BURKS, LYON, WEATHERS posted by Jean McCullough on Tuesday, February 9, 1999

I am researching John & Mary Burks, who migrated to Wilkes Co. sometime after 1773 from Virginia. They had land on Sherrol's Creek. Children were Nancy Burks who married Sheldrick Kendrick, James Lyon Burks, William Burks and Wylie Burks. There were other children but I don't have their names. Supposedly when John and Mary came to this area they had 5 sons and 3 daughters ages ranging from 13 to 3 months. There is a connection to the LYON family but as yet we have not found it. It is also possible that this John Burks was also the Capt. John Burks who served with Col. Clark in the Rev. War.
