APPLING, CALLAWAY, SPRATLIN, WOOTTEN posted by Jim Cook on Sunday, September 5, 1999

Sardis Baptist Church has a memorial monument in memory of James Spratlin and Mary Appling Spratlin, my wife's ancestors. Does anyone know where they are buried? I would also like to know who Mary Appling's parents were and if she is related to Joel Appling and his wife Mary Hamner Strange. A grandchild of James and Mary Spratlin, James Spratlin married Martha Callaway, daughter od Enoch Callaway. Their son James Mell Spratlin married Rosa Clifton Wootten. I am also interested in her ancestors (parents, Dr. William Henry Wootten and his wife, Elizabeth Whitehead Taylor and grandparents, Benjamin Wootten and Eliza Callaway.) Any help is these matters will be appreciated.

WATERS posted by Barbara Waters on Tuesday, September 7, 1999

Does anyone have info on George WATERS or Thomas WATERS (the Tory)? A George WATERS signed a petition to the governor in 1798 regarding the Wofford line that was, I believe, in Franklin/Jackson Co., GA. Collison WATERS was in Jackson Co., apparently early on. He was selling property in the early 1800's when he moved to Hall Co., GA, where he died after 1820. There was a Matthew WATERS who served on the first jury in Jackson Co., GA. Are these WATERS connected to the same family? Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Barb

Searching for information on Thomas WATERS, the Col. (Tory- English), who reportedly left America following the American Revolution. OR, did he return to Union Co., SC? He ? m. a part Cherokee Indian, Sarah "Sallie." Did he have two families? He was an Indian Trader and owned land in SC and GA. If anyone has a Collins/Collison WATERS, I am very interested in finding his ancestors. I believe he came from Union Co., SC, and was on the Savannah River in the late 1700's or early 1800's, as was a Matthew WATERS. CANNON posted by Jerry Cannon on Thursday, September 16, 1999

Ensign N.T. Cannon ( went by Thomas ) Co. A. 2nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment 1st Kentucky Infantry Brigade (Orphan Brigade) Surrendered with his unit in Washington, Ga. He settled in Lincolnton, and died & buried in Augusta (Westview Cem) I've found a CS Soldiers Pension record on him in your courthouse. I can not find any "Muster Roles" or other data concerning their mustering out of service. Ultimately, I'm looking for his birthplace in Ky, but that seems "far fetched" at this time. Also, when there, I did not see a historical marker for these Kentucky troops. That's kind of sad, when most of the Army of Tenn ran away to Nashville while these troops continued to shadow the army of northern agressors. Any help would be fantastic. Thank You, PS - Your town is loaded with history and is a great place to visit. Jerry Cannon
