MR. WILLIAM THOMAS KENDRICK

 

Mr. William Thomas Kendrick, age 61, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2000 at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Kendrick was born on Thursday, June 15, 1939, in Rock castle County, Kentucky, a son of the late Henry P. Kendrick and Elizabeth Kirby Kendrick.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Mr. Kendrick had lived in the Blairsville area for the past 16 years, moving here from Florida.  He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Faith Poling Kendrick, of the home; three children: Hope Swanson, of Virginia; Christian Wisson, of Florida; Elisabeth Murphy, of Blairsville; sisters, Louise Wilson, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Judy Bowman, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; brothers: Robert Kendrick, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, James Kendrick, of Sparks, Florida; and Amos Kendrick, of Richmond, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Kyle Swanson, and Michael Swanson, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville.  Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Evan Hughes officiated.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mike Jones, Brad Sherman, Doug Colwell, Wayne Aaron, Scott Payne, and Joel Payne.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.

MRS. LULA VICTORY SEABOLT BURNS

 

Mrs. Lula Victory Seabolt Burns, age 91, of Elisha Payne Circle, Blairsville, passes away on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Burns was born on September 20, 1908 in Union County the daughter of the late John Seabolt and the late Ira Jones Seabolt.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  Mrs. Burns was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Burns, in 1970 and two brothers, Lloyd and Dewey Seabolt.

Surviving Mrs. Burns are one son and daughter in law, Ted and Cheryl Burns, of Blairsville, one sister, Effie Colwell, of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Johnny, Joey, Tiea Burns, and Tonya and Jason O’Neal, several great grandchildren many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers were:  G.L. Franklin, Craig Davenport, Gerald Burns, Don Bullox, Mark Burrell, and James Burrell.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens.

MRS. CARRIE BALLARD JONES

 

Mrs. Carrie Ballard Jones, age 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, July 14, 2000 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Jones was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, March 16, 1908, a daughter of the late John Ballard and Emma Hedden Ballard.  She was a homemaker and was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mrs. Jones was a member of Liberty Hill Methodist Church.  Mrs. Jones had been preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Jones, in 1987, and a grandson, Benny Jones, in 1980.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ervin and Joyce Jones of Blairsville; grandchildren, Terry Jones, Trudy Smith and Keith Jones, all of Blairsville; great grandchildren, Billy Jones, Brycen Jones, Brannon Jones, Melinda Groves, Jessica Jones, Hunter Smith, Emma Smith, Hayden Smith, Shelly Jones, Kyle Jones; great great grandchildren, Morgan, Mallory and Brice Jones, Dustin and Tylan Jones, and Dawson Groves.  Many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 16, 2000 at 2 pm from Faith Baptist Church with Pastor James Brock, and Rev. Billy Joe Jones officiating.  Special music was presented by The Nichols Family.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Terry Jones, Keith Jones, Tony Smith, Darren Groves, Billy Jones, and Stanley Crisp.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Brannon Jones.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. FRANCIS NEWTON (NEWT) DYER

 

Mr. F. N. (Newt) Dyer, age 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away, Monday, July 10, 2000 following a brief illness.  Mr. Dyer was born in Union County, March 12, 1908, the son of Andrew and Margaret Craig Dyer.  Mr. Dyer was a life long resident of Union County.  He was a veteran of WW II, retired from the Forestry Service and a farmer.  He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eula Mae Dyer, of Blairsville, GA; brother, Lester Dyer, of Blairsville, GA, nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Zion United Methodist Church.  Rev. Vicky McVay and Rev. Fred Whitley officiated.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Special music was provided by Mrs. Sara Kelley.  Pallbearers were:  William Bradley, Don Chapman, Harold Dyer, Harold Shuler and Clyde Shuler.
