JOSEPH ROGER BROOKE is believed to stem from one of the Brooke families of Maryland. Joseph migrated to Wilkes Co., Ga, about the year 1800, it is believed, as part of a Catholic migration. A Catholic church was built in Locust Grove (now in Warren Co.) and a second church was built at Sharon, now in Taliferro Co., Georgia. A number of Brooke burials are found at Locust Grove including JOSEPH R. BROOKE, who was brought from Mississippi and buried in Locust Grove. Reference to building of a church can be found in Wilkes Co., Ga. Will Book A, page 33, Will of Joseph Thompson. Joseph Thompson married Ann Elixabeth Brooke on 1 April 1779, First German Evangelical Reformed Church, Frederick Co., Maryland.
Joseph and Sarah migrated to Marion Station, Lauderdale Co., Ms., about 1845. The Brookes were closely affiliated with Alexander Hamilton Stephens, attorney, and later Vice-President of the Confederacy. I have info on this Brooke line to the present time, will share. I appreciate any help you can give me. Brown V. Brooke
