DAVIDSON, KELLEY, KELLY, ROBERTS posted by Raymond A. Kelly, Jr. on Wednesday, April 23, 1997

Raymond A. KELLY JR. 18703 Lakeshore Drive Lutz, Florida 33549 (813) 949-2017 April 23,1997 Please E-Mail response to RKelly6704@aol.com William KELLEY SR. and Wife Katherine, Wilkes County, Georgia William Kelley Sr., his wife, Katherine, and family were early settlers of Wilkes County, Georgia. A grant was made to him in 1783 of 300 acres on the Ogeechee River known as Crawfords Mill Place. Another grant was made to him in 1783 of 500 acres on Long Creek of Ogeechee. On June 28, 1785, William Sr. gave his son John Kelley 100 acres on Long Creek where John was then living. Both William Sr. and his son John are listed in the 1785 Wilkes County Tax List in the Long Creek District (GMD 154). On August 9, 1786, John signed the land back to his father, William Sr. On the same date William KELLY Sr. and wife Katherine of Washington County sold the entire 500 acres on Long Creek to Samuel Camp of Wilkes County. Since either John nor his father William Sr. are listed in the Long Creek District of Wilkes County in 1787 I believe John followed his father to Washington County in 1786. On January 9, 1792, a John Kelly of Washington County sold 400 acres in Wilkes County to Prossor Horton of Wilkes County. The witnesses to this transaction resided in the Long Creek District. Were there other children of William Kelley Sr. and his wife Katherine? Who were the wife and children of John Kelley? Did John die in Washington County or did he migrate to another county? Raymond A. KELLY Jr., P.E. 18703 Lakeshore Drive Lutz, Florida 33549 (813) 949-2017 I would like to contact: Mr. Robert DAVIDSON Box 121 Doodletown Road Ancram, N. Y. 12502 who wrote "Notes on a Kelley Family of Georgia" in April 1978. I have been unsuccessful in writing to the above address which was valid in 1978. John KELLY AND wife Elizabeth, Warren County, Georgia: 1794-1797 John Kelly and his wife Elizabeth were living on the east side of the Ogeechee (GMD 1169) near Mitchell, Georgia, in Warren County, in 1794. This area is now in Glascock County. This area was in Columbia County from December 1790 to December of 1793. On January 21, 1794 John Kelly purchased 300 acres bounded on the Southwest by the Ogeechee River from Garland, Jean, Mary, and Sarah Morgan. On October 23, 1797 John and Elizabeth Kelly sold this property to John Hillson. There is no John Kelly listed in GMD 1169 in 1801. Did John Kelly die before 1801 or did he migrate from this area? Who are the children of John and Elizabeth Kelly? John KELLY: Warren County, Georgia : died 1804. In the book "Information on Some Georgia Pioneers" written by Joseph T. Maddox it is noted on page 107 there is a John Kelly, head of household who died in Warren County in 1804. He is said to be the son of William Kelly. I have been unable to find a public record of his death or estate administration. Where does his death date come from? Who were his wife and children? Jesse KELLY IN Georgia: 1787-1840 Jesse Kelley is a witness to a Deed of Gift, December 15, 1787 in Wilkes County from Daniel Herring to son Sanders Herring. Another witness to the Deed is David Watson who was a resident of the Long Creek District (GMD 154) in 1785. Jesse Kelly is referenced in a Wilkes County, Georgia Deed Book February 8, 1790. Jesse Kelly transfers to John and Jesse Roberts, sons of Thomas Roberts, a Black Cow. No consideration is noted. Witnesses on the transaction are William Kelly and Arthur Long. Thomas Roberts was a resident of the Long Creek District (GMD 154) in 1790. Is there a family relationship between Jesse KELLY and Thomas ROBERTS? Who are Jesse Kellys parents and siblings? When was Jesse Kelly born? Jesse Kelley next appears in 1793 in the Washington County Militia; District 5, 2nd. Btn., 2nd Regiment, Capt. McDowells Company. In the same company is Sgt. David Kelley, Thomas Kelley, William Kelley, and John Kelley. Jesse Kelley next appears in 1794 in Hancock County, Georgia, Island Creek District (GMD 104) along with David, John and William Kelley. Jesse Kelly was granted 300 acres in Hancock County on July 3, 1797 on his own headrights and 100 acres on his family headrights December 5, 1796. Jesse Kelly appears on a list of "State Troop Bounty Warrents: Creek Indian War, #47, May 15, 1798: 640 acres (valued at $200)." Jesse Kelley sold 60 acres on Big Island Creek to John Kelley on July 5, 1799. John Kelley sold this property to Thomas Lewis on August 5, 1799. Jesse Kelley next appears on the Tax Roll of Jackson County, Georgia in 1801 in Capt. Lloyds District along with John, William, and Tyre Kelley. In 1802 Jesse Calley is in Capt. Lloyds District on the Apalachee River in Clarke County, Georgia along with David, William and Tiry Calley. Jesse Kelly is listed in this district on the Apalachee River from 1803 through 1805 but not in 1806. Jesse is a registrant (married, over 21) in the 1805 Clarke County Land Lottery. A younger Jesse Kelly who I believe is a nephew of the subject Jesse Kelly married Sarah Lucy Pierce in Jackson County, Georgia, September 22, 1806. This younger Jesse Kelly migrated to the area that is now Clarke County, Alabama in 1809. Jesse Kelley next appears in the Morgan County Tax Digest in 1809 in Capt. Zimmermans District owning no property. Tirry, David, and Marvel Kelley are in the same district. Morgan County was formed from Baldwin County(LD4,5,20) in December 1807. Jesse does not appear in the 1810 Tax Digest of Morgan County. Jesse Kelley next appears in the 1819 Tax Digest of Walton County, Georgia in Capt. Greenes District on Big Logner Creek. Marvel Kelly is also in this district. Jesse Kelly is listed in the 1820 Walton County Census as a male over 45 years of age with a wife in the same age bracket. There is one male in the household younger than 9. Marvel and Redick Kelley are listed in adjacent dwellings as males between 26 and 44 years of age with their families. There is a Jesse Kelly on the Tax Rolls of Butts County, Georgia in 1828. Jesse Kelly is listed in the 1830 Walton County Census as a male between 60 and 70 years of age(born 1760-1770). His wife is listed between 70 and 80 years of age. Jesse Kelly married Martha Oakes, September 29, 1838 in Walton County. There is a young (20-30 years) Jesse Kelly listed in the 1840 Walton County Census with a wife (15-20 years) and a daughter under 5 years of age. Who were Jesse Kellys wife and children? Who were Jesse Kellys parents and siblings? Did Jesse Kelly die in Walton County between 1830 and 1840? Is he buried there?
