Records found at the Ga. Archives (Family Folder) show John was not only brave to a fault but that his services were of "Long continuance and his suffering excessive." Very shortly after entering the Army he was deprededid (?) with others to the performance of a perlious duty in which he was deserted by his companions and left to execute the order alone, which he did to the admiration and astonishment of all. For this act of intripedity and fidelity the Government tendered him the Lt. in the regular forces which he modestly declined on the ground that he was too young and inexperienced to assume the responsibilities of the station being at this time only eventeen years old. He served under General Marion and Pickens attached to the Batallion of the latter; was at Battle of Eataw and Cowpens, seige of Augusta and several other engagements. Once he was taken a prisoner but made escape from Camp of Cornwallis, rescuing at the same time one of his cousins. He was twice wounded during the war by the British and once by the Indians. 1799 (and this same handwritten episle) Jones County Georgia Military -

Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia - Vol 6, pg 352 1861-1865
Enlisted as a Private in Co. A, 20th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry Aug 15, 1862.
Transferred to Co. D. Jan. 10, 1863. Appointed 4th Corporal Feb. 1864.
Transferred to Co. I, 62d Regiment Georgia Infantry; to (New) Company I, 8th Regiment Georgia Cavalry Oct. 25,1864.
Roll dated Dec. 31, 1864, last on file, shows him on detail to procure remount since Nov. 19, 1864. His horse was shot out from under him. Paroled at Thomasville, GA. May 19, 1865."

World War II

LORD, Luther Hiram
Born June 3, 1926 in Jackson County, Georgia
Died January 5, 1982 in Augusta, Richmond Co, Ga.
Buried in the Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, Georgia.
He was the Son of Dee Washington Lord, Sr. and Addie Jane Gee Lord of Jackson Co, Georgia.
He was an Army Veteran of World War Two and the Korean War, He was in the Battles of the Phillippines and other Battles in the South Pacific, His Outfit was one of the First Divisons to Enter Japan after they Surrendered, He was Discharged from the Army in Late 1945, But was Recalled in 1950 when the Korean War Started. He work at the Camp Gordon Army Base near Augusta, Ga. until his retirement in the 1970's.
