GRESHAM posted by Bobby G. Lane on Friday, January 8, 1999

I am interested in George Gresham Jr., son of George Gresham, who settled on Rocky Creek in 1785. George Gresham Sr. had many children, some of whom were Thomas Gresham, George Gresham Jr., Benjamin Gresham, Kaufman Gresham, Dicy Gresham, Jane Gresham, Martha Gresham and others. My special interest is George Gresham Jr. I believe he possibly might be the George Gresham who died in Lawrence Co., Tn. in 1852. George Gresham of Lawrence Co., Tn. was born in Virginia in 1772, this we know for sure. I also know that George Gresham of Lawrence Co., Tn. was the Father of 21 Children, by 2 different wives. His first wife may have been a Thornton, the Daughter of William Thornton of Wilkes Co., Ga. My direct Ancestor was a man by the name of John Haran Gresham who settled in Farmersville, Tx. in 1869 after the Civil War. John's Mother had died in 1868. John was a Farmer and a Methodist and had lived most of his married life in Maury Co., Tn. The 1850 Census lists him as Grissom, but we know that by studying the names of his Family at that time, that he really was John H. Gresham with wife Mary Caroline Langham Gresham and their two sons, Thomas Wesley and George L. Gresham. John Haran Gresham was a Chaplain in the Civil War in the Tennessee 9th Calvary Battalion under Gantt. John Haran Gresham was the only surviving son of George Gresham by his second marriage to Ann (Nancy) Chaffin Gwin, a widow woman with two children of her own. If anyone has in INFORMATION on George Gresham Jr., son of George Gresham Sr. of Wilkes Co., Ga., please get in touch with me @ my E-Mail Address. A Gresham Cousin, Bobby G. Lane

He possibly is the father of James Oglethorpe Burdine that I am also searching for. BROWN who was the Govenor of Georgia during the Civil War. I would like more information on him please. Thank you, Carol Ann
