OH, Cindy L. Gates of Lafayette, IN, Linda D. Straley of Chambsburg, PA, and Kathleen A. Mosley of West Memphis, AR; one brother, Norman R. Dick of Brownsburg, IN; twelve grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 22, 2001 from the Chapel of the Stewart-Carroll Funeral Home with the Rev. John Buckley officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Alan Roudebush, Steve Gates, Chuck Mosley, Dewayne Straley, Charlie Kemp, and Brandon Dick.  Interment followed in the Grandview cemetery in Grandview, ILL.
