MEET THE HOSTS

GLF-GEORGE

My interest in genealogy began when MOM wrote down all the names of the ancestors for DAD's family, that she had seen at the library..then when DAD told was searching for a birth Certificate to get Soc. Sec. he remembered something told to him forty years earlier, by his 'father'.

At Age 21, Dad was informed that his family name was NOT HOWE but NORWOOD, that he had been adopted from an orphanage , at about the age of three. This made me curious, when I retired from the AF, I decided I would see what I could find.

Mom also learned that all her family stories weren't true and I want to learn that info. At the age if 60 I learned another fact, that my birth Certificate was different, the surname was crossed out and HOWE substituted... WOW , what a surprise.

ALL this in thirty rears, but of course along with all the friends I have made hosting , from Calif to Idaho, Texas, Maryland , Washington and Oregon and all over the northeast. I feel we can assist anyone. I have served on the boards of several local historical societies, and have been hosting a total of over 15 yrs. My New England Chat has people from all over New England willing to jump in and help you.

Tuesday evenings at 8 PM till 9 PM, right here in GLF.

GLF-NORENXAQ

I have been researching genealogy for about 35 years with a dual focus. Namely family history which began with a booklet my grandmother gave me compiled by a cousin in the mid 1960s (this was when it was written, I received 2 copies later) as she knew of my interest at the time. My second focus has been non-European royalty of all time periods including mythical. Anyone with a royal European ancestry ties into these families at some point, albeit distantly at times.

As for areas of personal research, I focus on my mother's family who were from Virginia and New England. My father's family were not interested as well as were recent immigrants and so I have not found much about them.

I am your friendly neighborhood draconian host on Tuesday nights

GLF-SUSI

Susi Jones Pentico, has been envolved in research for more than 30 years and nearer 40 years. Her Mom's father was always sharing information with her when they walked the corn rows in Wyoming. That side of the family is from Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Her Dad's side is from Massachussetts, Maine, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. She found the link to the Mayflower via the Capt. Christopher Jones.

She has several other early lines. She is a descendant of Pocahantus from Virginia. Never thought that story would prove out but it creeped in the back door when helping someone with their research. Thanks Grandpa for the story. Her dominate expertise falls in the Mid Atlantic Region. She hosted on AOL Golden Gates Forum for almost ten years and was on the GenealogyForum.Org from beginning til it retired. She was instrumental in creating one of the very first Seminar's on line where no one had to leave their home to attend and no money was envolved. Even our world reknown speakers could do it from home. She looks forward to helping as she can to help this forum to grow.

She is a strong believer in a genealogist/family historian belonging to a genealogical society to help enhance their knowldege and research. She is a member of many orgainizations and doing Random Acts of Kindness always brings one rewards. She truly looks forward to helping the members here.

O, if you do not see Susi on Wednesday nights it's because she teaches Genealogy at one of the local libraries (Lemon Grove, CA) then, she has done that for almost ten years.

She has been a wife for almost 50 years and mother since 1959. They had 3 boys and 2 girls. The children have given them 8 boys and 2 girls for grandchildren. Four are in college the others are from Grammar School to High School.

GLF-POLOCK

I am GLF-POLOCK, aka Janet in the chat room. I am also the chat manager. I help Mike out as much as I can to keep the room going smoothly, which can be a never ending challenge.

I have been doing genealogy research since the early 1990's and love every minute of it. I didn't have a computer when I first started. I worked the "Old Fashioned" way. Through the library and courthouses. Since almost all of my families stayed in North West Ohio, and I am still here, I was able to go to the surrounding areas and find the information I needed. Once I got a computer, and they started putting information online, it has been a little simpler.

I started out by getting some papers my mom gave me. They were court papers for my grandfather regarding a will and sale of some property due to death. I had never heard the name that was involved before then. They were my mom's great uncles in Seneca and Sandusky Co., OH. When she told me who they were, and that she didn't know some of the names on the papers, I went hunting around for some answers. And that was the start. I don't think I will ever find all I need about any of my relatives, because most of them came from Germany and Hungary. Too expensive to find all that out.

While in the process of finding my family, I started posting messages and answering requests for people located out of the Toledo area that needed help. Mike took me up on an offer to do a lookup for him. That has lead to an 9 year friendship and doing lookups for the Genealogy LookUp Forum. That has since been changed to getting this chat room up and running and doing the Monroe County, Michigan USGenWeb co co-ordinator job with Mike. I have also done several 1940 ED transcription for the Steve Morse web site.

I want to see the chat room keep moving forward with new specialized chats and more hosts. Getting more people involved in this chat room is the eventual goal of Mike and I.

I am not certain I have an area of expertise. Through trial and error, I have been learning the best way to find sources and documents. And for all those who wonder how I find things they cannot seem to locate, my first job was a research librarian. Gee, I think that may have helped a bit!

Lastly:

1. I HATE ESSAY QUESTIONS!!!!!

2. I really do have a sense of humor, you don't see that much of it because I am always in HOST mode and have to be on the job. My momma taught me right.!!!
