Message: Around 1925, my mother-in-law, Frances, was given up for adoption by a Vaudeville singer/dancer, whose divorced name was ?? Crane Brown. Crane Brown was the black sheep of the Stephen Crane Family. Crane Brown's mother personally met our grandmother to arrange the adoption of Frances. Frances was raised in East Orange, New Jersey and was told that her birth grandmother was very aristocratic, but very concerned that Frances have a good home. Frances was told that she was illegitimate and that her birth mother was very talented, and very, very willful. Around 1941, Frances had her birth certificate altered to show only her adopted parents' names, so we have no other information. Has anyone heard of the Crane Brown woman?

Message: I just heard of the Crane Message Board and think it is great. We hopefully can find many links in our family tree. I have a home page on FamilyTreeMaker.com which has a report of my ancestors. Dennis Crane and Nancy Wheeler came from S. Carolina and lived several years in Kentucky (Charles was born there in 1802 and Elias in 1806). They then moved south into Washington Parish, Louisiana. Dennis fought in the War of 1812. Several of his sons (one of them my great great grandfather, Charles) left LA and moved to Rankin County, Missisippi. Anyone with any information to add? Any information would surely be appreciated. Thanks, JoAnn Reece jcreece@kctera.net

Message: I am descended from Ambrose Crain- the Granville Co NC bunch. Some of these migrated thru TN, including Van Buren Co ca 1850's. There is a Jesse Crain in Van Buren Co TN in 1850, age 74, living with his wife Julyann, their children and an 82 yo William Clemmons, (Julyann's father??). This family is just too close to my line not to be in it somewhere but I don't find him or his sons Moses, David or Aron. I don't have these given names much in my lines, either, altho my father and grandfather are both named Jesse. Given his advanced age and his wife's age I would bet there other wives and other kids. Do you have any clues or suggestions? I really feel the need to account for this family who according to the census were b. in South Carolina. The handwriting is clear. Thanks, Melinda Crain Tillman

Also, I would like to hear from any other descendants of Asa. I have been to Bridport and found Asa's grave. I have just begun using the Internet, and just found this place. When Moses came to this area he settled in the area of Iona/Porchtown in Franklin Township, in Gloucester Co.NJ. This is where he raised his 2nd family. he m. Susanna TURNER Porch, a widow with 5 sons. Together he and his sons, Matthias and Benjamin built the Zion ME Church in Porchtown. I have seen the grave of this Moses, it is behind this church. I believe he may be the child of a 2nd marriage or perhaps I should be looking only for his CRANE mother. Does anyone have any suggestions? All are welcome!!

Message: I did this backward, but what THINK is my linage is listed in my first posting, BUT i AM BEGINNING TO DOUBT THAT. My family has always been under the impression that the father of Moses was a Benjamin Crane. I guess he didn't have to come from the NJ line...but it just seems so logical!!

I found out that there is a high school in Chicago that is named after Richard Teller Crane that opened in 1922. I contacted the Chicago Historical Society and the Chicago Libary System and the Chicago Museum and do not expect to hear from any of them. I can send a picture of the medallion if anyone is interested. Just curiosity on my part, my wife is really into genealogy in a big way and now I am getting a taste of how she does her research to find information.

Message: its has been very exciting searching the crane family line. i am very proud of the family history, although far removed from the orginal crane name, it is still my heritage and i find it exciting. not only did i learn about our family but i had to remember alot of american history. it has helped me with my 13 year old daughter who now finds american history a bit more interesting knowing her family was here in the beginning of our country. she now has bragging rights. my grandfather, who is 86 becomes more alert and smiling as i tell him everything ive come across. with what i have found so far will help me keep searching and for the rest of the researchers out there, good hunting and i hope to hear from you

Crane lineage: David Boyd Crane, Jr. of Modesto, CA

Message: Hi everyone, My name is Debra Crumble, and I am the daughter of David Boyd Crane, Jr. (born 5-25-1928, died 12-31-81) of Modesto, California. His father's name is obviously David Boyd Crane, Sr.(born 9-26-1894, died 4-1964) from the same area. I know very little of my Crane history, but want to learn who is related and discover if I have any aunts, uncles or cousins surviving. My father told me that he had a couple of brothers, but they passed before I was born in 1966. His mother died of a tragic accident in 1931, and I don't even know her name. If any of you can help me find my Crane roots, I'd be ever so grateful! You can respond to this address or to my personal e-mail at: rredalert@hotmail.com Looking forward to hearing from you! Sincerely,
