1860 Federal Census

The 1860 Webster County census was transcribed by Sherry Osburn in 1997. It is included in the Webster County GAGenWeb with her gracious permission.

The 1860 Census date was June 1, 1860, which means that the information given is to be accurate on that date. Schedule 1 of the census collected the following information:

• Name
• Age
• Sex
• Color
• Profession, occupation or trade of each person over 15
• Value of real estate owned
• Value of personal estate owned
• Place of birth
• Married within the year
• Attended school within the year
• If over 21 and unable to read and write
• If deaf & dumb, blind, insane, idiot, pauper, or convict

Transcriber's notes:  1860, Webster County, Georgia, Southern District, Preston Post Office, enumerated from June 9- July, 1860 by B. Targgant. Microfilm M653, roll 140 pages 359 - 429. Note that only every other page for this county is numbered and there is no indication as to the race of the community. The 477 occupied dwellings in the county had a total real estate value of $872,663 for an average of $1829 per household. The value of personal property for the 477 occupied dwellings was $2,263,831.50 for an average of $4746 per household.
