Robert CARR and his wife, Leanna RAGAN, bought land in Wilkes Co. in 1773. Robert CARR was killed by Creek Indians in 1779 at Carr's Fort on Beaverdam Creek, not far from Kettle Creek. Leanna escaped. Leanna Carr later married John GRAHAM. They lived in Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Walton (where John Graham died) and Floyd Counties. William CARR was a son of Leanna and Robert CARR. Does anyone know who the other children were?

William EVANS married Tabitha THOMPSON in Wilkes County. They had a daughter, Rachel EVANS, who later married Samuel RAY. Does anyone have information on this family? I can find no proof that Rachel EVANS is the daughter of William EVANS and Tabitha THOMPSON, or that William's wife was named Tabitha.

I am looking for the parents of John LEE who was probably born in N. Caroline in 1802, and who moved to Wilkes Co. Ga. when John was very young. John may have married Judy BOND of Wilkes Co. on 02/14/1826. First child was Jesse Lee - 12-29-1827. His second marriage was in 1834 to Melissa Ann PAULK. This marriage took place in Stewart Co. on 12-08-1834. John died in Lenox, AL., Conecuh Co., Al on 07-29-1878.

Looking for George NICHOLS and his son, George NICHOLS, Jr. They were in Wilkes Co., GA around 1790. George NICHOLS, Jr. married Esther BARTON in 1813 in Christian Co., KY. Then they moved to St. Clair Co., IL where their 2 sons, Jesse & Isaac, were born.

BROWN: My great-grandmother was Mary Susan BROWN (born in the 1850s) who married Willis BECKWORTH in Taliaferro Co GA in 1870. Her death certificate (Toombs Co 1920s) says she was born in Wilkes County and that her parents were Benjamin BROWN and Martha BROWN. I don't believe her parents names are correct. Can anyone help with this?

CLAY, Jesse and Royal. Need information on the CLAY family of Wilkes and Jasper counties Georgia. Jesse Clay (1744 - 1824) was a Revolutionary War soldier. Royal Clay Sr. was listed with his (I assume) father, Jesse, in the Wilkes County militia in 1789. Where in Virginia did this family come from and were they connected in anyway with U.S. Statesman Henry Clay?

Both were born in Virginia ~1760 and received a grant of 500 acres in Wilkes, in the portion which became Elbert County. They later removed to Jackson County, where Margaret d. 1828. John WILLIAMSON, Sr. then removed to Butts County, where he d. Oct. 9, 1831. Children: WILLIAMSON WILLIAMSON (unmarried), Adam WILLIAMSON (m. Elizabeth HORTON), John WILLIAMSON Jr. (m. Winnie CAMP), Sallie WILLIAMSON (m. Bolar (sp?) MOON), Polly WILLIAMSON (m. Reuben MCCLUNG, whose name is occasionally found as MCCLESKY) and Jennie WILLIAMSON (m. Edward DOSS). Thomas Rose Jr. bought 200 acres from Sir James Wright in Savannah sometime between Nov.7, 1774 and March 10, 1775. This land, according to the record, "lays on a ridge between Coody's and Butram's Creek" in Wilkes Co., GA. I have record of ancestors living in NC during this time period, but had no knowledge of any in GA. Any info would be helpful.

Seeking information on Edward and Jean DENNEY (or DENNY) from Union County, SC, who settled in the Wilkes/Elbert area prior to 1790. I am looking for some evidence of a land transaction or grant. Edward and Jean DENNEY went back to Union briefly during the indian troubles in the late 1780s but returned permanently 1794.

KIDD: Seeking documented information on children of James H Kidd Rev Soldier born 1764 Mecklenberg Co Va. Removed to Georgia ca 1783 to Augusta, then to Elbert. Land conveyances in Wilkes, Elbert, etc. Wife's name was Elizabeth. Brother was William, Rev. soldier, who died in Oglethorpe Co 184?. The last public record found on this man was in 1840 when he and his brother, Wm. pledged their rev. pension to an attorney in Savannah. There are some indications James H. Kidd may have died in Oglethorpe Co. In particular, wish to establish relationship of James H Kidd to Seaborn Jones Kidd, who is believed to be a son.
