Abner Calvin Adkins enlisted April 26, 1861 as a Private, in Company E, 3rd Infantry Regiment, Georgia. He was wounded at the Crater in Petersburg, Virginia, on July 30, 1864, was POW on April 3, 1865, at Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. Released on August 28, 1865. Returned to Georgia, married Eveline Maria Brooks, raised large family.

BACHELOR, Cornelius 
Born 1820 Georgia
Grandson of Revolutionary War veteran Cornelius Bachelor, he was a soldier in Company I, 5th Georgia Infantry Regiment, which participated in over 55 engagements. These included battles at Missionary Ridge, Chattanooga, Chicamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta and Bentonville. After the war he was a carpenter. After his death in 1884, he was buried at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Taylor County, Georgia.

John T L Baldwin - Enlisted on June 21, 1861, at the age of 23. John was a private in Phillips Legion, County "D" of the Georgia Infantry Battalion. He was WIA (wounded in action) in Maryland campaign (either 9/14/1862 or 9/17/1862) "fingers off", Home disabled rest of war, 1906 Roster Commission roll shows him as A J Baldwin and states "wounded at South Mountain, Maryland. 9/14/1862."

He is assumed to be buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Leslie, Ga.

He enlisted as a private in Captain Frink's Company (Frink's Guards), 5th Regiment Florida Infantry, later designated Company "F", on March 14, 1862 in Jasper, FL. He received an enlistment bounty of $50. He was discharged on October 31, 1864 at Petersburg, VA. He married Luraney E. Smith February 18, 1849 in Laurens Co., GA. Robert and Luraney Bellflower are buried in the Bellflower Cem., Hamilton Co., FL.

Francis Marion is listed for being in Company "D," Infantry Battalion, Phillips Legion Georgia Volunteers on June 21, 1862. Francis signed for a tour of duty of three years, Under Col. Phillips. He enlisted in South Carolina. Francis was admitted To Winder Hosp. on Sept. 30, 1862, and was discharged on Oct. 24, 1862. He was admitted to General Hosp. No. 9 on Jan. 26, 1863, and transferred to General Hosp. No. 19 in Richmond, Virginia. in February of 1863. Francis died on February 12, 1863. Francis is buried at Oakwood Confederate Cemetery, Richmond, as F M Brinks.

Private CSA. He taught school for a while, was a carpenter, bricklayer, painter, shoe mender in connection with farming. He had an illness at age 2, that left him cripple. (one foot was a size 6, the other was a size 9.) He was of Irish descent, was fair with blue eyes, sandy hair. Was a member of the Bible Christian Church. He worked in a hospital near Athens GA during the War. The hospital was moved to Augusta then to Macon to avoid Sherman's troops. He was believed discharged in Macon, papers lost. He died July 2, 1900 this is from Francis Dennis Arwood, his youngest child.

He died of fever in the hospital at Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. He married Rachel Dyar. Thomas's burial place is unknown, but Rachel is buried in the Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Married Clarinda Cupp (born 6/17/1830 died 3/23/1897) Cherokee Co, AL. Both buried at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Forney, Cherokee County, AL. I have copies of three "Soldiers or Sailors" application forms for The State of Alabama county of Cherokee for my gg grandfather, Littleton Gann. The one dated May 15, 1896 says "he was a solier in company L of 7 regiment of GA. That while in the discharge of his duties as such, he was Ruptured while in Military Service and is 75 years of age and unable to work." The one dated April 24, 1897 says " he was a private in company L of 7th regiment of Ga. ----he was "ruptured in left side and is 75 yrs. old". The one dated January 29th, 1898 says " he was a corporal in company L of 7th regiment of Georgia Volunteers." ----"70 yrs. old" All have "his post office address is Forney, Cherokee Co, Alabama".

Served in the Civil War, according to his pension papers that he filed in 1899, he enlisted in Jefferson, Jackson County, Georgia in May of 1862, Muster Roll of Company E, 34th Regiment, Georgia Volunteers. States that he served almost two years. He was wounded in the arm at Baker's Creek Mississippi by a minnie ball and came home and was not able to return to military service. He was paroled in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia May 8th, 1865.

He was captured July 4, 1863, hospitalized for a while in Macon and died at his home in Crawford County. He was the son of Clement Hancock, Jr. and Temperance Jackson Hancock and is buried in the Clement Hancock, Jr. cemetery in Crawford County.

He was listed as one of the prisoners captured at Harper's Ferry 8 July 1864 and also was listed as a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was sent to Washington D.C. 20 July 1864 and on 11 Oct. 1864 sent to Union Prison Camp in Elmira, New York, where he was then exchanged 29 Oct 1864. He married 1)Louanna Thornton and 2)Mary Hall. Burial place unknown.

