MRS. LILLIE MAE BURNETT REECE

 

Mrs. Lillie Mae Burnett Reece, age 89, of Owltown Road, Blairsville, entered into Heaven on Friday, June 30, 2000 from her home following an extended illness.  She was born on March 31, 1911 in Belltown, TN.  The second of Eleven children and the daughter of the late John Calvin Burnett and the late Alice Seabolt Burnett.  Lillie married her hero, Hoke on March 23, 1930.  She was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church for approximately seventy years, and has also attended the Owltown Church of God.  Lillie had touched many, many lives with her loving and caring Godly ways.  She stood in a parent for her younger siblings due to her parents early death.  Mrs. Reece was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Reece, granddaughter, Terri Sue Jenkins, grandson, Rodney Hoke Wright, daughter in law, Betty Burns Reece, brother, Hurvey and Harley Burnett, sisters, Carrie Fields, Della Dyer, Avie Reece and Bonnie Burnett.

Surviving Mrs. Reece are her loving husband of seventy years, Hoke Reece, of Blairsville; eight children, Vernon Reece, of Woodstock, Everee Hamby, of Adairsville, Verlon Reece, of Marietta, James Reece, of Marietta, Sue Wright, of Ranger, GA, Bobbie Honaker, of Blairsville, Brenda Spiva, of Hiawassee, and Rex Reece, of Rome, GA; one brother, Anceberry Joe Burnett, of Blairsville; three sisters, Mattie Bell Cantrell, of Dahlonega, Naomi Reece, of Augusta, and Lela Stephens, of Blairsville; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 2, 2000 at 3 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Honaker and Rev. James Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by Maria Farley, Nelson and Mildred Lecroy.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stephen Reece, Alan Hamby, Jeffrey Reece, Kevin Reece, Nick Jenkins, Chuck Honaker, Jon Spiva, and Michael Reece.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearer were, Paxton Hamby, Keith Hamby, Byron Spiva, Chris Spiva and Brandon Reece.  Interment followed ;in the Shady Grove Methodist Cemetery.

mrs. jeanette carol murphy turner

 

Mrs. Jeanette Carol Murphy Turner, age 36 of Chaffin Road, Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Monday June 26, 2000 at her home following a sudden illness.  Mrs. Tuner was born on October 13, 1963 in Union County the daughter of the late Gwin Murphy and the late Willie Young Murphy.  Jeanette was a lifelong resident of Union County, and has attended Union Schools, graduating in 1981.  She was preceded in death by her parents and also one brother, Hoyt Murphy in 1943.  She was a member of the Youngstown Baptist Church.

Surviving are her loving husband of sixteen years, Alfred J. Turner of Blairsville; sisters and brother in law, Amalea Owenby, Linda and Charles King, of Blairsville; Dale and Jack Brown, of Blairsville; Evelyn and Bruce Nichols, of Young Harris; brothers and sister in laws, James and Phyllis Murphy, Bobby and Brenda Murphy, Donald and Gearcia Murphy and Danny and Linda Murphy, all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.  Special music was presented by Leon Henderson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Greg Nichols, Dennis King, David Murphy, David Crisp, Merle Fortenberry, Danny Davenport.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Danny Brown, David Dyer, Jackie Cook, Casey Bryson, Michael King, Robert Head and Riley Stephens.  Interment followed in the Union County memory Gardens Cemetery.

MR. HERMAN VINCENT HIERS

 

Mr. Herman Vincent Hiers, age 72, of Mauney Road, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000 at his home.

He was a native and resident for over 65 years of Palm Beach County, Florida and had lived in Sanford, FL., before moving to Blairsville, GA.  He was an appraiser and retired from the Appraisal Department in the County Courthouse in Palm Beach, FL., and was of the Episcopalian Faith.  He was the son of the late Hubert Victor and Ethel Ruth Palmer Hiers.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Post Hiers; one son, David Hiers, of Loxahatchee, GL; tow daughters, Donna Senn and Holly Beattie, both of Blairsville, GA; a brother, Vail Hiers, of Vero Beach, FL; a sister, Elizabeth Alligood, of Moultrie, GA; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 9 a.m., July 8th, 2000 at the Morrison Church Cemetery in Barney, GA.  The Rev. Jesse Alligood officiated.

Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home, Quitman, GA is in charge of arrangements and Townson Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, NC was in charge of local arrangements.

MRS. MARION ELIZABETH ZEGER

 

Mrs. Marion Elizabeth Zeger, age 88, of Dettman Lane, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2000, at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Zeger was born on September 12, 1911 in Mercersburg, PA., the daughter of the late Charles Banner Zimmerman and the late Susan Hanner Cook Zimmerman.  She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund H. Zeger in 1991.  She was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mercersberg.

Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Charles and Joyce Zeger, of Blairsville, one brother, Alfred Zimmerman, of Boonesboro, MD, four grandchildren, Cynthia Ann Smith, of College Park, MD., William R. Zeger, Gregory C. Zeger, and David E. Zeger, all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Lininger and Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA with the Rev. Michael Brendle officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Timothy Smith, William Zeger, Greg Zeger, and David Zeger.  Interment followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

MR. ROBERT H. ARTMIRE

 

Mr. Robert H. Artmire, age 55, of Blairsville,  Georgia passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Artmire was born in Marion County, Indiana.  He was employed as an electronics technician in the theatre business in Florida for 20 years; was the former owner of Manhattan Hardware, Tampa, FL; was a part-time employee of Campbell Municipal Airport, Copperhill, TN, in 1996-97 then became manager at Blairsville Municipal Airport from 1997-98.  Bob was an excellent pilot and enjoyed anything to do with airplanes.  He attended St. Catherine Laboure’, Copperhill, TN.  Mr. Artmire was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Artmire, in 1991.

He is survived by extended family members, Nedda Hough, of Blairsville, Stuart Hough, of Easley, SC; Martin Hough, of Tampa, FL; Amy Hill, of Trinity, NC; Joe W. Hough, III, of Clearwater, FL; St. Louis Hough, of Germany; Mary More, of St. Petersburg, FL; and Dennis Hough, of Greenville, AL.  Many friends also survive.

A Memorial Mass was held on Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church, Blairsville, GA.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of NE. GA PO Box, 586, Clayton, GA or to the American Cancer Society.

Interment will be in Batesville, Indiana at a later date.

MRS. MARGARET ELIZABETH “MARGIE” CARVER JACKSON

 

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth “Margie” Carver Jackson, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, August 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Jess Carver and Frances Huffman Carver.  She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.  Mrs. Jackson was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Jackson of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law Jackie Jackson Caldwell, and Larry Caldwell, of Suwanee, Georgia; granddaughter and her husband Clarissa and Troy Bradham of Dunwoody, Georgia; special nephew and his wife, Darron “Corky” and Jan Nichols of Blairsville; great great nephews, Jess and Carver Nichols of Blairsville; brother, Chan Carver of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; many other nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 7, 2000 at 11 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Vernon Davenport and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Steve Carver, Harold Crump, Jerry Martin, Steve Kimsey, David Cox, and Willard Fairley.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Quinton Holbrooks.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

MR. RICHARD EARL RAHN, SR.

 

Mr. Richard Earl Rahn, Sr., of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Rahn was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania, on Friday, December 4, 1925, a son of the late John Henry Rahn and Helen Louise Glover Rahn.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Airborne Division, and served during WW II.  Mr. Rahn was a paratrooper in Germany during The Battle of the Rhine.  For his military service, he received a Purple Heart.  Mr. Rahn retired from the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Florida.  He had lived in Blairsville for the past four years, moving here from St. Petersburg, Florida.  Mr. Rahn was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel G. Rahn, in 1994.

Survivors include his mother, Helen L. Rahn, of St. Petersburg; five children, Sandra Rahn Benz, of Evanston, Illinois; Richard E. Rahn, Jr., of Bartow, Florida; Lynne Stokkeland, of Hiawassee, Georgia; Bill Rahn, of Hickory, North Carolina; and Brenda Rahn, of Blairsville; a brother, William H. Rahn, of Brooksville, Florida; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

In you wish, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society or the Georgia Mountains Hospice, PO Box 667, Jasper, Georgia 30143.
