Seek info on Gideon TOWNS, who moved from NC to Wilkes Co., eventually on to Telfair Co. Gideon Towns, born about 1792 in North Carolina, married Sarah Corbin in Wilkes County on Feb. 14, 1818. He died in Telfair before 1860. She was born in Virginia about 1790 and died in Telfair before 1870. They had at least five children: Johnson C. Towns, for whom the town of Towns is named, born about December 1819 in Lincoln County, Ga., and died after 1900 in Telfair. He was thrice married. First was to Rebecca Brown, Nov. 10, 1836 in Houston County, then to Catherine Matthews, in Pulaski County, and then to Eliza English of Dodge County. He had children by Rebecca and by Catherine. The second child was Mary Elizabeth Towns, born about 1820 in Wilkes County, she married John Walker in Houston County on Dec. 22, 1842. I have some descendants of this line, which is mine. Third was a James Towns, born about 1823, and after 1850, he disappeared. No idea whether he died or moved out of state (though inquires by a Wooten relative who checked Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Texas were fruitless). Fourth was Sarah Ann J. Towns, born about 1826, and married Ezekiel J. Watson in Telfair on Dec. 22, 1847. Nothing on this line. Fifth was Peter T. Towns, born about 1829 in Houston County, and died after 1910 in Telfair. He married Eliza Jane Livingston in Telfair on May 5, 1853. (A Wooten cousin has this line)

I have unconfirmed information that a James HOWARD was born in Wilkes Co., GA in 1752, to Ignatious HOWARD and Sarah SIMS. Ignatious was born in MD in 1725, and Sarah in VA in 1726, and they were married in VA in about 1745 in Greenbrier Co., VA. They both died in Greenbrier Co., VA (Ignatious in 1774 and Sarah in 1789). Supposedly their first two children, sons Thomas (b. 1750) and James (b. 1752) were born in Wilkes Co., GA, while their third (daughter Elizabeth b. 1755) and subsequent children were born in Virginia.