Son of Joseph Hansard and his wife Sarah of Cherokee County, Georgia. Thomas enlisted with the CSA on 1 May 1860 at Roswell, Georgia, as a Private with Company F, 56th Georgia Infantry. His residence at the time of enlistment was Milton County, Georgia. He was captured at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, 4 July 1863 and was sent to military prison in Louisville, Kentucky on 25 July 1864, by U.S. forces. He took the oath of allegiance on 27 July 1864. He was released on oath to remain north of the Ohio River during the remainder of the war. Thomas married Caroline Wright and both are buried in Witherspoon Cemetery in Vandervoort, Arkansas.

He was wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia, on 3 May 1863. His name appears on the list of prisoners of war belonging to the Army of Northern Virginia, which was surrendered by General R.L. Lee at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 April 1865. Burial place unknown.

Son of James Alexander Hansford and Phoebe Hardy of Oglethorpe County. Jethro Gibson enlisted in the CSA on 17 September 1861 at Yorktown, Virginia, as a Private with Company K, 6th Georgia Infantry. ("Gilmer Blues") He was wounded 1 July 1862 in the Battle of Malvern Hill in Virginia. He was again seriously wounded in the Battle of Olustee, Florida, and sent home on wounded furlough. He returned to service and was present at the surrender at Greensboro, North Carolina. Jethro is buried in Watkinsville, Georgia, along with his wife Olive Yarbrough.
His military record is on file with the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

He was married to Elizabeth Edwards on 21 October 1863 while home on leave. Three months later he was hit by a shell at Ft. Sumter. His wife went to Ft. Sumter to care for him until his death. At age 18, he enlisted on Aug. 19, 1861 in the CSA. He served under Gen. McGowen in Company F, 14th Regiment SC Volunteers and was wounded in the battle of Frazier's Farm VA, near Richmond, VA on June 29, 1862, during the Seven Days Battles around Richmond. His wound caused the amputation of his right arm, but he continued to serve as a Recruiting Officer to the end of the war. He is buried in Hill View Cemetery in LaGrange, GA.

HOLT, Willis Cox, Col.

My ancestor was Col. Willis Cox Holt, 10th Georgia Infantry CSA. Joined regiment as Captain of Co. C (Chattahoochee Beauregards of Chattahoochee County) and moved up ranks eventually to full Colonel when he was mortally wounded in Oct. 1864 at the Battle of Cedar Creek (Battle of the Valley). He is buried on the grounds of Masanutten Military Academy near Woodstock, VA. His exploits as leader of the regiment are outlined in several articles in the O.R. of the war. He had married Susannah Bird Bussey before the war, and had 2 children, William Franklin Holt, and Lucy Ann Holt (my 2nd great grandmother) before being killed in the war. His regiment was chiefly in the Semmes Brigade, Longstreets Corps, Army of Northern Virginia for the majority of the war, seeing action at many famous battles including Gettysburg.

He enlisted as a private in Company H, 46th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, at Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia, on 1 May 1862. He was enlisted by Captain Eleazar Taylor for a period of three years or the duration of the war. Tolbert was a 5th sergeant when he was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, on 1 May 1865, three years to the day from his enlistment. He was buried in the Shiloh (Lineville) Church cemetery in Clay County.

NEWTON, Daniel Jeptha

Called "Jep" Newton. He was a sergeant in the 27th Georgia Infantry, which for the greater part of its existence was assigned as part of the Army of Northern Virginia. He fought in most of the Major engagements in Virginia in including Cold Harbor, the Wilderness, Battles or Williamsburg and Yorktown, the Shenandoah Campaign and associated battles including New Market; battles at Chancellorsville, Antietam and Petersburg. According to his Confederate Pension application, during the siege at Petersburg his left arm was amputated due to injury from canon-fire. He lived until 1917 and was buried at New Elm Baptist Church, near Doerun, Georgia.

PARKER, Nathaniel West 
Enlisted as a 3rd sergeant in Company K, 12th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry from Marion County, Georgia, on 15 June 1861. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 9 August 1862. He was captured at Spotsylvania, Virginia, on 10 May 1864 and died of pneumonia at Elmira, New York. He was buried in grave 1900 at Woodlawn National Cemetery.

He was also on the muster rolls of Company C, 14th Battalion Georgia Infantry (State Guards) on 4 Aug 1863. This company was enrolled for six months for local defense, to serve in 1/4th of the State, Macon, the center. UDC records also show him a member of Company F, 6th Georgia Militia. Union Prisoner of War record show that he was captured while member of the 7th Regiment Georgia Militia on 4 Dec 1864 at Dorchester by the 3rd Calvary Division. He was in prison for 7 months at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was from Bibb County, GA.

