MR. walter claude king, jr.

 

Mr. Walter Claude King, Jr., age 83, of Old Gum Log Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in the Union General Hospital, following an extended illness.  Mr. King was born on Feb. 3, 1918 in Union County, the son of the late Walter Clinton King, Sr., and the late Maude Caylor King.  He was a WWII veteran of the US Army, a native and lifelong resident of Union Co., and was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. King are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Rose Hughes King of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law: Elizabeth and McCoy Walker of Blairsville; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Charles and Linda King of Blairsville, Tommy King of Blairsville, Hoyt and Linda King of Young Harris; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at 2 p.m., from the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Loys Waters and Rev. Tom Ford officiating.  Special music was presented by Bonnie Henderson, Brenda Hemphill and the Ebenezer Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Dennis, Jimmy Patterson, Gavin King, Derrick, Dennis and Greg Walker.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Ethan Walker and Mr. Kings nephews.  Conducting the graveside services were members of the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mrs. charline plott seay

 

Mrs. Caroline Plott Seay, age 67, of Blairsville, GA. passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA.

Mrs. Seay was born in Union County, on Sunday, May 20, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles and Belle (Chambers) Plott.  She lived in Carlton, GA for 25 years.  Mrs. Seay was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Howell J. Seay in 1994 and daughter Gilda Parham McCool in 1993.

Survivors include: daughter, Rita Kyttle of Blairsville, GA; son: Johnny Parham of Colbert, GA; sisters: Jerald Dean Payne of Dawsonville, GA and Carolyn Taylor of Snellville, GA; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was by the Faith Singers.  Pallbearers were: Matthew Dowdy, Robbie Parham, John Michael Andrews, Conway Casper, Joshua Bishop and Charles Bishop.

MR. sam riley dyer

 

Mr. Sam Riley Dyer, age 88, of Sleepy Hollow Circle, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in the Union General Hospital, following a brief illness.  Mr. Dyer was born on Feb. 27, 1913 in Union County, the son of the late Samuel Riley Dyer and the late Sally Reid Dyer.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union Co. and was a member of Union Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Reid Dyer in 1970 and by a son-in-law, Richard Everett in 1988.

Surviving Mr. Dyer are one daughter: Shelby Everett of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Rachel Dyer of Blairsville, one brother: one brother, Woodrow Dyer of Blairsville; seven grandchildren: Ronnie, Connie, Donnie, and Mark Dyer, Audrey Reynolds, Tammy Matheson and Jayme Dills; eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Benny Nix and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by Hubert and Betty Legg.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Donnie Dyer, Michael Dyer, Danny Matheson, Mark Dyer, Chris Dyer, and Chris Fortenberry.  Interment followed in the Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. dorothy dean cress

 

Mrs. Dorothy Dean Cress, age 75, of Chattanooga, TN passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2001 in Chattanooga.

Mrs. Cress was born in Okolana, MS on Friday, June 4, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles and Linda (Esterline) Ernest.  She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Glenn Herbert Cress in 1988 and a sister Earlene Raigins.

Survivors include: four children: Cynthia Phillips of Hixson, TN, Dean Cress of Souderton, PA, Lola Beaty and Glenn Cress III both of Friendswod, TX; brothers: Rev. Charles Ernest, Sr. of Aberdeen, MS and Ervin Joseph Ernest, Jr. of Woodland, TX; brother-in-law: George Cress of Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Union Memory Gardens with Rev. Wofford Kelley officiating.

mrs. mary s. lamb

 

Mrs. Mary S. Lamb, age 85, of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001 at the Chatuge Regional Hospital.  Coming from Spartanburg, SC, she had lived in the Blairsville area for the past four years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County where she was active in Oasis and was a member of the Bridge Group at the Union County Senior Center.

Survivors include daughter: Rebecca Conkle of Blairsville; sons: William G. Lamb of Portland, OR, Clifton G. Lamb, Jr. of North Ridge, CA, and Herbert L. Lamb of Durham, NC; sister: Helen S. Campbell of New Orleans, LA; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 24, 3 p.m. from The First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 706-379-2484.
