Mr.
Jewell G. Mason, age 96, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
September 13, 2000 in Union County Nursing Home.
Mr. mason
was born in Union County, on Thursday, July 28, 1904, a son of Charles “Bud”
and Mary Jane Cobb Mason. He was a
farmer, a teacher at Mt. Pleasant and Provident schools, owner-operator of a
sawmill for many years, and most recently, a land developer. Mr. Mason was a member and past master of the
Young Cane Masonic Lodge #597 F&AM and Blairsville OES. He was a member of Providence Methodist
Church where he was Sunday School Superintendent, taught the adult Sunday
School Class, and was head steward for many years. He was very active in the music program and
sang bass with the Providence Quarter.
Mr. Mason
is survived by his wife of 66 years, Myrtle Everett Mason, of Blairsville; son,
Worth and Irma Mason, of Blairsville; a daughter, Barbara and Paul Poole, of
Blairsville; a sister, Donnie Young, of Blairsville; three grandchildren and a
host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2000, from the Provident
United Methodist Church with Rev. John Kay and Rev. David Clay officiated. Graveside rites were by Young Cane Masonic
Lodge. Interment was in the church
cemetery.
Serving
as pallbearers were Charles Mason, Baxter Mason, Curtis Young, Wade Mason,
Arlen Everett, Rufus Everett and Wilson Cobb.

Mrs.
Rowena McClure Brown, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
September 13, 2000 in Union County, Georgia.
Mrs.
Brown was born in Union County, on Sunday February 17, 1924, a daughter of the
late Virgil McClure and Iowa Elliott McClure.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Brown was a member of Bethlehem Baptist
Church. She had been preceded in death
by her husband, Audie Brown, in 1974.
Surviving
are three daughters and sons-in-law: Diane and Richard Patterson, Shirley and
Rex Odom, and Judy and Dean Saxon, all of Blairsville; a sister, Wanda Clement,
of Blairsville, and a brother, Don McClure, of Atlanta; seven grandchildren:
Angela Maxwell, Katrina Cox, Jeffrey Odom, Greg Odom, Lori Bergen, Deana
Burnette, and Derek Saxon; seven great grandchildren, Joshua Bergen, Brooklyn
Bergen, Brittany Odom, Tyler Odom, Zachary Odom, Kaitlyn Odom and Kameron Odom,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, September 15, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Black officiating. Special music was presented by Lonnie McClure. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jeff Odom, Greg Odom, Lanier McClure, Tony Ledford, Chris Bergen,
Jamie Burnette, and Gary Cox. Interment
was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
