ABOUT THE SITE:

ALL of the information is still here, but it has been incorporated into the new site structure.  A good deal of the prior site's information can be found in the Resources section.  The new site will organize the information so that all the similar information is together and provides links to other areas of the site that have additional information (i.e. church locations in the "Land" section will have links to any online church records in the "People" section).  This is to make the researcher's life easier.  While the old information is still here, the sections don't have ALL of the information I want to add.  The structure is as follows:

bulletDemographics: Information about current-day White Co. including a map, weather, etc.
bulletCounty History:  All about the history of the area--time lines, events, etc.  Specific historic events have further detail (i.e. the gold rush)
bulletPeople:  How to find people information--be it birth-marriage-death records, census information, burials, bible records, etc.  This already includes some Native American information; and will grow to include sections on African-American source information and military information.  Anything that has to do with finding a person.
bulletPlaces:  Each town, village or "area" is listed and will route back to a page for the current-day town page.  On the town page, you will find locations of libraries, historic societies, links to the town's homepage, church locations in the town, etc.  The Land category also includes map information, old and current-day location names (and how they map back to one another), cemetery location information (with links to transcriptions), church locations (with links to any records), etc.
bulletResources: Includes many resources already found elsewhere on the site and categorizes them so that similar types of resources can all be found in one place:  religious/ethnic resources; county, state & national resources; online resources; queries, etc.
bulletVolunteers/Help: An area devoted to volunteer projects that can be used to get information, or donate information to.

The Georgia GenWeb Project

In March & April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Georgia Comprehensive Genealogy Database.  The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Georgia, where collected databases would be stored.  In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

My name is Heather Jones DeGeorge and I am managing the White County site.  If you'd like to contribute your information to this page, please e-mail me!

There is a mailing list for White County interests.  For more information, click here!  To search the mailing list archives, click here.

Additionally, there is a query forum available for the county.
