Mrs. Rita
Garcia Stroud, age 83, of Gearind Drive, Murphy Hwy, Blairsville passed away on
Thursday, July 27, 2000 in the Copperbasin Hospital following an extended
illness. Mrs. Stroud was born on

Mrs. Stroud are her loving husband of fifty eight years, J. W. Stroud of Blairsville;
daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Van Tredaway of Marietta; daughter,
Melanie Wakefield of North Virginia, VA; one sister, Alverda Trutel of
Pennsicola, FL; one brother, Fritz Garcia of Clearmont Harbour, MS; seven
grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Ginger Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Charlotte Long, Amber Wilson and Josh Wilson;
great grandchildren are Kolby Long, Logan, Karlie and Graylee Wilson, Chad and
Tatum Vance.

services were held at 2 pm Saturday, August 5, 2000 from the chapel of Cochran
Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Guy Bradley officiating. Music was by Louise DeLong, Susie Phillips,
and Sarah Kelley.
Interment
was in the Hamptown Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Madge Lee Stephens, age 70, of
Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, August 4, 2000 at Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Stephens was born in Towns
County, GA May 30, 1930, a daughter of Harvey J. and Eula Arrendale
Nicholson. She lived in this area all of
her life and was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. She was an Avon salesperson for twenty-five
years. Her husband, Jimmy J. Stephens,
receded her in death in 19831 and a grandson, Stephen England, in 1973.
Surviving are her children, Larry
and Sharon Stephens, Gary and Leslie Stephens, and Linda and Jimmy Jones, all
of Blairsville; a sister, Faye Nichols; three brothers, Vaughn, F.C., and Rex
Nicholson also survive along with six grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm
Sunday, August 6, 2000 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville, GA
with Rev. Clyde Coleman and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Music was provided by Nelson LeCroy. Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers were Ryan
England, Corey Stephens, Phil and Anthony Nichols, Randolph Jones and Milo
Fox. Wesley England and Blane Stephens
were honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Mary Lou Vandiver Whitt, age
64, of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at Union General
Hospital.
Mrs. Vandiver was born in Union
County, Wednesday, October 30, 1935, a daughter of Paul and Iowa Collins
Vandiver. She had lived in this area all
of her life and was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband,
John C. Whitt.
Survivors include a daughter,
Paulette and Aubrey Dyer of Blairsville; a son, Troy Whitt of Blairsville; a
sister, Alwayne and AJ. Wimpey of Blairsville; and one granddaughter, Katie
Danielle Dyer.
Funeral services were held Friday,
August 4, 2000 at 2 pm from the Old Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Harley
Hunter and Rev. Jerry Young officiating.
Music was provided by the church choir.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were A.J. Collins, Calvin Dyer, Duane Dyer, John England, Lance
Bell and Johnny Brown.

Mr. John
Harold Parham, age 68, of Blairsville, GA passed away at his home Friday,
August 4, 2000.
Mr. Parham was born in Union County
march 17, 1932 and lived in this area most of his life. He was a son of Herschel and Etta Styles
Parham. He was a member of Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church and a county employee in road maintenance. His daughter, Gilda McCool, preceded him in
death
Survivors include a daughter, Rita
Kyttle of Blairsville; a son, Johnny Parham of Colbert, GA; sisters, Evelyn
Deyton and Hazel Doolittle of Blairsville and Bernice Gibby of Athens, GA;
brothers, Herbert Parham of Blairsville and Bermer Parham of Athens, GA; five
grandsons also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
August 6, 2000 at 4 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray
Potts and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.
Music was by Kim Thomas and Scott Lance.

MRS.
GERALDA CARLEEN KING BURNETTE
Mrs. Gerald Carleen King Burnette,
age 62, of Berry Road, Blairsville, passed away on Friday August 4, 2000 in the
Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Burnette was born on April 8, 1938 in
Fitzgerald, GA the daughter of the late Carrol King and the late Libby Posey
King. She was a member of the Harvest
Fellowship Church in Young Harris.
Surviving Mrs. Burnette are her
loving husband of thirty six years, Wilton “Shorty” Burnette of Blairsville;
daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Donny Trumbo of Camp Lejune, NC; son and
daughter-in-law, Terry and Faye Burnette of Blairsville; sister and brother
–in-law, Kathryn and Ray Lazano of Warner Robins, GA; brothers and
sister-in-laws, Bobby and Cathy King of Atlanta and Tommy and Mary King of
Young Harris; ten grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Services for Mrs. Burnette were held
on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at 1 pm from Union Memory Gardens with the Rev.
Mike Youngblood officiating. Grandsons served
as pallbearers. Interment following in
the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

William
Lee Holt, Sr. was born in Union County, Sunday, February 26, 1933, a son of
Mary Curtis Holt and the late Guss Holt.
He passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2000 after a long-time illness.
He was a Ford dealer for many years
and owner of panorama Land Company. He
was a member and captain of Zamora Shrine Temple Motor Corp when he moved from
Birmingham back home to Blairsville in 1969.
He was also a member of Woodlawn Masonic Lodge of Birmingham and
remained a member of the Zamora Temple Shrine Club of Birmingham.
Lee was a member of Shady Grove
United Methodist Church where he served as trustee and a member of other committees.
Lee is survived by his wife of 44
years, Nan Craven Holt of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tina of
Blairsville; mother, Mary Curtis Holt of Blairsville; and a host of family
members and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday,
August 4, 2000 at 11 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan
Seawright, Rev. Dean head, and Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating. Music was provided by Nelson and Mildred
LeCroy. The eulogy was presented by
Floyd Neely, past Potentate and member of Zamora Temple Shrine Motor Corp of
Birmingham, Alabama.
Interment was in Shady Grove United
Methodist Church Cemetery with Carlton Colwell, Bob Head, jack Lance, Harold
Plott, John Snow and Charles Partin serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requested that donations be sent to the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery

Mr. Robert Michael Little, age 41,
of Trinity Place, Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at his
home following an extended illness. Mr.
Little was born on December 30, 1958 in Norwich, CT, the son of Robert H.
Little and Irene Bulcko Little. Mr.
Little was of the Lutheran Faith.
Survivors include his loving wife,
Deborah Olds Little, of Blairsville, father and mother, Robert and Irene
Little, of Blairsville, three children, Benjamin W. Little, Stephen and Sharon
Demeo, one sister, Kathryn L. Mundt, of Littleton, CO., many other relatives
and friends also survive.
Services for Mr. Little were held on
Monday, August 7, 2000 at 11:30 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Black Gooch officiating. In lieu of
