Near Thomaston, Upson County, Ga, Sept. 23, 1911- handwritten
To the United Daughters of the Confederacy:
The undersigned residing Near Thomaston in Upson Co.
Ga., WHO is the(OLDEST) SON of James W. Bentley, a
confederate Soldier, hereby presents this
Certificate of Eligibility for a Southern Cross of
Honor. My FATHER entered the service of the
Confederate States on the ___ day of JULY 1861 as a
PRIVATE in COMPANY D of the 13th Georgia Regiment
of Georgia Volunteers, Infantry, C.S.A. and was at
that time a resident of Thomaston, Upson Co. Ga. And
was honorably discharged from said service by
Surrender on the 9th day of April 1865, at which he
held rank of private. He died 18, November 1876 in
Upson, Ga.
