WILKES AND LIBERTY, Early Day Motion (EDM) Tony Banks, M.P. |
As you can see from the message below, our English friends still value the freedoms stood for by John Wilkes MP at the time we sought our freedon. He not only stood up for us, but also against the wrongs being done to the British subjects at home. Quite a brave act!
It is nice to see so many Members of Parliment who have not forgotten what he stood for.

The above represents my personal opinion. Below is the information sent me by the office of Tony Banks, Member of Parliment.
Dear Thomas,
Tony Banks has asked me to forward you a copy of an Early Day Motion (EDM) which he has just tabled as he thought it might be of interest to you and other members of the public in Wilkes County. An EDM is not debated but it attracts signatures of supporting MPs. In effect it is a petition for MPs and is very useful for identifying support within the House of Commons.
Regards
Nicola Hill

Dear Colleague,
WILKES AND LIBERTY
I intend to table an E.D.M. marking the anniversary of the birth of John Wilkes MP on 17th October.
You kindly signed a similar E.D.M. last year and I hope you will be prepared to sign again.
Yours sincerely,
WILKES AND LIBERTY
That this House notes that 17th October marks the anniversary of the birth of the great radical John Wilkes MP; pays tribute to the role of Mr Wilkes in the campaigns to secure the right of duly elected Members to take their seats, to report parliamentary debates in the Press, to extend the franchise, to establish religious freedom, to abolish general warrants and to pave the way for parliamentary reform; further notes his support for the American War of Independence; and is ready to echo the cry 'Wilkes and Liberty' in memory of one of the 18th Century's most colourful and outstanding politicians.
