MR. william h. “jake” hogan

 

Mr. William Howell “Jake” Hogan, age 78, of Blairsville, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta on Monday evening, September 8, 2003.

Mr. Hogan was born in Walton County, GA., Sunday, April 26, 1925, a son of Foster and Drew Willie Everett Hogan.  He had lived in this area since 1985, moving here from Walton County.  He was a member of Blairsville First Baptist Church, Blairsville Kiwanis Club, Allegheny Lodge #114 F&AM, Blairsville Chapter #304 Eastern Star and was an Air Force Veteran.  He was preceded in death by a son, William H. “Billy” Hogan, in 1968.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Hogan, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Jason Armsden of Dawsonville, GA; a brother, John Hogan of Social Circle, GA; a sister, Hazel Hogan of Mt. Dora, FL; two grandchildren, Ryan and Kimberly Tinsley; other relatives and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 22, 2003 at the Blairsville First Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Acree and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Music was by the Faith Singers.  Masonic Rites were presented by the Allegheny Lodge #114 F&AM Lodge.

Serving as Pallbearers were Tim Heard, Elliott Hill, Johnie Garmon, Carl Bonham, Neil Moon and Bob Garrison.  Honorary escorts were members of the Blairsville Kiwanis Club, Masons and Eastern Star and members of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

miriam ernestine brackett

 

          Mrs. Miriam Ernestine Brackett, age 89, of the Old Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville, GA., passed away on Friday, September 12, 2003, in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Brackett was born on May 28, 1914 in Fannin County.  The daughter of the late Arthur Rector and the late Kate Davis Rector.  She was life long resident of Union County, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the New Union Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lake Brackett, in 1991.

            Surviving Mrs. Brackett are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Carolyn Brackett of Blairsville, Johnny and Martha Brackett of Blairsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Harold Dolph of Smyrna, GA., Judy and Kenneth Bryant of Marietta, GA; one sister, Helen French of East Point, GA., sister-in-law, Dola Rector of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Dwain Brackett, Stephanie Hilderbrand, Doug Brackett, Kevin Dolph, Allison Hall, Brittany Russell, Charity Arrowood and Ashleigh Brant; a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Hood and Rev. Snyder Turner officiating.  Special music was presented by Snyder Turner and Bonnie Cochran.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Dwain Brackett, Kevin Dolph, Douglas Brackett, Robert Hilderbrand, Shane Hall, Alberto Angel, Ben Hilderbrand and Jake Hilderbrand.  Interment followed in the Liberty Hill Methodist Cemetery.

            Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

elena nix collins

 

            Mrs. Elena Nix Collins, age 83, of Blairsville, GA., passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in Union General Hospital.

            Mrs. Collins was born in White County, GA., on June 20, 1920, a daughter of the late Etna and Irene (Underwood) Nix.  She was a member of Blairsville First Baptist Church and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.  Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband Neal Collins.

            Surviving are two daughters, Jo Neal Ward of Lake City, FL., and Kay Beaver of Blairsville, GA; sisters, Lee Stovall of Greensboro, NC., Mary Kinter of Jonesboro, GA., and Evelyn Worley of Ellijay, GA; four grandchildren, Daryl Sargent and Cassi Giebeig, both of Lake City, FL., Dana Beaver of Blairsville, GA and Hank Beaver of Suwanee, GA.

            Funeral services were held on Friday, September 12, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Blairsville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bethel Buchanan and Rev. Danny parries officiating.  Music was by the church.  Pallbearers were Kermit Adams, Ronnie Nix, Bob Worley, Daryl Sargent, Hank Beaver and Eddy Hood.  Interment was in Union Memory gardens.

            Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

horace L. colwell

 

            Mr. Horace Luther Colwell, age 89, of Blairsville, passed away on Saturday morning, September 6, 2003 in Union General Hospital

            Mr. Colwell was born in Union County on Thursday, April 16, 1914, a son of Luther and Iva Morgan Colwell.  He lived here all of his life and was a farmer.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years.

            Mr. Colwell was preceded in death by a son, Vaughn Colwell, a brother, Frank Colwell, and two sisters, Docia Hunter and Fannie Rich.

            Survivors include his wife of almost 68 years, Edna Shope Colwell, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Haskin and Austine Colwell, son and daughter-in-law, Reid and Dora Colwell and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Colwell, all of Blairsville; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Monday, September 8, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Davenport and Rev. Jerry Young officiating.  Music was provided by the Faith Singers.

            Service as active Pallbearers were Trannis Colwell, Joe Colwell, Toby Swartz, Earl Sullivan, Rufus Everett and Ronnie Adams.  Honorary Pallbearers were Wayne Colwell, Charles Hughes, Edgar Mason and Wayne Everett.  Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant #1 Church Cemetery.

            Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of local arrangements.
