BELL, GLASS, LANDRUM posted by Sandra Gilbreath on Friday, March 13, 1998

Burton LANDRUM was the son of Thomas LANDRUM who died in 1814 in Wilkes County,GA. Burton LANDRUM moved to MS Territory and married a Miss GLASS (possibly BETSY ANN GLASS). At some point in the early 1800's, Burton LANDRUM moved to Wilkinson County ,MS and apparently died by Jan. 1823( according to a record in Wilkinson County naming Betsy Ann LANDRUM as executrix and Joel GLASS and William M. LINDSEY as executors). Some of Burton LANDRUM'S siblings were Thomas LANDRUM ,Jr., Samuel LANDRUM, John LANDRUM, and 4 sisters. This family evidently came into GA from NC., and were supposedly in VA c.1688.Another THOMAS LANDRUM,b.1756 d.1832 in Oglethorpe County,GA,and married to MARY BELL,may be the father of THOMAS and grandfather of BURTON.My ggg grandfather, also named Burton LANDRUM , is almost certainly the son of the first Burton LANDRUM.He was married 11 Nov. 1832 in Wilkinson County,MS to Eliza WESTBERRY (WESTBURY), and apparently died by Nov. 1833 when Joel GLASS(possibly his uncle?) was named as executor of Burton LANDRUM'S estate.I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who is researching any LANDRUMS, GLASSES, WESTBERRYS, or BELLS who have ties to the area of Wilkes County and/or MS. Thank you so much.

BAGLEY, BISHOP, FREENEY, HUBERT, JONES, MALONE, MOORE, NOBLES, REYNOLDS, RUNNELS posted by Connee Kroeger on Monday, March 23, 1998

Around 1785, my REYNOLDS family moved to Wilkes Co., GA from Caswell Co., NC. My proven ancestor who made that move was Dudley F. REYNOLDS with wife, Fannie HUBERT. I believe Harmon RUNNELS was a brother to Dudley F. as he married Fannie's sister, Hester HUBERT, both girls being daughters of Benjamin HUBERT. The older Dudley REYNOLDS, who later died in Clarke Co., GA, I believe is the father to Dudley F. and Harmon. I also think Spencer, Preston, and Terry REYNOLDS are probably brothers, as they all lived on Kettle Creek in Wilkes Co. Children of Dudley F. and Fannie REYNOLDS were: Johnson b. 1772, Elijah b. 1775, Benjamin Hubert b. 1778, Sarah b. 1780, Polly, James, Giles, Nancy, and Levi b. 1785. Known spouses of these children were NOBLES, JONES, FREENEY, BISHOP, BAGLEY, MALONE, and MOORE.

ALLEN, SPURLOCK posted by Eleanor Colson on Tuesday, March 31, 1998

I am looking for information on the ALLEN family as well as SPURLOCK. Benjamin ALLEN of North Carolina was granted 100 acres on Long Creek in Wilkes Co on 15 Oct 1773 for himself, his wife and 2 sons, 5 and 2. Later that year he was granted 150 more acres. On 16 Nov 1791, Benjamin ALLEN sold 200 acres to Allen SPURLOCK and Sarah SPURLOCK of Wilkes Co which was paid for in their behalf by David ALLEN. I know that Allen SPURLOCK was a minor. This deed was proved 27 June 1794 by David ALLEN which was probably when Allen SPURLOCK was an adult. I believe David ALLEN was probably their guardian and I believe that Allen SPURLOCK's mother was probably an ALLEN. Other ALLENs in the area were Charles , David, Jr, and Job ALLEN.
