Note: This Company was organized at North Branch, Md., Sept. 7, 1864; remained there until Sept. 16, 1864; marched thence to New Creek W.Va., performed duty in the Moorfield Valley, under command of Col. George R. Latham; participated in several skirmishes with the Rebel forces under McNeil and Russell which resulted favorably until the 28th day of November, 1864. The garrison at New Creek, W.Va., of which this Company composed a part was surprised and captured by the rebels under command of General Rosser, a portion of the men were captured. The company moved from New Creek, to Remount Camp, Md., Jan. 16, 1865; remained there and performed guard duty until April 4, 1865, moved thence to Opequan crossing; performed duty at that place and was engaged scouting through the country in opposition to the Guerrilla Mosby until April 15, 1865, moved thence to Remount Camp Md., was there full equipped and mounted. Moved thence to Berryville, Va., assigned to duty in the 2nd Cavalry Division under Command of General Chapman; moved thence to Washington, D.C., arrived at Washington, April 21, 1865, moved thence to Cloyd's Mills, Va. Returned to Washington April 26, 1865, was engaged in the search through the counties of the eastern shores of Maryland, for J. Wilkes Booth, was placed on patrol duty in Washington, was present at the review May 5, 1865, moved thence to Alexandria, Va.; moved thence to Fort Levanworth June 29, 1865; moved to Julesburg, Colorado, July 15, 1865; arrived at Julesburg, Col., Aug. 25, 1865. Performed escort duty on the O.S.L., until Nov. 1, 1865; moved thence to Alkali, New Mexico. Participated in several engagements with the Indians. Remained at Alkali and performed escort duty on the O.S.L. until April 19, 1866; moved thence to Fort Levanworth, Kan., for muster out. Arrived at Fort Levanworth, Kan., May 7, 1866. | |||||
