Richard
W. Young, 63, the son of the late Frank and Delia Young, went to be with God on

predeceased by three sisters, Nancy Louise Meadows, Mary Blanche Fincham, and
Clara Jo Woodall; two brothers, James Elbert Young and Larry John Young; and a
grandson, Robert Michael Joseph Young.
He is
survived by his wife of forty-four years, Emma Ball Young; a son, Robert W.
Young and wife, Cindy Young of Fuquay-Varina; a daughter, Rhonda Young Tilley
and husband, Weldon Tilley of
He also
has many special nieces; nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and
great-great-nieces and nephews. He also
is blessed with many special cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Richard has many special friends, surrogate
children and surrogate grandchildren.
He will
be remembered by many as a very giving person with a smile that would light a
whole room and the personality to make anybody laugh and smile. He loved life, fishing, bowling and classic
cars.

Smith Reece, age 93, of Owltown Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday,
Sept. 6, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Reece was born on

Ruth Adel
Eichholz, age 74, passed away August 10, 2001.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio and resided in Jacksonville, FL for three
years, formerly of Blairsville, GA. Mrs.
Eichholz was a homemaker and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Carl P. Eichholz in 1992.
Survivors
include three sons, Kenneth P. and his wife, Pamela Queen Eichholz, R. David
Eichholz and Billy and his wife, Mary Eichholz of Blairsville, GA; nine grandchildren
and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Bill Calkins and a sister, Norma Jean
Smith and her husband Jerry Smith. Her
remains will be buried along side her husband at Holly Hills Veterans Park
Cemetery, Blairsville, Saturday, September 15th at 10 am.

Mr. Samuel
Eugene Moore, Jr., age 87, of Stonehenge, Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, passed away
on Sunday morning, Sept. 9, 2001 at his home following an extended
illness. Mr. Moore was born on Sept. 24,
1913 in Toledo, OH, the son of the late Samuel E. Moore, Sr. and the late Anna
Weber Moore. He was preceded in death by
two wives: Gertrude Dupper Moore in 1973 and Maud Wallen Moore in 1995; three
brothers: Joe, Will and Harvey Moore; two sisters: Louella Cashel, Florence
Mabrey; Grandson: Bryan Lowery. Mr.
Moore attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Murphy.
Surviving
Mr. Moore are one daughter and son-in-law; Helen and Marvin Lowery of Murphy;
one granddaughter; Michelle Lowery of Athens, TN; one great granddaughter;
Jennifer Lowery of Tampa, FL; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial
services will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2001 at 4 p.m. from the Seventh
Day Adventist Church in Murphy with Pastor Richard Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial
Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL In lieu
of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to The
Helping Hands Day Program P.O. Box 1346, Andrews, NC, 28901 in Mr. Moors’

BARRETT HOOPER TWIGGS
Faye
Hooper Twiggs passed away on September 10, 2001, following a period of
declining health. Mrs. Twiggs was born
in Hiawassee, GA, on June 1, 1910, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James L.
Hooper, Sr. She married Ralph J. Twiggs,
Sr. of Hiawassee, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Twiggs. The Twiggs’ family moved to Blairsville in
1937. Mrs. Twiggs owned and operated the
first beauty shop in Blairsville from 1917 to 1944. Mr. Twiggs owned and operated Ralph Twiggs Motor Company from 1939 until
his retirement in 1961.
Mrs.
Twiggs was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, joining in
1939. She was a long time member of
Blairsville Chapter #304, Order of the Eastern Star, receiving a lifetime
membership certificate in 1976. She
became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
(NSDAR) in 1965, and was for many years a member of the Atlanta Chapter,
NSDAR. In 1997, she became an organizing
and charter member of the Old Unicoi Trail Chapter, NSDAR, in Young Harris, GA.
Surviving
Mrs. Twiggs are her son, State Representative, Ralph J. Twiggs, Jr., of
Hiawassee, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Leon Davenport of Blairsville,
sister, Sara Hooper Carswell of Seattle, Washington; granddaughter and husband,
Cayce and David Friedly; grandson and wife, Ralph Douglas and Delia Davenport
of Blairsville; grandson and wife Joseph and Havalyn Hensley of Atlanta;
granddaughter and husband, Mary Elizabeth and Terry Wright of Hiawassee;
granddaughter, Barbara Connice Twiggs of Hiawassee; great grandchildren, Patricia
Taylor Hensley and Ralph Elliott Twiggs Hensley of Atlanta, sisters-in-law,
Gladys C. Twiggs of young Harris and Mary R. Hooper of Hiawassee; and many
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs.
Twiggs was preceded in death by her husband in 1973, and by her
daughter-in-law, Lucille B. twigs, in 1999.
The
funeral service was held Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at First Baptist Church
of Blairsville. Officiating were Rev.
Danny parries and Rev. Troy Acree. Music
was provided by Terry Hooper.
The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jimmy Hooper, Charles Jenkins, Larry
Kimsey, Wally Moore, John Twiggs, and Larry Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Logan
Barrett, Carlton Colwell, George Gowder, M.D. Douglas Hedden, Ed Jenkins, Ray
Rogers, Lamar Twiggs, and Randy Zimmerman.
Members of the Old Unicoi Trail Chapter, NSDAR served as honorary
escorts.
Interment
was in the Osborn Cemetery in Hiawassee, GA.
