Mr. Virgil Brailsford Harper Jr., age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000 at his home.

Mr. Harper was born Wednesday, September 2, 1908, in Fulton County, GA, a son of Virgil B. Harper Sr., and Annie Laura Simmons Harper.  He moved to this area from Marietta four years ago.  He was a member of Stone Mountain Baptist Church, a Yorkrite Mason, Shriner (Atlanta Yaarab Temple Motor Corps), Elk Lodge #78 and Knights Temple.  He had worked for the Atlanta Journal and was a retired Business Manager 9Local Union 72 of Atlanta Plumbers and Steamfitters Union) and had served with the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Evelynne J. Harper, of the home; daughters, Valarie H. and Paul Johnson, of Lithia Springs, GA and Virgilynne H. and Gene Prewett, of Douglasville, GA, son in law, James F. pate, of Blairsville, GA; granddaughters, Allison B. (Kenny) Durham, and Michelle B. (Tom) Houser, great grandchildren, Andrew M. Jarriel and Hayley P. Houser.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville, GA with Rev. Danny Paris officiating.  Music was provided by Kenneth and Elaine Young.  Graveside services were at 3 p.m. in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Roswell, GA.
