Note: This Company was organized from the Veterans of Co. E and I of the 6th West Virginia Cavalry at North Branch, Md., Sept. 7, 1864. Marched thence to New Creek, W.Va; arrived on the 16th inst., formed part of the garrison at that Post, scouting in search of Guerillas in the Valley of Moorefield, W.Va., until Nov. 28, 1864, when the garrison was surprised and captured by the enemy under General Rosser. The records of this company were totally destroyed. Those of the company who escaped, marched thence Jan. 14, 1865, to Remount Camp, Md., where the Co. was remounted and fully equipped. Marched thence April 21, 1865, to Washington, D.C. Performed Provost duty in the city. Was present at the Grand Review. Served as guards to members of Court Martial on trial of assassins of President Lincoln. Marched thence June 12, 1865, by rail to St. Louis, Mo. Arrived June 21, 1865; embarked there on steamer for Fort Levanworth, Kan. Arrived on the 15th day of May 1866. This Company has served in Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Dakota. Marched a distance of 5,600 miles.
