I collect data on all COON/KUHN/KOON/MACOONE lines and have over 12,200 entries to date. These line originate in Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, England, Ireland, and more. I collect information from all sources and work to complete families and connect researchers.
I am interested in any information on any of these surnames that any of you have to add.
In response to the Philip COON and Charity COON question, I submit the following in hopes it may help shed some light.
You stated, "I find 2 Coon lines. One from PA & the other from NJ in Harrison Co. VA bef. the Rev. War. The 2 may be related sev. gen. back."
The PA line is from Philip COON b. abt 1696 probably Germany (or Holland) and the NJ line of Thomas COON, Jr. is from the MA/RI MACOONE line originating with John MACOONE b. abt 1630 of Aberdeen, Scotland, who came to Cambridge, MA in the 1650s.
You stated, "I believe that the parents of Charity Coon are John Coon & Mercy Cozad. Several sources state that Philip Coon is her father." My records show that the following Charity COON is the daughter of Philip COON who was born about 1696 in Holland or Germany. I collect data on all COON/KUHN/KOON/MACOONE lines and have over 12,200 entries to date. These line originate in Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, England, Ireland, and more.

My records show that the following Charity COON is the daughter of Philip COON who was born about 1696 in Holland or Germany. My records indicate Philip COON had the following children: Joseph, John, Coonrod, Nancy, Madelene, Isaac, Charity, Anthony, George, Anne, David. I have conflicting information on Charity. The first six are shown to be born near Philadelphia, Charity (see below), Anthony at Coon's Run, and the two others' birthpalces unknown. You also stated, "I have letters from other Coon researchers on the east coast & NJ Archive paper noting that Jacob Cozad's friend Thomas Coon Jr. ( whom I bel. to be p. of John & Philip Coon) witnessed Jacob's will. Jacob was buried in the old COON family cemetery in NJ. Charity was b. NJ. John was b. NJ.
Although my research clearly points to John & Mercy Coon as Charity's parents, I have a dilema: the Philip Coon- Rev. War. vet-the Dar index states that he was b. PA! not NJ..perhaps this was the error that linked the Coon line to PA? Such a mystery to be solved." Thomas COON, Jr. was the great-grandson of John MACOONE of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Thomas COON, Jr. was born 1723 Bound Brook, Somerset Co., NJ, and died 14 Aug 1785 Bernards Town, Somerset Co., NJ, and is buried in the Bound Brook Cemetery, Bound Brook, Somerset Co., NJ. Thomas married Hannah (last name unknown) and they had the following nine children: Joseph, Catherine, Azariah, Israel, Aaron, John, Hannah, Lydia, William, all born between 1744 and 1764. John COON (son of Thomas COON, Jr.), born abt 1748, married Mary COZAD abt 1766. Unfortunately, I have no descendants for John and Mary.
I show Mary COZAD married 2nd to Benjamin CUTLER.
Following is a line of descendancy to Mary COZAD: Jacques (Cossart, Cozart), Cozad, (1639-1685), Holland to Germany 1657; returned to Holland 1659; came from Holland in the "De Pumerlander Kerck" to New Amsterdam 1662; m 1656, Lydia Willems (or Lee Willman): The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VI, 1937, page 268; Jacques9 (Cossart, Cozart), Cozad, (1640-1683), from France, 1662, settled in Dutch colony of New Amsterdam; m 1656, Lydia Williams: The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VII, 1942, page 633; Jacques9, m Lydia Willems: The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VII, 1942, page 519 Anthony8 (b 1673), Brooklyn, N.Y.; m 1696, Elizabeth Valentine (Jan Tymerson9, Schenectady, N.Y.): The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VI, 1937, page 268 Anthony8 (b1673), of Brooklyn NY; wrote name Cozart; m 1696, Elizabeth Valentine (Jan Tymensen9, Schenectady, N.Y.): The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VII, 1942, page 633; Anth.8 m Elizabeth Tymensen Valentine: The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VII, 1942, page 519; Jacob7 (1701-72), Bound Brook, N.J.; m Annah Cox (Philip8, [1677-1785, aet. 108], of N.J., m Hannah, dau. Morris, N.J.; preempted 1,000 acres on Cheat River, VA., 1770; removed to Mt. Olive, N.J.; m 1st, Elizabeth Sutton: The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VI, 1937, page 268 Mary COZAD5 (1756-1811), as widow of John Coon, m 2d, Benjamin CUTLER (d 1814), of Mohawk River, N.Y., Clarksburg, VA, Fairfield, O., and Washington, Ind: The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VI, 1937, page 268 You can see from the above that Thomas COON, Jr. and Jacob COZAD were both of Bound Brook, NJ, and therefore very likely the friends you mention above. Thomas COON's son, John, married Jacob COZAD's daughter, Mary (could this be Mercy?)
