My ancestor is listed on the 1830 census for Upson County, but I can't find any Deed in Upson County?
There are several places to check.
- See above to determine if he was successful in the lottery, and IF he paid the fee and was issued a Grant.
- Check Pike County. For a few years (1822-1824), this land was in Pike County. See History of Land in Upson County
- Check the Land Lottery for 1827. Many residents of Upson County were successful in that drawing.
The list on page 93-122 The Early History of Upson County gives the Land District Number of each man on the list. In some instances these are GMD, the Military Districts using the Captain's name, i.e. Harrell's. See lists GMDs of Upson County.
- I don't understand some of the terms used in this deed?
Explanation of terms used in Deeds. You'll find this very helpful in reading the deeds you locate on your ancestors.