Admitted to General Hospital No. 18 (formerly Greaner's Hospital) Richmond, Va. 14 Nov 1861. Returned to duty, 4 Dec 1861. Battle of Sharpsburg (as in Confederate recollection) was also known as the Battle of Antietam. The military engagement of 17 Sep 1862 was the bloodiest single day in American Civil War. More than 23,000 soldiers on both sides were either killed, wounded, or listed as missing. The battle also gave President Lincoln the opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which on 1 Jan 1883, declared free all slaves in States still in rebellion against the United States. His mother L. Shirah, filed for his pay, 2 Mar 1863. He had not been paid from time of enlistment, 9 Sep 1861 to 17 Sep 1862, time of his death, (12 months, 9 days) at $11.00 per month: $135.30 and 12 months commutation for clothing for $75.00 totaled $210.30.

Transferred to General Hospital, Orange Courthouse, Virginia, 1 Feb 1862, transferred to Chimborazo Hospital No. 1, Richmond, Virginia, 2 Feb 1862. Discharged 20 Feb 1862 at Camp Pickins, Manassas, Virginia. His discharge stated he was born in Richland District, S.C. and was 28 years old, 5 ft, 7" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair. He re-enlisted and was appointed 2nd Lieutenant, 8 Apr 1863, promoted to 1st Lieutenant, 2 Jun 1863. On 21 Oct 1863, he was granted 20 days leave because of suffering high fever for the past 6 weeks. He was slightly wounded in action at Olustee, Florida, 20 Feb 1864.

He joined the Confederate Army in Columbus, Georgia in 1863. He was assigned to Company I, 64th Georgia Infantry. Nicholas Shirah returned to Macon County, Ga., after the war and resumed farming. He drew a Confederate Pension from the State of Georgia until his death in 1908.

The eldest son of James B. and George Ann Smith. He was a member of the Tattnall County Rangers which became Co B 61st Ga Vol Infantry; Lawton's Brigade; Ewell's Division; Jackson's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. He received several wounds and was medically discharged. Returning home, he served as a mail carrier until the close of hostilities. He passed away in 1891 of tuberculosis.

WALTERS, Franklin M.
Born abt 1830 Georgia
Franklin enlisted as a Private with Company H, 15th Georgia Infantry, CSA, on 4 Mar 1862. He was captured at Gettysburg 3 Jul 1863 and taken to Ft. McHenry, Maryland. From there he was sent to Ft. Delaware prison where he remained a POW for 2 years. He was released from prison 7 Jun 1865. Franklin married Eliza O'Barr. She is buried in Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

WATSON, Tyre H.

On August 28, 1862, Corporal Tyre H. Watson was wounded at 2nd Manassas, VA and died of his wounds on Sept. 6th 1862

WATSON, William G.
Born 1834 Carroll County, Georgia
On May 10, 1861, he and two of his brothers joined Company F 7th Georgia Infantry. On April 9, 1865, he surrendered at Appomattox court House, VA.

WATTS, John T. (J. T.)
Born 28 Oct 1828 LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia
Died 20 May 1904 Saline County, AR
Company B, 4th Georgia Battalion, 60th Georgia Volunteer Infantry 2nd Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. Entered as a Pvt. and departed as a Sgt. He was captured at the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse and spent one year as a POW in Delaware. After his parole, he rejoined his unit and served until the end of the war. Married Sarah Ann Temperance Davidson on Dec. 19, 1858. John T. had two brothers that also served in the same unit as he (Elihu and Robert). Elihu died of illness in Virginia. Robert was killed in battle.

WEAVER, Holly Hiram
A private in the Early County Guards, Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry, which was later assigned to the Army of Northern Virginia. He was wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 and was paroled at Tallahassee, Florida on May 24, 1865. He died at the age of thirty-four in Early County, Georgia and was buried at Zion Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery near Blakely, Georgia.

WEAVER, William Bryan
Grandson of a Georgia veteran of the War of 1812, Sgt. Julius Weaver, he joined the Early Guards, Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry, as a Private in July 1861. He was captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1865. He was paroled at Lookout, Maryland on Feb 18, 1865 and was received in a prisoner exchange at James River, Virginia on Feb 21, 1865. He was buried at Cedar Springs Cemetery in Early County, Georgia.

Resided in Carroll Co., GA from 1850 until he enlisted as private Co G 41st Ga Inf.(Carroll Co) March 10, 1862. Wounded Perryville, KY Oct 8, 1862. Captured and died in hospital as a POW.

Enlisted August 5, 1863 in Banks or Hall Co., GA as a private in Company G First (Col. Galt's) Regiment GA States Troops- Infantry. He muster out in Georgia in 1865.
