Nicholas SLADE of Baltimore Co., MD, purchased land in Wilkes Co., GA, in January 1787. In March 1799 he signed his will which was probated in March 1803. By the time of probate, both named executors were also desceased and his estate was administered by daughter Polly and Mauldin AMOS. Before March 1808, four of the surviving 6 daughters moved to Ohio leaving behind Martha who married Ben CHAPMAN and William PENN and Belinda who married John DIGBY and David SMITH. Martha & Belinda were still living in 1850 in Jasper Co., GA. I am tracking all descendants of Nicholas for publication.

Seeking parents of SPRINGER,Job. Job was in Clarke Co. from 1801-1805 (on tax rolls). He went there from Warren Co. GA. When he left Clarke, he went to Baldwin Co. GA (there in 1807), then to Jones Co. GA (1808?-1813?); then he went to Mississippi Territory & died in Greene Co. AL in 1832. Children: Job SPRINGER, Jr., John SPRINGER, Anna SPRINGER Medders, Keziah SPRINGER Elder, Nancy SPRINGER Jackson, Mary "Polly" SPRINGER Norsworthy. -- Job probably came from Frederick Co. VA and lived in Union Co. SC. First record was in 1774 when he was witness to a deed in Wrightsborough Twp., GA. In 1784, he received land in Wilkes Co. GA. He disappeared from the records between 1774-1784. Where was he then? Records abound after 1784 & until death. Does anyone have any idea who Job's parents were? (By the way, Job was born between 1740-1750 according to 1830 AL census.) Thanks for any help.

John Thomas LINDSEY married Catherine GILLINGTON CHISM 18 Nov 1813 in Wilkes Co. Catherine's parents, Lewis FLEMISTER and Ellendar CHISM moved from Halifax Co., Va in 1790. Catherine was born in 1792 and was first of six children. Lewis FLEMISTER was personal aide to Gen Geo Washington (documented by DAR plaque at gravesite in 1930) and had a farm 2 1/2 miles from Tignall on Danburg road. He is buried near that farm. Appreciate any info on parents, siblings and birth/homeplace of John Thomas LINDSEY and any info on FLEMISTERs. Any info on descendants of either family still in Wilkes Co.

Phelps HAYNES, my gggrandfather, was in Wilkes Co., GA in 1791, according to the tax lists. He was born 4 July 1770 in Bedford Co., VA, m. Lucy HURT c. 1789, and d. circa 1849 in Winston Co., MS. Phelps, son of John HAYNES and Sarah PHELPS, also lived in Green Co., Oglethorpe Co., and Jasper Co., GA. His siblings were Jane, Mary or May, John, Millie, Lucy Ann, Thomas, and Henry, most of whom moved to GA from VA. Phelps' children were: Joel, John, James Phelps, Thomas F., William, Mary, Alcey, Sarah, Henry, Rebecca, George W., Tabitha, Louisa, and Susannah.
