MISS CYNTHIA KAY (BUG) DEYTON

 

Miss Cynthia Kay (Bug) Deyton, age 19, of N. Mauney Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2001, in the Earlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga following injuries received in a motorcycle accident.  Miss Deyton was born on July 20, 1982 in Commerce, GA the daughter of Anthony Deyton and Judy Sargent Deyton.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County and had attended all twelve years in the Union Co. School System.  She was a 2001 graduate.  Miss Deyton was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving Miss Deyton are her parents: Anthony and Judy Deyton of Blairsville; one sister and brother in law: Tonya and Ken Ensley of Blairsville; one brother and sister in law: Donnie and Tabatha Poplar of Murphy, NC; paternal grandparents: Bernice and Opal Deyton of Blairsville; maternal grandparents: Ben and Louise Sargent of Jefferson, GA; maternal great grandfather: Manual Whisnant of Jefferson; nieces and nephews: Katelyn, Blake and Andrew Ensley, and John Anthony Poplar; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steve Whisnant officiating.  Many of Cynthia’s favorite songs were presented.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Christopher Deyton, Zyndall Sims, Phill Whisnant, Paul Kimbrell, Andy Sargent and David Dockery.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery.

MRS. mary leona jackson puett

 

Mrs. Mary Leona Jackson Puett, age 96, of Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville, GA, formerly of Young Harris, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2001, in Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Puett was born in Union County, on Oct. 10, 1904, a daughter of the late Thomas Kimsey and Mary Catherine (Collins) Jackson.  She was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church.  Mrs. Puett was preceded in death by her husband, James McKinley Puett, son, Jim Puett and grandson, Tommy Puett.

Survivors include: sons: Horace Puett of Akron, OH, Bill Puett of Knoxville, TN and Ray Puett of Blairsville, GA; daughters: Sue Greene of Clarkesville, GA, Elinor White of Young Harris, GA, Margie Smith of Auburn Heights, MI, Vada Hyten of Wateraford, MI and Becky Garrett of Murphy, NC; twenty-nine grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, 2001, at 7:30 p.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating.  Music was by Rosalie Devane.  Pallbearers were grandsons.  Interment was in Old Brasstown Baptist Cemetery.

RICHARD WILLARD YOUNG

 

Richard Willard Young, 63, the son of the late Frank and Delia Young, went to be with God on August 31, 2001.  He was born on February 10, 1938 in Blairsville, GA.  He came to NC in 1950.  He was the owner of Richard Young Timber Company, Inc. and was in the timber and logging business for 47 years.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfathers, uncle and friend.

He was predeceased by his three sisters:  Nancy Louise Meadows, Mary Blanche Fincham, and Clara Jo Woodall; two brothers:  James Elbert Young and Larry John Young; and a grandson, Robert Michael Joseph Young.  

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Emma Ball Young; a son, Robert W. Young and wife Cindy Young of Fuquay-Varina; a daughter, Rhonda Young Tilley and husband Weldon Tilley of Wake Forest; a grandson, Joshua Morgan Young of Fuquy-Varina; and two granddaughters: Elyse Nicole and Alyson Brooke Tilley of Wake Forest.

He also has many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  He also is blessed with many special cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.  Richard has many special friends, surrogate children and surrogate grandchildren.  He will be remembered by many as a very giving person with a smile that would light a whole room and the personality to make anybody laugh and smile.  He loved life, fishing, bowling and classic cars.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Home Health and Hospice Care, Inc.; Kitty Askins Hospice Center; 2402 Wayne Memorial Dr.; Goldsboro, NC 27534, a great organization that was a blessing to Richard and the family.  They can also be made to Richard’s church, Cokesbury United Methodist Church; 6678 River Rd.; Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 or any other organization that is special to your heart.

The funeral service was held Monday, September 3, 2001, at First Methodist Church, 402 N. Main St., Fuquay-Varina at 2 p.m.  Interment was at Cokesbury United Methodist Church cemetery, 6678 River Rd., Fuquay-Varina.

Mrs. uneko fukuda marcell

 

Mrs. Umeko Fukuda Marcell, age 65, of Holly Hill Road, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2001, at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Marcell was born on March 1, 1936, in Fukuoka, Japan, the daughter of the late Takeo Fukuda and the late Yasuno fukuda.  She had lived in Union County since 1988  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Marcell in 1995.  Mrs. Marcell was a member of St. Clares Episcopal Church.

Surviving Mrs. Marcell are one daughter and son-in-law: Sumiko and Bill Gross of Cardiff by the Sea, CA., and one son: Thomas Marcell of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services for Mrs. Marcell were held on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Clares with Rev. Susan Johnson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to SAFE, P. O. Box 11, Blairsville, GA, 30514, or to the Humane Society Mtn. Shelter of Blairsville.
