Thomas Carter came to Wilkes Co., Ga. around 1778 from Charlotte Co., Va. and settled in the part that became Elbert Co. in 1790. His DAR record says he married a Miss Farris. I have never found any proof of that but I did find a record of a marriage in Prince Edward Co., Va. of Thomas Carter and Sarah Martin on 21 May 1764, surety Thomas Scott. I have a lot of evidence to prove that this is indeed the wife of my Thomas Carter. What I am looking for is some kind of document of proof in Georgia with Thomas and Sarah's name. Their son, Thomas S. Carter used the Farris name in the names of his children, but I think it was from his mother, Sarah Martin's side of the family. I also do not know what happened to Thomas S.Carter and his family. I only have the name of my ancestor ,Lucy Faris Carter b.7 Sept. 1806 in Elbert Co., Ga. Is there a connection with this Carter family and the other Carters in Wilkes Co. in the late 1700's? What about with Farris Carter of Cartersville, Ga.? My records say Thomas S.
